Ok, I've heard all kinds of great things about PerfectTargets and want to try it, but don't know anything about Ace (I don't use any other Ace mods yet, but will probably get ag_unitframes, since I can't possibly justify 10MB for DUF).

I downloaded PerfectTargets. Didn't load. Discovered I needed Supply and Demand.
Downloaded Supply and Demand. Errored on load. Needed "Dewdrop" and "Tablet."
Got those. Errored on load.

Around this point, I thought to myself that I didn't think is was how Ace2 mods were supposed to work. So what am I missing here?

The SVN script is a bit buggy, and sometimes "forgets" to include libraries, which appears to be the case for Supply and Demand. You can install http://www.wowace.com/files/!!!Libs/!!!Libs-r13452.zip to ensure you have everything, but it's a bit of a hack and uses 2-3 megs of memory.

When it's working correctly, all you need is the addon (and SnD for Tekkub's stuff).

Ok, thanks.

So normally, I should never have to worry about libraries with Ace mods?

That might explain why my friend, who already uses FuBar, had no trouble--he must have already had the libraries loaded.

Ace2 is (at the moment? for lifespan?) using embedded libraries. Ideally, every Ace2 addon comes with their own libraries (SVN should handle that naturally, addon site packages will sidestep this issue). This makes them bigger downloads individually, and on the harddrive, but once, let's say, CandyBar library version 2.5 is loaded by BigWigs, the version queued up to load for RogueCandy (let's say) won't be loaded (since they're the same). Note: Not sure as to how factual those names are, it's an example.

Yes, normally all I do is click on PerfectTargets-r12345.zip, unzip, and go, exactly like any other addon.

The major difference would be that there's (normally) no [ ] Ace2 Libraries "addon" to disable, auto-disabling all your Ace2 addons.

Edit:

To explain further:

\Addons\
\Addons\BigWigs\
\Addons\BigWigs\CandyBar\
\Addons\BigWigs\DewDrop\
\Addons\RogueCandy\
\Addons\RogueCandy\CandyBar\

Instead of
\Addons\
\Addons\Ace2 (CandyBar, DewDrop, Eccet)\
\Addons\BigWigs\
\Addons\RogueCandy\

Grab WinAceUpdater from the links on their wiki.

Check a box, it does the rest. It's easier than SVN was.

Don't get me wrong - ace mods are great, but community is very chaotic.

You noticed that too!
I heard about Detox and thought I should check it out but finding it was near impossible (when I looked).

I like the idea of the shared libraries only loading once and the overall mentality of the authors to be as efficient as possible but apparently they may take the efficiency too far ;)

Also, to re-iterate something that was pointed out yesterday, the wowace site doesn't want people that are not mod developers using the svn. Feel free to download the zips or use wowaceupdater instead. I grabbed the updater last night and it worked like a charm. I highly recommend it.

It's way more developer-centric than client-centric. If you're a developer, their community makes quite a bit more sense. Not to be an apologist, just trying to put a method to the madness. Comes across rather obviously if you look at the number of forums, and what the content split is. "Ace dev, ace dev, ace dev, users, ace dev, ace dev, ace dev, users,"

You need .NET 2.0 or 3.0, try WindowsUpdate or http://msdn.microsoft.com/netframework
