Hi,

I got a question and maybe you can help me out.

May there be two warriors one in def-stance with defiance and one in combat-stance with/without salvation.

the warrior in def stance is spamming sunder armor (highest rank) every 1.5seconds and has white 90dps.

how much raw white dps (or slam-dps) does the combat warrior need to generate the same threat?

Warrior A got +30% theat bonus (stance) and +15% threat bonus (defiance)
Warrior B got -20% threat malus (stance)

Sunder Armor generates 260 raw threat (without stance modifier)

Assuming to Patch 1.12 threat modifiers are now multiplied, so its must be 1.3*1.15=1.495.

One Sunder every 1.5 seconds means 173,3 raw threat per second.

If i understood kenco correctly 1 raw threat point equals to 1 unmodified damagepoint, right?

so its must be:

90*1.495+173,3*1.495=x*0.8
x=(90*1.495+173,3*1.495)/0.8
x=(134.55+259.13)/0.8
x=393.68/0.8
x=492.1

So the Combat warrior needs 492.1 dps for equal threat. if he wants to pull aggro he needs 110% threat so multiplier of 1.1 which means that he will pull aggro if he does more that 541.31 dps.

if the warrior has salvation the threat modifier for the combat warrior will be 0.8*0.7=0.56 so the combat warrior will need...
x=393.68/0.56
x=703

...703dps to equal threat and 773.3 dps if he wants to pull aggro.

Well lets take a look at a full 6 second rotation assuming a bossfight with enough rage. The prot-warrior can use 4 actions in 6 seconds. Shield-Slam, Revenge, Sunder Armor, Sunder Armor.

Lets see what we got:
90 white dps * 6 = 540 raw white damge threat
1 shield slam = 250 raw threat and assuming to average tanking gear including 10%crit rate minus mob absorbtion ~400 raw damage threat
1 revenge = 355 raw threat and ~70 damage threat
2 sunder = 520 raw threat

(540+250+400+355+70+520)*1.495=x*0.8
2135*1.495=x*0.8
3191.83/6seconds=x*0.8
532=x*0.8
x=665

Using Revenge and Shieldslam raised the raw threat per second by ~140 points from 393.68 up to 532.

Without salvation combat-warrior will need 665dps to equal threat and 731.5 dps to gain aggro.
With salvation combat-warrior will need 950dps to equal threat and 1045dps to gain aggro.

To clean things up a bit...

If a warrior only uses Sunder Armor to hold aggro and has 90 white dps he generates

263 unmodfied threat per second

If he uses Shield Slam, Revenge, Sunder Armor, Sunder Armor in a 6 second rotation he generates

355 unmodified threat per second

If a warrior holds a weapon with 1.5 second speed and uses Heroic Strike IX only to hold aggro he generates

~290* unmodified threat per second

If a warrior holds a weapon with 3.0 second speed and uses Heroic Strike IX only to hold aggro he generates

~190** unmodified threat per second

If a warrior is a fast-clicker and got all the rage to do this he could (in theory) use heroic strike + the 6 second rotation generating

645 unmodified threat per second


* 175 raw threat and ~260damage (90*1.5+157-absorb) threat in 1.5 seconds = ~290
** 175 raw threat and ~400damage (90*3+157-absorb) threat in 3 seconds = ~190

Another thing that might be interesting.

Whats with Sunder Armor vs. Heroic?

Sunder Armor has 260 threat, Heroic has 175 threat and xxx damage.
How much damage is needed to equal that?

Well thats a tricky one, it depends on weapon speed and dps awell as mob-absorb. If your weapon has the same speed as sunder armor (1.5seconds) your heroic strike damage must be 85damage higher than your white damage to equal the threat.

260+white damage=175+heroic damage

The bonus damage from heroic is 157. the mob should not have an absorb rate >45% or you won't reach that. the funny part is to lower the absorbtion you need to sunder it anyway ;)

As you can see its hard to get the threat sunder armor does with heroic and it even becomes harder to impossible with slow 1handed weapons. The faster the weapon, the better.
