I can confirm that I had a level and a half rested. I'm 2/3rds of the way to 62 at the moment and I've been rested the entire time.

This really is odd. My main, who's been sixty forever, had about a quarter of a level rested. An alt who's been sixty for five months had half a level rested. I'm wondering if I was camped in a non-inn/bonus spot for some period of time after they reset the rest xp.

I'm thinking that rest XP is calculated when you log in. If you have the expansion, you can get rest XP at 60; if you don't, you can't (obviously). If you have been logged out for a few weeks, in an inn, then when you log in with the expansion, you're going to get a lot of rested XP. If you were logged in non-xpac 5 minutes before upgrading, you're going to get none.

This matches what has happened to me (logged in ~4 hours before installing xpac, got roughly 1.5 bubbles) and my friend (hadn't logged in for a day, got a few bubbles).

edit: Just realised that is fairly unclear. What I mean is, when you log in, it checks to see how long you have been logged out for, and where, and assigns rest XP based on that. If you've been logged out for 5 months and you are in IF when you first log in with the expansion, it's going to assign you a full 1.5 bars of rested XP. If you've been in IF for 5 months, but you logged in the night before without the expansion, then it's only going to give you 24 hours of rested XP.

I logged in a 60 alt (in IF) and had 3/4 of level rested. That character had been there for about a month.

Maybe rested xp comes faster than it used to.

Millions of words are written annually purporting to tell how to beat the races, whereas the best possible advice on the subject is found in the three monosyllables: 'Do not try.'

I'm not touching my main until at least Sunday. He was logged in and killing stuff around Karazhan for hours last Saturday (enough that if rest xp accumulated between 2.0 and then, it was all burned off). He has since been logged off in Orgrimmar. He's also on a different account, and since I haven't picked up my second copy of TBC yet he's not activated for TBC.

I figure I'll activate him and log him in on Sunday. Then maybe a week later I'll log in my 60 hunter on that account, who has been parked in Ironforge untouched for at least 6 months.

Between those, I should be able to give you a dissertation on the subject (unless Blizzard just do a wipe of all rest xp for level 60s in the meantime).

Just to reiterate my earlier comment, the following was posted on our EU forum:

All rested XP should have been removed from level 60 characters before the release of the expansion.

If anyone did receive rested XP, this should not have happened. However, at this point there is nothing that can be done to correct it; we will not remove XP from people, or reset the rested XP again.

I'm pretty sure it's similar to the issue with buying riding skill after Patch 2.0.3. Even though Rank 3 and its discount was removed, some people still got 10% extra shaved off the riding skill cost and the explanation for that basically panned out to be you're lucky you're not, we won't do anything.

Went home and checked last night.

I have 3 60's -

My main (priest) - 1/3 of a bar of rested left. This is after questing out a half level a night before last.
My coke machine (mage) - 100% of a level rested xp bonus. Kinda weird.
My tank (warrior) - 50% of a level rested xp bonus.

Interesting element between the two alts is that they both were logged out at exactly the same place - inn in ogri.

My mage had zero rest xp (alright... maybe about 500... one mob kill and it was gone). Alt warlock had 2 bubbles worth. Neither logged out in an inn.

My observations: activated TBC 1/16 about 7pm in the evening. Logged into the server about 9pm. All characters had been left at inns. For the rest XP observations, I checked my screenshots of each character when they hit 60.

Priest - had about 1/4 bar of rest XP. Only had played her in raids prior to TBC and a bit of grinding. Less than half a bubble of rest XP when she hit 60.
Mage - more than full level of rest XP. Hadn't killed anything in over a week before TBC came out. Full rest when she hit 60.
Warlock - about 1/3 bar of rest XP. I had taken her to 2 ZG raids the week prior to TBC release. About 1/4 bar of rest when she hit 60.
Warrior - more than full level of rest XP. Hadn't played her at all for quite a while. Full rest when she hit 60.

I activated TBC at ~6 PM Tuesday. I didn't get in game until about 8 or 9 due to having to re-download the patches and a 750 person queue. When I got on, I had about a quarter level rest XP. I don't have exact numbers on this, but I did half a level that night before I had to sleep, and I recall rest ran out about halfway through that. I hadn't left Orgimmar since Sunday.

Here's my thought on the rested differences. If you BG'd after you hit 60 and turned in tokens (on the old system) you got quest XP. Even though you're at max level it's still pushing the rested bar further even though you're not really getting xp. The same would apply to quest you turned in after hitting 60.

I can test this out tonight as one of my characters was heavy into PVP at 60 and turned in a lot of tokens. While the ones I'm playing now did little to no BG'ing or questing after 60 (they just raided).

This makes sense to me. I did not log in my rogue for 2 days before TBC, logged in to have about a third a level rested. I WAS logged in the inn.

So I guess anyone with a level 60 who they put on the shelf, and camped in an inn/city, could log in asap and see their rested.

There is light at the end of the tunnel.
The only problem is, it's often an incoming train.

A friend of mine didn't log in between 2.0 and TBC on the live servers and got full rested credit.
I logged in all my characters between 2 and 4 days prior to TBC launch and had between 1/3rd and half a level rested on all of em.

The longer you didn't play before TBC the more rested XP you got.

I'm not so sure. I had a rarely-played alt who had been sitting in Undercity since before 2.0 came out, and he has less than half a level rested.

This weekend I put in the code for my main's account and immediately logged in my main, who had been sitting around un-logged for exactly a week in Orgrimmar after participating in one last grind session outside Karazhan three days before TBC release. He had just under a full level rested. Definitely seems to me to be a case of how long you've sat in a city or inn without being logged in after a particular date (probably the 2.0.4 patch).
