I've got some guildies telling me I'm outright making up the fact that you get an aggro reduction bonus for staying at range, and so naturally I started searching here and other places for the parses and data of yesteryear proving me right.

But I can't find it, anyone got a link handy? Parsed data from experimentation would be ideal (I remember someone spent a lot of time in Hearthglen deducing all this as well as how +defense worked) but I'll settle for anything really, just need something like an aggro mechanics thread or what not.

Oh or you could all overwhelmingly spam this thread with "yes it's true", I suppose.

Yes, it's true.

That is the combat mechanics thread. Ranged peeps have a 30% aggro threshold, which means they can overaggro the tank by 129% safely.

If you want proof, you can easily let a warrior hit autoattack a mob for a little bit and see how many damage you do before pulling aggro off him, or just believe people that have already done it.

You don't get any aggro reduction, it just requires more aggro to pull.

In melee range it takes 110% of the current targets aggro for the mob to switch, at range, you need 130%, you could represent that as range generating ~76% aggro I suppose, but it wouldn't be accurate since if they DO pull aggro, the threshold to pull it back is based on their full aggro ammount (ie: tank has 100 hate, range can go up to 129 hate without pulling aggro, once they get 130 hate mob goes charging off, tank would have to run over and get 130*1.1 = 143 aggro to take it back).

Right, just poor choice of words on my part. It's just that this argument came up with regards to things like Noth, that clear their aggro. Needless to say that having a higher aggro ceiling at a time like this is really the same thing as an aggro reduction, you can get away with doing more damage than someone at melee range.

Edit: Thanks for the wow-wiki link, I had completely forgetton about that site.

The links provided pretty much cover this. Not much else to say.
