I am an absolute profession freak, I love being able to do everything on my own (I have 4 60's with all the varying professions). However, my main (my rogue) has enchanting and leatherworking. Is leatherworking worth keeping come xpac? I see BoP trinkets like the Nightseye Panther in Jewelcrafting and I have been thinking of picking that up. Are their any BoP items made through leatherworking worthwhile for a T3 equipped rogue to keep? I see things like spell thread enchants in tailoring and don't want to drop LWing only to find out I just screwed myself on enchants or an amazing BoP item. Please help!

I think it may be too early to tell. Leatherworking as it is in beta right now, is a little less developed than some of the other professions. It remains to be seen whether it will get additional recipes though. There are now head and leg enchants that will be available through leatherworking, so it does seem like it has some value.

From what I've picked up through posts, in the current state of beta all professions feel largely unfinished after 350 or thereabouts, so for most professions the best items aren't known yet. The fact that the best items are most likely rare drops doesn't help much in that regard either.
In other words, don't panic just yet, Leatherworking might still get some things in it that make it worth taking, it's just not yet finished.

Indeed, i have had Leatherworking since day one of wow and not yet have i found it useful (except for making FrR gear and Cured Hides). And havent seen a thing from the expansion that makes me go "wow" i must keep my LW so i can get that/make that. There are some leg/head enchants with 5 mp/5.. some with 8 stamina.. nothing worthy of mentioning to a raiding fan.
Has anyone seen anything from the expansion that shows signs of making LW a worthwhile profession?

Meh, as it's been stated, LW is still in the works. You can scroll down to see some of the newer expansion recipes here: http://www.thottbot.com/beta?t=Leatherworking. But, i'm hoping given what we have seen regarding Blacksmithing epic plans, that LWers will be rejoicing in due time.

Are there any updates concerning this? I figured since people have hit 70 on beta and there have been a a few pushes, leatherworking and tailoring may have been looked at. I looked around some other threads but couldn't find any info so I figured I'd bump this.
I'm basically in the same spot as a few of the posters here, I'm going into TBC with a rogue and a priest (not sure which one's gonna be my main yet, but with the way the rogue class is shaping up its hard commit) and I'm working on deciding which professions to level up and get ready. I've seen the info on alchemy, enchanting, blacksmiting, etc.. but haven't found any info on the BoP LW and Tailoring stuff.

So far, beyond BoE 'make someone in guild spec into this' type items (of which there aren't many), there's a BoE series of LWing items that are called 'drums'. They require leatherworking, and give temporary buffs that increase runspeed, AP, +damage and +healing (depending which ones you use), with a set number of charges. Doesn't really seem worth it.

So the drums are BoE, but only usable by other leatherworkers?

The drums require LWing to use, the best one for PvP is the fear one (however it has a cast time).
Since the drums give decent buffs, encounters will be easier with them being used than not (so you need more consumables :( ).
Some of the crafted gear is quite nice, so it gives people that run the hard-core 5 mans (the only way to get some of the mats) something to sell to the causal player (another raider-causal relationship).

Just going to that thottbot link I noticed some cool things:
28 Slot Mining Bag
Armor Kits:
Vindicator's (8 defense)
Magister's (3 mp5)
Shadow (8 shadow resist)
Flame (8 fire resist)
Frost (8 frost resist)
Nature (8 nature resist)
Arcane (8 arcane resist)
Leg Enchants:
Cobrahide Leg Armor (40 AP 10 Crit Rating)
Clefthide Leg Armor (30 Stam 10 Agi)
Nethercobra Leg Armor (45 AP 12 Crit Rating)
Nethercleft Leg Armor (35 Stam 12 Agi)
Drums of War (60 AP 30 Spell Damage)
Drums of Restoration (60 AP 30 Spell Damage)
Drums of Speed (15% Speed Bonus)
Drums of War (increases attack and casting speed by 80)
Drums of Panic (cause 5 enemies in 5 yards to flee in terror for 2 seconds)
Riding Crop (Trinket: 10% mount speed with 25% on use)
There's a lot of high level stuff that takes Primal Nether or Nether Vortex too, but only the names and mats are there, the actual stats are undefined, so I'd say it's still in creation.

http://forums.elitistjerks.com/viewt...243197#p243197 lists a few of the leatherworking BoP stuff.
It looks like there are 3 items in each set (Chest/Bracers/Belt) with at least two for Dragonscale Leatherworking, one for Tribal and one for Elemental. Based on the ilvl, they appear comparable to Tier 1 BoP Blacksmithing items.

For at least 2 patches on beta, the specialty leatherworking traininers in azeroth would train you level 70 epic bop 3-peice armor set thats the same ilevel as the first teir armorsmithing ones. They are all really good. Dragonscale has the shaman and hunter versions, elemental has the rogue version, and tribal has the oomkin version. They also have a level 45 overpowered peice that will probably last you until 60 as well as a level 65 one. The epic bops currently dont get upgraded like the blacksmithing ones.
Edit: damn I take too long to type.

None of the LW BoE armor have any sockets. That means they're not viable, basically, since metagems have requirements based on number and types of gems socketed, meaning (for the most part) you need a large variety of sockets.

In live today you can respecialize. You have to drop LW and relevel it to do so though. I'm not sure about beta though as I have not leveled my professions at all either.
