Just wanted to make a central thread for various TBC item links/discussions, since the existing ones seem to be focused on specific segments/aspects of the itemization. if you have any screenshots and such of TBC items, post them here!

of course, this thread is not without its alterior motive - i'm actually looking for TBC items to put into future WoW TCG sets since i've been mostly paying attention to quests while i've actually been playing the alpha :-P i know there's lots of cool items out there (especially ones with cool abilities/graphics), and i want to know which ones have caught peoples' eye...like the sweeping strikes polearm quest reward in nagrand that i cannot, for the life of me, remember the name of :(

thottbot beta is woefully sparse on its information. :-P i've seen lots of screenshots of things (and seen items myself in game) that aren't listed on there. i know lots of people come across items that are really cool, and i figured having a central location to look at them/discuss them would be valuable.

Hahahahahahahhahahahahahaha, oh man I can just imagine the RIGHTEOUS NERD RAGE that it's not the same as on the show now.

That weapon doesn't follow known budgets at all, does it? It's 26 ilvls higher than Gressil but only 15 more DPS. By comparison, going from CTS (lvl77) to Gressil (lv89) got you 15 additional DPS.

I don't think Thottbot has the item levels correct, I believe it's still calculating the ilvl with the old stamina formula so items with a lot of stamina are showing up as much higher in ilvl than they should.

wow, socketed necks for pvp rewards? that's very cool.

i like the powerful gems as rewards, too. it's the sort of thing you can get value out of again and again, rather than stuff like the TUF that you buy once and you're done with it. it's the repeat purchase model TCGs and MMOs thrive on :-P

I believe this item used to be considerably more powerful, but was toned down in the past week or so. Perhaps leaving the ilvl unchanged was an oversight as its stats were adjusted.

No, I understand that. I am pointing to it as evidence of something on a broader scale that has changed with ilvl and what ilvl means in the expansion. An 88 DPS 1h melee weapon is something you'd expect to see as an ilvl 101 or 102 epic, not 115 -- I recognize there are many such examples in the expansion, but that doesn't change the fact that those examples are at odds with how things work presently.

I don't think thottbot 'calculates' itemlevel, I think it uses the value from datamined MPQs.

Rather, the value exists and matches thottbot's data for live, so I can't imagine that they'd shift gears at this point.

No, the ilvl is an innate property of the weapon like its DPS, Required Level to equip, BoP/BoE status, and so forth. It's parsed directly out of the cache and there are mods to make it display on in-game tooltips. That isn't Thott extrapolating from the stats to assume it must be ilvl 115. It IS ilvl 115.

The iLevel does in fact exist in the itemcache.wdb, and I suspect that's where Thottbot gets theirs from.

Thottbot doesn't calculate iLvls. It gets them straight out of the WDB files and they are now acessible in game for addons as well.

According to Hyzenthlei's formulae, an 88 DPS 1H weapon should be ilvl 98.

So either they killed some DPS on it for other stats (unlikely), they fudged the item, or ilvl relates to weapons differently.

Or the move to reduce burst damage could be two-front: increase hitpoints across the board, and decrease damage available to PCs. Reducing the way weapon DPS scales with ilvl is a graceful way to accomplish that. Do we have any other examples we can pull out and cite?
