Posted this on the priest beta forums, but I figured I'd ask here if anyone had heard anything about VT and the scaling...

Pasted as follows.

That should say it all. I'm seeing a nice scaling factor based on my +dmg gear going for shadowfiend. What I'd like to know is - is this intentional? Obviously, as holy you aren't getting this and that in my opinion is ok since holy priests are able to stack more mana/5 vs. what a shadow priest can (at the moment), so giving us a boost from the shadow fiend doesn't feel imbalanced.

I like how it is honestly, because a shadowfiend means a full mana bar for me every 5 minutes and adds a lot more strategy then watching potion cooldowns. It's nice. I just want to make sure it's working as intended.

Thanks.

+dmg in that screenshot is in the neighborhood of 700 shadow dmg, with misery and shadow weaving applied.

I was planning on testing this myself later today. My gut feeling is that this is an unintended effect. 2200 mana returned is too much.
To fine tune the dog's mana leech, you could let it be affected by talents (misery, weaving, etc) but not +dmg.

That is a pretty scary amount of mana returned. With your (+700 dmg) gear its what a 2.5 mana per damage ratio with Shadow Fiend. Priests just recieved their own personal innervate :)

And not a moment too soon!

I actually think it's a good chance it's intentional, but they didn't fully think it through. I could see them increasing the cooldown on it but not touching it's scalability, thus allowing us a way to regen giant amounts of mana in the heat of the moment. With the change to +healing, it may be their attempt to bridge the gap caused by us "more intelligently" healing and sucking up a bit more mana in the process.

The only problem is, as a healing priest I am and will be wearing a good amount of +heal, and no +dmg, so there's nothing to scale off of, except for whatever debuffs the shadow priest/warlock in my raid group has placed on the mob.

Other side effects could have even high healing priests swapping in +dmg gear to see more mana when they need it.

Hrm.

Is the shadow fiend classified as a demon, making it banishable or weak to a paladin's less used arsenal?

The last digit of Pi is delicious.
