Hello there. long time listener, first time caller.
First off let me say that I am in a guild that has BWL on easysauce farm, as well as a few bosses in AQ40. WIth the expansion coming up, we've found it hard to fill 40 man raids due to general lack of interest brought on by the new expansion gear on the horizon, blah blah blah.
We are trying to put together a smaller (20-30) group to venture into naxx and attempt trash. We've never stepped foot inside before. As i said before, we are a mostly high end BWL geared horde guild.
questions are as follows:
1.) is this even possible? Has anyone done it themselves?
2.) Which wing(s) should we attempt based on complication of pulls, etc?
3.) recommended raid composition for 25-30 people?
a.) how many kiting classes should we bring? hunters or mages?
b.) How about DPS classes? are melee classes at a disadvantange?
4.) Can anyone point me to a strat/page for trash farming? i've looked around, but haven't found anything.
thanks!

In the first few weeks we did Naxx, we'd often zone in to kill things in the very slim chances of getting some trash epics. Mind you, we never got anything, but the first few pulls of Plague wing can be done with one Hunter, like three priests a tank and anyone else who wants to come. Shackle the ghouls you aren't killing, dps one down at a time and the Hunter can run circles around the entrance kiting two slimes with Multishot/Arcane Shot/Auto shot. I think we did this and the first level (i.e. before you go down the ramp) of the DK wing with 15-20 people at most.

the plague wing is tricky, as the gargoyles require very high DPS (you have 5 seconds to kill them at 20 or 30% cant remember). 1 isnt too bad, 2 requires 40 probably. so you won't get very far in plague wing.
abo wing isn't too bad, but the slimes are annoying and you'll want 40 past the fast respawn room, so not much stuff to kill before you get stuck.
deathknight wing is definitely doable with 25-30, just got to figure out which mobs fear, splitting the adds, etc. we've had warlock pull adds to warriors when we were low on hunters, so you don't really need a ton of hunters. you can pretty much go all the way to raz with 25-30, and even kill raz if you have some +hit geared priests who can react fast. i think we've done raz many times with ~28 people. the first few groups can be pulled into main corridor, after that they are leashed. split the adds, focus fire on the right ones, and you can go through DK wing easy.
spider wing trash is doable as well, but it takes a lot of wipes to figure out the strats. so if your group gets frustrated easily i would skip this. once it all clicks you can power through spider trash, but its pretty tough to figure out the aggro sensitivity, aoe, spinning, etc.

Its certainly possible and when Naxx was new their was fair bit of information here and on wow forums available on how to go about it.
But in time invested versus return its fairly horrible.
I know for us with 7 bosses dead, We averaged 1-2 trash epics per week and of course random distribution meant we got 7-8 +fire rings, 6 cloth chests and yet never saw 3 drops in 4 months of Naxx.

You can farm trash with very few people, I have 2 manned some of the stuff w/ another warlock, and I know hunters have soloed certain mobs. If you have 20 or 30 you could easily do it, and none of the naxx trash is very hard, but honestly I don't know if I would run naxx just hoping for trash epics, because you could do a ton of it and never get anything to drop... we haven't seen a misplaced servo arm for example in months, and have only seen a few of the other trash drops in naxx in all our months of clearing it.
It'd be more prone to just farming honor for HWL / GM weapons or something, it'd be more productive than farming naxx trash.
On a side note, how come my signature won't show? :(

1.) Did it with 7-12 bored/curious people (10 or so usually) before we actually started running it properly as a guild.
2.) The plague wing you can get the 3 ghoul packs without much difficulty because the first gargoyle resets if you back out into the entrance room. Some of the Deathknights pulls are a little trickier if you have a small group.
3a.) really just need 1 good kiting hunter, but more for pulling to tanks is nice. Mages are good to have for dps and emergency kiting.
3b.) bring basically a scaled down raid group and you'll be fine. Intelligent melee who know how to back off from a whirlwind and disarm stuffare great to have. For the slimes that come with the ghoul packs, you can pull aggro off the kiting hunter...gives a bit of a nasty surprise to melee, ranged dps will just take over kiting (they're slow as molasses so whoever's pulled aggro can continue to dps)
4.) wowwiki gives a description of the mob abilities. you can pretty much figure out what to kill first from the descriptions of the mobs (off the top of my head... if it's something that'll reanimate the dead or aoe shadowbolts the raid, kill it first...the shadowbolts have limited range btw so make range back off if they're getting hit...disarm the deathknight guys and position them so that your raid doesn't get feared into the room...kite the slow slimes while you kill the ghouls...if you're short healing, kite the ghouls after they enrage, they hit kind of hard for 2 healers to keep up a tank if you only have about 10 people total...first gargoyle is resettable...abominations separate them, the chain cleave sucks)
overall, the trash drop rates aren't that great for the time invested as other people have mentioned, but if you just want to be in Naxx and sightsee a bit, it's fun. (In that case, i'd take a smaller group because it's a lot more challenging/fun). You will be getting the wartorn blue stuff fairly regularly though. Not really that useful, but for a memento, it's not so bad.

We had 25 on tonight, so decided to make our first Naxx trip rather than attempt AQ25. We did the first few Plague wing pulls, managed to kill the first gargoyle after much comedy, and cleared to Razuvious who unfortunately did not go very well... but we got one epic (MSA!) in the process so it was a pretty successful trip ^^ I would definitely say what we did could be done with less, although I probably wouldn't want to go under 15 for the Deathknight wing.

This is the WoW equivalent of how gambling addictions start. Win big your first night and you chase that high for a long time. "Come on man, just one more trash run...."
Of course it is a great morale booster if you are trying to convince people to come out and learn Naxx.

The trash drops are too rare, not worth the time investment imo. Do what someone stated above: Farm Alliance for your pvp rewards, some are nearly as good as the trash drop weapons anyways! (high warlords right claw = so nice for a hemo rogue =)

Frankly it's not worth farming the little bit of trash there and hoping for a drop... It is proabably worth it to go and see some of naxx though. It's a cool instance. Otherwise I'll agree with Kink. PvP is way nice for loot right now, specially the weapons

Didn't they remove drops from the slimes in plague wing? People were splitting/sploiting the pulls and soloing slimes.

@ kink, evert -
we'd basically be doing it as a challenge. We haven't filled a raid in a while and its something we could do - as a group - that wasn't on farm status. New content so to speak. if we get trash purps, great. if not, no biggie :)
thanks for all the info! keep it coming
