It seems every time the topic of lvl 70 content comes up, at least in our guild, there's always people saying don't worry about it, we'll be leveling for a while anyways. Even on these boards I've seen it. My question is, will it really take a while to level? It seems to me that it won't. In reality, unless people in hardcore guilds spend their first week leveling a blood elf mage, they will be leveling. And the most exp I've seen rumored as needed is the same as 1-60, and most often it's 2x the time from 50 to 60. For a hardcore player, leveling an alt to 60 takes no time. 3 weeks, maybe a month. I don't really think it will even take that long, in fact I'd be surprised if the majority of hardcore guilds weren't 70 inside of 3 weeks. And really, how many of you are already planning to take a few days off of work for release..
Now for an expansion that is supposed to last us a year, maybe more, 3 weeks is nothing. So there really won't be a 'leveling period' for people like us, and having the end game completed, balanced, and ready on release is necessary. That whole discussion on how your epic gear won't be replaced until you start raiding in the expansion, and will still help you level, really means it will be replaced inside of 3 weeks. All those green quest rewards, will be stuff we wear for a few days. All those epic lvl 70 items, are things that are going to start coming into the world in the first month.
I just think he people are greatly overstating the leveling period, and unless you're really casual or your plan is to reroll, you'll be maxed level in no time.

Let's say you reached level 70 after a day.
So what? You've still got a zergload of instances to go through and they will continue to add more content as time goes on...
Hitting level 70 is going to be as big a part of TBC as reaching 60 is with normal WoW.

How about you enjoy the quests and instances during the "grind" to level 70? Everyone shoudln't be in such a hurry to just blow past content.

Theorycraft at its finest.
I plan to enjoy the journey. If rest experience is unchanged You will probably be able to hit 70 in 7-8 weeks and stay in perma rest the whole time while questing and that seems a reasonable timeframe. I like 5 mans, I like exploring relativily unknown dungeons and I enjoy doing quests. Sure I enjoy raiding as well but why ignore one just so I can get to the other a month quicker.
As for leveling speed I beleive I saw a post by blue that they were still adjusting it to suit the content available.

I could not agree more.
I hated all my mates emailing me levelling guides because they noticed after two days my alt only went from 51 to 53. I like to enjoy the game and what it has to offer. Once my Orc hit lvl 60, it made sense the Tauren levels in different places, ie: instead of STV head to Tanaris, instead of Arathi...head to Desolance.
I think you miss out on so many nice quirks the designers left for us to find, I also like levelling my Blacksmithing, cooking, fishing to 300 and I don't really want to see the game as a grind competition.
To be honest...it will take some time for everyone of your friends to hit lvl 70 at once anyway, so why not all of you lvl together and take it slow.

Personally, I plan on forming a 5-man permagroup and spending the majority of my time leveling in instances. Mal'Ganis is a high-pop PvP server with plenty of raiding guilds, so it's a pretty safe bet that the outdoor zones of Outland are going to be completely swarmed right after BC's release. Attempting to level there will be a particularly slow process. Staying in instances will allow us to avoid that clusterfuck and hopefully give each of us a solid feel for the new abilities/talents in a group setting.

What I'm wondering is if semi-hardcore raiding guilds who are now working on C'thun or the start of Naxxramas are going to continue raiding those places after the expansion comes out. Heh. Probably would even have a hard time getting a full raid for those places the last week before expansion unless the guild is on Sapphiron/Kel'thuzad.

Not likely, the day BC comes out everyone is gonna be rushing for the new content. I mean Naxx is the bomb and people MIGHT go back to it if there's 40 bored players around, but that new content is too sexy to pass up. How many people do you think are just gonna run to the level 70 areas at 60 just to see it heh.

Well I was just talking with a druid today about it. Thing is, on my server, no guild is on track to killing Kel'thuzad before the expansion, so there wouldn't be a completed staff for that portal. I haven't looked at the whole story line/lore, but wouldn't we need the legendary staff down the road [for Karazhan] on our server at least?

The staff simply teleports you to the Kharazan entrance. It has nothing to do with actually entering the instance.
P.S. fill out your profile before Kaubel eats you.

Blizzard kinda sold out. Originally it was supposed to require the Book of Medivh and the Warlocks on your server to come together to open it, but they've pretty much dumbed down the portal opening to "Oh well Kazzak got some magic runes and opened it, now go and explore!"
After seeing some of the asshatery of giving players power to do such things(Holding the gate hostage, switching servers to open gates on a server behind progress, etc) they've decided to backpedal and take it out of our hands.

I bet that even with all the new content to explore there are quite a lot of people that will fast grind to 70 just to be "world first" here and there.

Eh, I will level quickly.
There's nothing that fustrates me more than to hear about and see all the really niffty things I could be doing- if only I were a few levels higher. I don't liek being left behind on instance runs or even jsut having the option to explore the entire world because of level. If I coudl insta level to 70 when TBC came out- I would probalby do it for one of my characters.
Now- once I've leveled one quickly- I'll take the slower meandering path and enjoy the quests and the sunshine with one of my alts. I loved questing to 60 on my warlock- I saw a lot that I missed on my priest. that said- I certainly didn't regret gatting to 60 quickly on my priest and being able to raid and instance with her while I worked on my warlock.
I will see all the content there is to see eventually... getting to the end quickly gives me the very real option to see it whenever I want to see it, rather than waiting on slower leveling.
I'm the kind of girl who reads the end of books about halfwya through- just to make sure everything turned out okay.

Those of you who volunteered to be injected with praying mantis DNA, I've got some good news and some bad news.
Bad news is we're postponing those tests indefinitely. Good news is we've got a much better test for you: fighting an army of mantis men.
Pick up a rifle and follow the yellow line. You'll know when the test starts.

i think the guilds that farm naxx, bwl and aq will have the first lvl 70 chars. way to many xp in there.

I predict level 70's by 5-6 days after BC release, assuming they don't ridiculously ramp up exp needed for levels after 60 and the servers aren't down 24/7. That said, I will be trying to level quickly as well so I can be that much closer to raiding the new raids. :)

That said you're not really missing anything. I take months off from the game and each time I log back in the same instances are there, same guilds, same mates in the same chat chnl.
Unless you're worried about loosing a few PvP ranks, you can really continue on right where you left off.
So unless you have some goal to be the first person in the new 25 man raids...it will not matter if you go in during December, or March.

Will try to lvl as fast as possible for my main (without boring mob grind though, quest grinding ftw). Then take the slow way on an alt later.
Still hope it will take at least 1-2 weeks.

I might start leveling a Blood Elf, letting my rested time go up, then go back to my Priest and mooch off the rested, go back, etc. Twinking out my Pally will make leveling easier (My main took 18 in-game days to level, my Hunter 14, my Warrior 10 with each getting twinkier and twinkier as time and my cash supply increased).

#1 You don't get experience in a raid group other than your rested xp.
#2 I think it has been stated that you will only be able to get xp in the outlands. (not 100% sure about that though)
/e: Personally I'm considering rerolling BE mage. It depends on how the new items turn out. If you can replace most of your Naxx gear until level 65 or so with blues I'll probably reroll, if you can wear it until level 70 and then some I'll probably stick to my undead.
I'm kind of 'afraid' of the Outlands though, it's gonna be one massive gankparty once it becomes available. :|

Well, I personally hope to get a lot of outdoor pvp during my grinding to level 70. I'd also hope to see battlegrounds dying but that's truly another matter. Outland will be a nice sight to see I guess, I will take my time to level and to discover the content.
But of course, most guilds will break up or think about their player base when TBC is released. I wouldn't wanna make a level 70 so slow that I lose my "25-man" spot

sadly given the mess that was wow forums the last 3 weeks and previous history with major patches and releases, I predict the servers will be pretty much dying non-stop for the first week (anyone remember release? jan last year?).
Blizzard has a great product but terrible, terrible scaling architecture. They shoulda hired some google pros or something.
Given all the profs I'll probably level my main to 70 fast and then slowly enjoy a BE or Draeni alt to sightsee. I'll want a herb/alchy, a miner/jewelcrafter, and an enchanter/tailor. maybe a engineer/skinner. lol @ blacksmithing and leathercrafting, still :(
