Yeah, I copied a mage of mine over last weekend and it still hasn't finished copying over to the server yet.

A friend of mine has been trying for about a week now to get copied over. It finally went through for him today, but with the mandatory name change, he's been getting an error and still isn't able to play yet.

Everyone gets a mandatory name change. Only way to get your character named correctly create a temp character with the same name as your character then copy over then delete the other character with the name you wanted.
Edit: I see my alt finally copied over and yeah there seems to be some issue with renaming.

Disagree, it's to the point where they should have pretended they lost the guild information in a fire/server crash.

If there are premades, I think this will be highly useful. A lot of people will want to test out the new raid content given the chance. Win/win for everybody.
If there are no premades, then this is mostly a waste of time. It'll take a month for most people just to level to 70. And if Blizzard wanted to do a final stress test their 60-70 progression, then raid guild invites are not exactly the best way to go about it.

Have fun installing!
The beta installer currently wants to upgrade to TBC Beta from 1.12.1, not 2.0. If you have an old version of 1.12.1 laying around (I was lucky and hadn't upgraded the laptop yet) you can monkey with the Data folders and get it installed. If not, you get to reinstall WoW or maybe install the demo. Details in assorted beta support forum threads.

I do!
There is not much else to do after your guild decided they stopped raiding. Now if only my luck would be with me! (or not be with me, since finals are coming up)
But you are correct, it seems quite odd that they waited so long with there last (?) beta invites. Perhaps they want some fresh people to retest how the lvl'ing speed will be after all the quests and leveling area's are well documented (TBC launch situation)?

It's good timing for us I think. We decided last week that we were going to do one more Naxx raid and then break until the expansion. Our last raid day was yesterday, so this gives people something else to do other than farming honor(which gets pretty boring if done every single day).

Well I hope they give you premades. I am sure the more diehard can get to 70 and actually raid for a bit (the leveling isn't that bad). I still think that it was a big mistake for Blizzard to wait this long though on the guild invites.
Oh and for those transferring toons, when I transferred the form said they only do beta character transfers on Monday maintenance unless they have changed it. So I would expect you will have to wait until monday to get your toon into beta.

Kody, I think I saw on the FoH boards that you mentioned getting keyed for the raid instances was something of an effort. While I'm not looking for specifics, can you expand on that a bit more??

Have fun on beta! Hellfire PvE is probably your best bet for raid testing, but who wants to do that? Level to 70 on Blades edge and enjoy the fruits of being lvl 70 with a flying mount..ganking those cute lvl 60s. :toot:

Well, to key for Karazhan you need a flying mount. Not too bad. To get keyed for the Tempest Keep raid is a bit more of a pain though. You have to gather items from 4 Heroic versions of dungeons, which requires revered reputation with 4 different factions. I'm not sure exactly how you get into the Coilfang raid yet since it's not open. To get into CoT: Hyjal, though, you have to kill Kael'thas and Lady Vashj, so there looks to be a decent progression path through the expansion, and it should be a while before people are doing tier 5 zones.

My email arrived, I looked at the post complaining about the copy process, I looked at the lack of pre-made 70s, and I looked at the calender showing <1 month to release. I rolled my eyes and hit the delete key on that unopened email.
Nothing on there I want to do which I haven't already done on a friends account anyway. Probably better off just taking a break or PvPing until the real thing comes out in all honesty.
Maybe if they give me a 70 premade, and the keys to a raid dungeon, I would use it.
(maybe if a guildie asks nicely ill fish it out of the recycle bin and give it to them)

Are you kidding me? Way to jump to conclusions before giving them a chance to even open up premades.

on a similar note, is it possible to have guild members already in beta apply for guildies keys now? or is it too late?

Why did you bother making this post? Do you think a single person here cares about how angsty your beta invite makes you? I'm sure you can find a nice 30-page thread on the official forums where you can fit right in.

I would bet on there being a way to jump to level 70 before the expansion is released. Blizzard doesn't expect whole guilds to level 60-70 in two weeks to test raid content, even if experience is inflated

The invites just went out today. They haven't even updated the patcher to work with v2.0.1 yet. It is, indeed, pretty silly to assume that this is the final state of the TBC beta. Give it until after the weekend.

Who knows if they'll even hit their January 16th release date. We have all had our hopes set on Blizzard releasing things on time before, and they have pushed them back before. I would not be surprised.
Though it does seem kind of worthless to give out guild invites now, should of done it months ago. I am not lucky enough to be one of these people, though we are the furthest progressed horde on our server. Lame, oh well. Good luck in there guys. I'm hoping it does release on Jan 16th.

Does anyone have an actual reason for why it should've been done "months ago" or why the only proper response at this stage is "fuck Blizzard"?
Or is the only reasoning people have "I didn't get in and now it's almost time for release :( :("?
This is basically a final large beta wave. 6-8 weeks ago the servers were packed and you couldn't even find mobs to kill for half the quests outdoors in Hellfire Peninsula. No, they did not need to invite everyone back then, because the servers were already full. All it would've done was create queues, which would be idiotic for a beta server. There's still a full month to go before release, yet people are acting like TBC is coming out this Tuesday.

A month is more than enough time to try out beta content. Think about a month of progession when your guild first started a new instance (BWL, Aq40, Naxx, etc). I doubt after a month passed someone would have said "We didnt get anything done, why did we even bother?"
Were guilds selected for the beta invites based on their pve progression? Or more their size and how long they have been around?

Well Gurg the reason I stated is "They should of done this months ago," is because as a player with a Sociology Bachelorette and a writer for the Azeroth Advisor(phase 1 of posting, establish credibility), I believe that it would have been a better way of testing than taking thousands of 'random' players with no personal connections and relying on them to get the job done. Their whole implementation of players into TBC:BETA was wrong. Guild Beta invites to the major guilds should be foremost as they are more than likely the most stringent and thorough testers they are going to find. Then when they feel things are somewhat stable, throw out the invites to the masses.
I could care less whether they give me and my guild(either Defiance or Sacred Samophlange) invites as it is a few weeks from release and my gnome still needs some Exodar rep for my epic Elephant. Socially, they forced the players whom weren't associated with other BETA players form connections out of the blue for the necessity of doing something and getting their privilege of testing the game before it comes out. Guilds being assimilated into this beta before the 'randoms' would have sped up not only the testing, but the actual community coverage and publicity of the large guild websites like FOH/NIHILUM/DnT/EJ, etc.
The one thing Blizzard should take from this one mistake is that they should rely more heavily on the core part of their hardcore community(not to bring up the old argument), and acquiesce to us first in order to get more done.
