I wouldn't schedule vacation around this date just yet. I feel bad for all the people that locked in on "end of Q4" and now have a week to...well...enjoy the holidays. Maybe it's not so bad after all.
If anyone is considering taking time off, I would advise the week of Jan. 22-26 instead. Planning time off around an MMO patch day, let alone full-scale release day is, as a rule, a horrible idea. Anyone who started out on the US servers Mal'Ganis, Archimonde, Khadgar, or Dalaran for WoW's release can attest to that.
Lothar was pretty bad too. I'm going to have to wait till closer to the release date. Found out today we're apparently migrating a bunch of databases sometime in january and wouldn't want to take the vacation at the same time.
Right now, there don't seem to be enough quests to warrent calling that (skipping Hellfire and going straight to zangar) a good idea. One of my guild mates claims to have done every quest so far, and he's 1/2 through 66 (with the old experience level), but I'm not sure what level they plan on starting blade's edge at, so that could be an explination. Also, they've been messing around with Terokkar quests, so that zone doesn't seem to be complete.
However, last patch they dramatically changed the experience needed to level. Going from 63 to 64, I went from about 530k I believe to about 715k experience needed to level. At the same time, the amount of experience gained from quests, and (I've heard, haven't tested it out) from instances went up. Instead of 6k-800k per quest, I've been getting a minimum of 10k with some (easy) quests over 12k. It seems they want a majority of your XP to come from questing, and if you skip hellfire, which is a ton of quests in itself, then you might have to grind a lot (and in effect taking longer) to level than you would be if you started out in the mess that is hellfire.
Finally, a date! I suppose they could still push it back, but probably not as likely when they've actually announced a firm day.
As to taking time off work, it might be fun, but I don't know... I kind of hoard my vacation days for actual *VACATIONS*. :) Spend 5 days on WoW, don't get to go travel. I miss college. January would've been the beginning of a semester, certainly a good time to get in some leveling before I got swamped in work.
I wonder how bad the race to 70 will be in terms of guildmate pressure though. :)

I was thinking about this today. On one hand I really want to enjoy the 10 levels, cause 1-60 was the most fun I've had on my druid (probably just a druid thing though), but on the other hand, there will always be that "new instance to do" feeling.
Inform your dealers and whores of my credit, and pour me a goddamned drink!
Beautiful. All the high school kids are back in school.
My sentiments exactly.
Do take note that most Australian schools and uni's are on summer holidays up until around the start of feburary.
This will probably only impact servers with a high Australian population such as Blackrock and Proudmoore.
Although the time difference between USA/AU will flatten out the "peak hours", I still anticipate mammoth queues for the first couple of weeks on these servers.

The dip that happens isn't a direct stock market reaction, it's caused by reduced productivity in the marketplace due to the vast number of people who are 'sick' the Monday after the Superbowl.

Simple curiousity. The relationship b/t the Super Monday Blues and the January 16th, 2007 Blues could be a good indicator of the pervasiveness of WoW.
The sheer difference in numbers between working Americans who watch the Superbowl vs. working Americans who play WoW is staggering. This won't even register as a blimp I'd imagine.
You could, however, examine the average change in GPA for college students at the beginning of the Winter Term and study the notable *plummet* that will occur.

Oh, I don't know, I imagine the Hindenburg had quite an effect on the stock market.
(In all seriousness, out of the 7 million people playing WoW probably not that many would take the day off from a full time job for a game.)
I just semi-accepted a new job. Let's hope I can arrange for some time off around the 16th ;)
Oh, don't be "that guy who took a week off right after he started." You'll never ever convince people you aren't a flake or a slacker. WoW will be here for a long time, it's not worth ruining your reputation at work.

True - I'd have to agree in this case. Luckily for me, I've been stocking up on vacation and everyone is telling me to take a long period off. <whistles> Just might coincide a bit with the middle and end of January?
Last year taking a week off at the end of January would have been a monty, but this year instead of spending two months at low-staffing while people take turns taking holidays, we're being forced to take the two weeks after Christmas and they'll shut the office down for that time. I'll probably try to get a week somewhere around March to make a final push to 70 when it looks like raiding is ready to resume.
The release being after most people have holidays, though, that's going to be great for one sector of the economy: power-leveling services.

One of the reasons I love being in the beta, I've taken my time, wandered around the zones, read all the quest texts, etc, etc. When release comes out I can just slam them out and not even read anything (assuming servers stay up of course and there are some ... PVP ... issues).
More interesting is I wonder when exactly they plan to put the 2.0 patch out? Assuming a minimal 2 weeks on PTRs, it looks like it'll come out 2nd or 3d week of Dec. Kinda good, kinda sucks - basically 40 man raiding is entering its final 3-5 weeks now for most guilds, I think with all the 2.0 changes its going to be very difficult to continue raiding especially knowing tBC is out just a few scant weeks later.
So can we expect an exotic card from you guys as a result of TBC intoxication? Maybe something along the lines of a neutral goblin arena master. Maybe 4 resources to put into play, 2 attack 3 health. Has a tap, destroy arena master ability, which puts a Lieutenant's Insignia trinket token into play that grants your hero +2 attack when striking with weapons. "He asked only that you bought one of their insgnias to him, in return, you'd fight in his arena against the greatest sadists the Oulands could offer". Or something like that.
A question - our guild killed loatheb last night for the first time, leaving only gothik and thaddius between us and the Four Horsemen. We have 10 weeks between now and the release of the Xpack, with AQ40 and Naxx being the only instances we raid, and we pretty much have a 7day/week raid ability. Is 4H an attainable goal in that time?
Grats on Loatheb :)
In terms of time, you're basically in the same position as us, except for Thaddius. It just depends on which boss is more important to your guild as a group - our guys were fired up about Thaddius, and by only ever attempting him late at night, we ended up getting him after a couple of nights' work. The problem with Thaddius is that if you've got a cluster of people whose connections just can't handle it no matter what, then he can end up chewing up your time and halting your progress if you focus on him. Of course if your guild is chomping at the bit to get to 4H, then forget Thaddius entirely and focus on clearing DK wing.
Also, I'm sure you've already considered this, but if you are really, really serious about getting 4H before Jan 16th, I would definitely think about dropping AQ. Even C'Thun gear is not going to be as valuable as a nights work on 4H.

Oh yeah. See my comments on this in my other thread.
Why are people doing farm content right now? To gear up for a zone you won't even have time to complete because you were so busy gearing up? If you can kill Loatheb, breathe your sigh of relief and just get the bosses down.
Amazon now estimates TBC as being shipped out on January 16 and delivered on January 17 (overnight shipping). Anyone have any experience with Amazon and preorders for similar items? If I want to pick up TBC on the 16th, should I cancel the order?
