And, well, to be honest, since Arcane has pretty much not been that great a tree, I don't know many mages who've made the effort to get this trinket over, say, rogues or hunters who seem more interested in it. But, perhaps, my guild and the few other mages I regularly talked to are unusual?

True. But still, that trinket has to be the best way to increase your AoE damage out of any trinket available, that alone should have some merit.
But I was thinking, with arcane power and the ZG trinket, at the sacrifice of DPM, could not arcane mages have the highest burst DPS?
Also, might be note worthy to mention with the 30% crit chance while in clear casting, seems like a nice time to pop the ZG trinket. I mean, just imagine the kind of damage Empowered Arcane Missile would be doing with at least 40% crit chance. (5% base, 30% from clear casting talent, 5% from ZG trinket). Follow that up with using your Arcane Power and then maybe a Presence of Mind Pyroblast... I am thinking arcane/fire mages could do some heavy damage for 40ish seconds? every 3 minutes?
Might be something useful for another Huhuran type fight.
