Hey.

My guild has currently downed 7 bosses in Nax. During progress nights (new bosses etc) we usually have high spirits, great conversations on vent, all of that stuff (I remember a guy offering to post a pic of himself naked on our forums if we managed to get Patchwerk the next try... we did ;)). Somehow, during 80% or more of our Farmraids, the whole guild gets cranky and we manage to somehow sit and whipe at Anub'rhekan för 3 hours (among many other things).

So, I've got a question for all the "forum refugees" (I know the titles were changed :P); What do your guilds / officers do once you notice a raid starts getting out of hand (insulting, meaningless deaths, etc)? Something to bring back the fun of raiding or something like that...

Hoping for some positive responses

Keep the chatter high - people involved with the game in some form (in this case, typing/talking) will be paying more attention then people watching TV. If you wipe to something on farm status, know why you wiped to it, make sure it doesn't happen again, and kill it. Just because you've been killing something for weeks doesn't mean that you can't improve on your strategy, nor does it mean that you can just go through the motions and expect loot to drop at the end.

You'll notice that farm nights you can often wipe more than on "wipe nights" due to a lack of focus - when its go time, make sure people are awake. We wipe more on grobb than thaddius on an average week, so go figure.

Normally, pre-raid (while we are zoning in, doing groups etc) I tend to joke around up until the first boss, once we normally hit whomever we decide to do first, I change the whole tone of the raid, and make sure vent is quiet, and everyone is paying attention. This normally gets the "chatter" out.

Also, i'm a HUGE fan of -dkp for missing ready checks, and before boss pulls I always do a ready check (obviously). Pay attention to raid status (mana/hp levels, offline etc.) so you arent just doing dozens of ready checks which seem to piss people off.

Bosses aint on farm modus after the first time you kill em and it often requires as much planning and focus the 2-6 kills after. The raidleader needs to keep the momentum and keep everyone focused by making sure they are doing their job. If you have laughed your way through the trash, make sure that everyone is serious again when you reach the boss - dont wipe once to find out.

edit: just realized this was sarcasm, sarcasm doesn't show in posts very well.

The "Farm status wiping" in Naxx is a leftover of what "farm status" meant in Molten Bore; unless you had lots of new people or terrible composition (warlocks for garr), over half the raid could slack off and still manage a 1 night clear of MC.

It needs to be stressed that Naxx bosses aren't going to be on 'farm' until Burning Crusade. The damage outputs are almost as high as the penalties for someone dying in most fights (Anub for example) I'd like to think killing a boss would be enough positive reinforcement for people to pay attention and do the same thing they did last week, but sometimes it isn't. Adding a penalty for missing a ready check (unannounced) may seem harsh, but it may also be necessary. My guild replaces people who repeatedly fail at a given task, it works well enough to keep people trying.

And 'Trash' is anything but. It may not take as long to learn the Gauntlet or Acolytes or Duo Gargoyles as it does the bosses after them, but AoE + Multiple Mobs + Time Limit = more wipes than boss fights if you treat it as trash.

This can be a pretty complex issue related to how you handle your raids in general. To start, you should check out the "raid leading techniques" thread (linked in the sticky, I think).

All raid leaders are thoroughly familiar with the feeling that people aren't performing as well as they can be. If you know that your raid isn't getting hung up on strategic issues, you just have to play "coach" a bit.

I try and keep people intertained somewhat, last raid i tried baking a cake on my bbq

Also, class channels can really help. Good place to burn on steam, and talk of possible epics =)

CHatter is pretty important for farm nights, probably does more than anything else.

In my guild at least, the more offensive and crude you can be over vent the better mood everyone seems to get into- and even if peope are whispering/laughing in party in response to it. Lots of jokes and reading webpages or telling stories about some stupid shit you did.

Just stuff I've found that tends to help us- and even when we're wiping people are usually laughing so they get over it.

Aye, Like everyone has said Chatter is important and the only way you can create it is by starting it.

Our vent gets pretty hillarious sometimes and those are the best raids. Even if we wipe we get over it, when a new boss comes around everyone focuses even if just before we were laughing about someone talking about their retardedness. ;p

Same here, we wipe on farm stuff because everyone's screwing around on vent. I try to get it going to keep people entertained, but as you're sorting your boss groups/healing assignments/etc you have to make sure everyone settles down and focuses, or you're going to wipe a lot :/

You should realize that we're just making fun of the fact that he's signing his posts, despite the fact that his name is right next to his post, and it was made perfectly clear he would be made fun of if he did it.

I wonder if there was any useful information in this thread, which I found by going to this thread.
