I made a little graphic to demonstrate it.

Same for other available weapon types.

As it seems for now, all crafted weapons are bind on pickup, so you can't trade them. So you need to be a Master Hammersmith to get this one on your own. Kind of sad imo.

What exactly is your point here? It takes a large number of materials to craft epics?

the number of materials are ok, what i am talking about is that you can upgrade previous crafted items with materials from group and raid instances to make them even better.

There seem to be 1-2 items for every blacksmith profession.

What are droprates on the Primal Nether and Nether Vortex? That's what'll determine viability for these items.

The mats are pretty insane, but then it's ilevel 130 so...

Btw, is the ilevel formula used to determine that adjusted to TBC values?

I'd be glad to see some reward to taking certain professions on your main, even if it does make choosing tougher.

so how long would it take you to aquire the 20 nether vortex? Would your guild give them to you frst or the axesmith in your guild? Is it's ability on par with those weapons dropped by Kael'thalas?

In my opinion, as these items are bound to you, this is a nice option to have in the game: no other hammer in the game has a chance to increase your haste rating, and it will be a very rare mechanic (a new item with it hasn't been added since Kazzak's empyrean demolisher well over 16 months ago).

And guilds have plenty of forewarning that these items are in the game and so can prepare DKP accordingly.

Are the higher level materials BoP? Could be an interesting market for raiders to feed down epic crafting materials to casual blacksmiths.

Please note that this weapon is crafted within 3 different stages in the game. While it takes a metric asston of money/reagents to craft this weapon, you won't be able to craft the second stage of it until some arbitrary time determined by Blizzard, and then the same will dictate the third stage of the weapon, so while you need 12 hard mode drops and 2 primal mights to craft stage 2, your current weapon will still be damn good.

Unless Kaplan is lying about weapon scaling, which of course throws this out the window.

I think this is actually fair, while the weapon itself is still expensive to craft this doesn't really look like total overkill, and it seems you have a choice in the matter as to where you get your reagents (which is much better than the old method of running Scholo for Skins of Shadow woooo).

The chart you made also looks very decieving. Getting 10 Motes of Shadow, for example, is not very difficult. Getting 10 of them in Hellfire peninsula is of similar effort of grinding for any Essence, I cannot speak for the other motes however. Yes, it doesn't look like farming epics through tradeskills is going to be a walk in the park, but in my eyes this looks fair for top end epics.

Your chart is somewhat incomplete in that motes also come from other sources - fire from mining fel iron, earth from all kinds of mining, water from fishing, etc.

Where is your information on Nether Vortex from?

That said I'm not sure I see the point of this... except that these 3rd level BoP blacksmithed items will require raid drops to acquire, basically meaning they're virtually raid rewards and not exactly the same as traditional "crafted" items.

There's a post by Blizzard that the final upgrade of the various blacksmith items would not be available on release, or would require drops from a zone with a lockout timer.

New versions (tier 5 equivalents) will be introduced after the first season (and eventually tier 6, etc).

Still waiting on info from the other professions, if they'll be at the level of blacksmithing when it comes to the new BoP gear.

I heartily approve of the mechanism of raid drops rewarding crafters on a personal level instead of having retardedly rare recipies dropping only off of raid mobs.

Yes, I'm looking at you, Enchanting.

How many mobs drop essences (motes) again? Every single tradeskill item in game, whether leatherworking, blacksmithing, tailoring, ALL require TONS of essences.

If its like it is now and there's only one viable spot for farming stuff like air and water, this is gonna be gay as hell.

I'm operating under the assumption that those engineering gadgets (Mote Extractor, the goggles that let you see nether storm vortexes, etc) serve a purpose in aiding mote acquisition.

It looks like Nether Vortex would be a BoE tradegood, allowing raiding guilds to sell them to non-raiders in order to craft epic weaponry. Unless the raid instances aren't dropping decent weapons, that is what I'd figure. Overall, that seems like an awful lot of materials quantity wise. It looks like they're reducing/removing things like arcane crystals and other rare gems in order to make good weaponry.

Pretty neat system. You solo and gather mats and money to craft a Solid Weapon. You use Solid Weapon to complete 5 man runs until you can complete a Superior Weapon. You use Superior Weapon to progress through raid content until you can craft an Amazing Weapon.

Really hope they rethink this whole BoP epic weaponry though. Didn't we already see the fallout and disuse of such a system? I've got Alchemy(have every single recipe in the game currently) and Engineering. I suppose I could collect my motes then level up smithing... needs to be some other way.

What system? I certainly can't think of any worthwhile BoP weapons or armor (Dark Iron Plate maybe?) They are trying to make players pick and choose which professions best fit their character, and make reasons for there to be more than one Alchemist, Enchanter, Blacksmith, and Leatherworker per guild/group of friends.

btw, the Drakefist Hammer, the first one in that series of 3 you eventually upgrade? it's not exactly shitty:

http://thottbot.com/beta?i=8752

Drakefist Hammer
Binds when picked up
Unique
Main Hand Mace
153 - 285 Damage Speed 2.70
(81.1 damage per second)
Durability 105 / 105
Requires Level 70
Requires Master Hammersmith
Chance on hit: Increases your haste rating by 200 for 10 sec.

81.1dps and it has the same haste proc as the final mace.
(the middle one is 88.1dps and +8stamina.)

Since it appears that Jewel Crafting will make fist weapons ( I still think this is odd), I wonder if there will be a craftable epic fist like this.

As of right now, the mote extractors suck ass, to be blunt. You can obtain more motes from just killing mobs than extracting from gas - the gas is that rare/annoying to find.
