After a bit of consideration, I think a shadowpriest actually shares the 'group mana battery' role with resto-shamans now that manatide has been buffed. It wouldn't be hard to construct 2 caster groups in the xpac, and throw one in each, or on a really healer intensive fight, both in the same group.
Max Mana Regen Theorycraft.
Assuming a healer group of Resto-Shaman, ShadowPriest and any 3 primary healers. Assume for the sake of simplicity that the primary healers have 10k mana raid buffed and the Shadowpriest does 700dps.
- Imp Blessing of Wisdom (there's going to be a pally somewhere in the raid)
Talented rank 7 = 49mana/5 = 588 mana/min
- Vampiric Touch @ 700 dps
35mana/sec = 2100mana/min
- Imp Mana Spring Totem
Talented rank 5 = 15mana/2sec = 450/min
- Manatide (The practice of dropping it early probably shortens the effective use on a fight to more like a 4 min recharge. But I'll go with the stated amount for simplicity)
24% every 5 mins. Our casters have 10k mana, so 2400 mana/5 min or 480 mana/min.
Grand Total = 3618 mana/min.
VT is clearly very strong, that said, its not a passive buff like all the others. If anything stops the priest from being able to deal damage, then its usefulness drops to zero. A resto shaman does almost 50% of that regen just by dropping water totems and doing nothing else.
