I really like either something like Project Pat because it makes me feel like a baller as I slice up my enemies and crack jaws, or something like God is an Astronaut or Godspeed! because it makes me feel like I am doing something really epic.

The sweet sweet sound of my raid leader asking "Why can't you get behind the ice block?" on Vent.

(Uhm, lately a Hollertronix mix called "Bmore Gutter Music", but Godspeed! is really good too. Pretty much anything I'd listen to normally, I'll listen to while raiding.)

It's either jazz, or something like strapping young lad; mood dependent.

I think I'm bi-polar or something.

Related note: If anyone can recommend some good jazz, I'd be appreciative. I kinda got turned on to it via some nicola conte remixes, and don't really know crap about the genre.

Amon Tobin, DJ Shadow, Bonobo, or Hive/Keaton.

I don't think I have a favorite equation.

In the interests of disclosure, Hellsoap doesn't actually raid. Or play WoW, really. He just comes by every month or so to make a dumb post.

I usually have some flavor of trance playing when I am out soloing or in a casual 5-man or something. On raids, it's just Vent and in-game sounds.

J-Pop if I'm the raid leader so that whenever I talk I subject my guildmates to aural pain and torture.

When we're in BWL it's 'Weird Science' by Oingo-Boingo and the Magitek Factory theme, over and over. Then Dashboard Confessional for when we hit Nef, ya know, because that's probably how he's feeling right about now.

Phillip Glass for everything else.

Edit: Took off the quotes around Dashboard Confessional

Raiding music, for me, is largely dependent on my mood and also on the time of day. But essentially it follows like this:

Early raid:

Coolio's Greatest Hits (includes the Kenan and Kell theme song)
The Streets
Aladdin Soundtrack
The Wu
Damien Marley
Dead Prez
Mae

Xzibit, mostly just the song "Choke me, Spank me (Pull my Hair)"

Middle of the raid:

Mos Def + Talib Kweli- Black Star [album]
Snow Patrol
Stars of Track and Field

Will Smith Greatest Hits (Namely Will2k)- "The new millenium, yo, escuse me, WILLENIUM")
Brother's Past- Leave the Light On

Note: Basically at this point I'm usually too inebriated to care, so this section of the raid is more fuzzy and my choice of music can be considered its most flexible.

Last hour or two of the raid:

Brandtson (The good, mellow songs)
Damien Rice
God is an Astronaut
Jealous Sound
- Recovery Room
Wallflowers, mostly their first album
Sigur Ros

I agree with Kalman. Raiding music usually mimics my everyday music, tempered slightly by the other people in the room (read: girlfriend, though we have mostly overlapping taste)

Lately, if I put something on while raiding, it's Big Business, Pelican, Isis, Cave-in, Cable...basically the best stuff on Hydrahead or Relapse records.

I'm a big Don Caballero fan. They do a sort of math metal-ish/jazz hybrid. If you're feeling adventurous, John Zorn has releases spanning the genre from "WTF" to "ow my ears" to "oh that's nice"

See you, auntie.

I've only started listening to wow sounds recently. Before I always just had wow muted and had the tv on or listened on vent. However, I'm starting to really catch certain sounds and enjoy the game more as a result. Nothing is better than hearing a gnome mage screw up his aoe and make that cute little death scream as he kicks his feet up in the air.

"Puns are inherently evil, in the "must do evil!" sort of way."

Slaying WoW bosses to Mega Man boss music is priceless.

I'd note that I have my sound setup wired in such a fashion that I can listen to music at blastingly loud volumes, but if someone talks in Vent, the music gets muted for as long as they're talking, at which point back to eardrum destruction.

Can you elaborate on this, please?

I've noticed that a fair number of raid leaders hit the trance/techno bottle.

Guilty of evolution walking on fire while leading thaddius progression.

First star to the right, and straight on till morning.
