Knowing the fight, and putting forth *effort* into being a rogue will get you pretty damn far. There's also things as simple as being the MA on trash means you should be leading meters.
Know also that being a good rogue isn't always about topping meters. If you're also pulling aggro on every trash mob, or requiring 50% more heals than the guy juuuuuuuust barely below you, I'd argue the other guy is actually the better rogue.
So, know the class, but also know your tanks, healers, the fight you're on, and your raids capacity.
To try and more directly answer your question: there are no "HOW TO" guides for being a good rogue. Gamblor had a great quote that was my sig for a while for these boards... something to the effect of: It's pretty simple to play a rogue, but so many people are so bad at it. All it takes, IMO is an attention span longer than that of a goldfish, a desire to perform, a willingness to listen to criticism, knowledge of the thresholds of the people you're playing with, etc etc. So yeah, there are lots of things many rogues miss. If you miss less of them, and put in equivalent/more effort, you'll be a better player.
