We are giving splinters to the oldest, crankiest mage we've got. If he's not there, we give them to the warlock with the most fashion sense

we just bid dkp on it. in the end, it won't matter. it was clear that nax was the last instance pre expansion and i did not expect atiesh to compete vs lvl 70 epics from raid instances. so imho its a nice toy, but not more. first one will go to a warlock, atm a druid is collecting and after that ... we prolly won't go to nax often enough to get another set.

But it's Medivh's staff, man. How can you not want that? Staff of the guardian, most powerful mage in the world. He died as all mages should, ganked during downtime. A good death.
In an on-topic note, our splinters went to one of the veteran officers (the around since day one, everything for the guild-kinda people), by public vote. He did have to pay DKP for it, though. Around twice that of a Wraith Blade, most expensive item to date, so it was quite expensive. I believe he's only just now starting to get outa negative points. Priest.
But, seriously, this staff should always go to mages, because mages are badass and that kinda stuff. Besides, 2% crit will scale better than 33 damage in TBC, and who knows what kinda mischief a warlock could do with the ability to create portals instead of summoning circles.

50 DKP for the staff earns the rights to 40 shards in a row. Most Naxx staffs are normally something like 25 DKP.

2% crit won't necessarily scale better, since at level 70, its going to be 1.27% crit. Even at 1k spell damage, 33 spell damage is better :|

In retrospect, our decision to give the first staff to a Druid (me :) ) was a decent decision due to the way crit is changed in TBC. Our reasoning at the time was mainly that mana is always useful to a greater percentage of classes, whereas dmg/healing depends more on stacking groups.
Having said this it is unlikely we will get more than one (if that) assuming that TBC will make Naxxramas obsolete pretty quickly and we are as yet only half-way through the bosses.

Our first staff was a guild vote of a list of those interested in the staff with high attendance. Went to a druid who has all 40 splinters. The 2nd was DKP / attendance based which ended up going to me. 22 down.

First (and our only...) Atiesh splinter went ofc to me ;)
We had a short chat about it in officer chat and decided to make it an open bid, not that it'd made any difference, as I was in a DKP-lead of all atiesh-classes and said that I'd take it. Only other real contender was a druid who would also have been a worthy choice. The problem is, that I and atleast our officers knew that we'd have 0% change to collect the staff pre TBC, and I'm pretty sure that it's <1% change that I ever get it done. I also know, that other Mage-loot is much better spent on our other cloth-wearers than me, as I'm already competing in top5 DPS in about every fight. I also let myself have it as a reward for taking over the actual leadership and raidleading in our guild during the summer and this autumn. I've spend lots of time and thought in wow due to that, and wanted to accomplish something myself also. Not that I'd actually hope to get it done, but atleast I have a non-zero change on having a legendary staff someday. Non-zero essentially meaning pretty much something like epsilon%, if you know what I mean.

Other auras (like druid's various efforts) have remained at a fixed percentage. I haven't seen an Atiesh on test yet, but I'd hope it follows the same rule.

Hmm, I saw some screenies of this Nihilum mage with an Atiesh who was exploring TBC. Sent him a private message now on the Nihilum boards and asked about the aura. You can find the screenies and more here.

our first wraith blade went for twice as much DKP as atiesh. most people realized what a burden it would also be, having to collect 40 splinters, being there on every single kill just in case another one dropped, so most people rather opted for instant loot gratification rather than having to wait months for it and potentially never seeing it completed to begin with (doubtful we will ever kill the 4h thanks to raid stacking).

While sorta lacking in guild spirit, you could always tag along with one of the guilds that have downed Kel for the drop (assuming you have one such guild on your realm).

We gave our first Atiesh to a priest, as we always give everything to priests and tanks, and nothing to dps. Even though Atiesh is clearly worse for a priest than a dozen other options. A healing priest.
Loot is decided by loot council, and via rotations, Legendaries via Loot Council QMing only. I was skipped as I am the GM, and it'd appear to be favoritism. The priest does have 100% raid attendance, so at least there is that. =)
She has 24 shards, we're on Thaddius now. Hopefully we drop KT before the xpack goes live.

Yes.
I was ruled ineligible by myself based on being the Guild Leader, and not wanting to promote "favoritism".
And I am bitter about it. Even though its my fault.
