Does this ring procs off of hellfire? Assuming it does, is the chance to proc off of a)the initial cast, b) off of each tick, or c) off of each tick as it hits each mob.

Your main char is a lvl 5 shaman? Now there's a level of honesty not often found.

I don't believe it procs off AoE effects. I could be wrong, but that's what the few people I know who bothered getting it passed along.

I'm about to hit exalted with CC and am considering grinding the badges necessary for Wrath of Cenarius. Comments on proc rate, effectiveness, whether or not you like a certain flavor of jelly beans would be appreciated because that's a lot of silithus bullshark to deal with if it's unreliable and bad.

We've got a warlock in our guild who snagged this very rapidly. He dismisses it as a PoS because of an ultra low proc rate, he guesstimates it at a 5% or lower.

If(very big if at that) it proced off ae effects, it would probably only proc off the initial cast like clearcasting procs off blizzard. I haven't bothered getting the ring on my mage yet, but I'm actually curious if AE effects proc it too.

While thottbot.com has many poor/incorrect comments on items, there are a few gems there. I am sure someone has done a parse of the effects of the ring and posted it there.

I recall reading that for sustained dps, the ring has is between 25-30 spell damage, since the proc is so low.

Even with 5% if this is a chance to proc per mob hit per tick then it should give a pretty good proc rate with enough mobs in the aoe. Even divided over the whole hellfire 132 is 2-3 damage per tick per mob for 10 seconds, that would rack up. Something conclusive about its aoe proc rate would be appreciated.

Consider the 5% proc rate verified ;)

This is what is called for the proc... notice a few other things on that list: ZHC, ToA, the Darkmoon Cards, etc. Presumably it follows the same rules that they do, 1 chance per spellcast.

Unless it has been changed recently the ring has a chance to proc off once per hit. So it's only really good for aoe'ing. Think of it like the skeram staff proc. Pretty bad for single target because of the low procrate. (I do not have the ring but this is what i've heard)

Originally, the ring had a 5% chance to proc off each target in an AoE AND off DoT ticks, making it the most powerful ring in the entire game. Then Blizzard nerfed it so it only procced off once per spellcast, but kept the proc-rate the same. So now it is terribly underpowered.

Don't bother.

To answer the original poster, I believe the ring procs off of each wave (?) of Hellfire. I'm not a warlock, but my best buddy is and he has the WoC. He uses it for the supression room, and it procs nearly every pull. I'm pretty sure he's using Hellfire there. Whatever AE he's using, that's what causes it to proc.

The ring doesn't really proc for me in the Supression room, where I primarily use Blizzard. It does, however, proc all the time when I use arcane explosion. I use it to farm crocs in ZG, and it goes off after every 1-2 casts of Arcane Explosion when you have 9 targets chasing you.
