I've seen a ton of movie references in the TBC so far. Which ones did you love/hate/notice, etc?

I'll start with the obvious Toshley's Station quest "Picking up some Power Converters"

Script reference from Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope:
LUKE: But I was going into Tosche Station to pick up some power converters...
OWEN: You can waste time with your friends when your chores are done. Now come on, get to it!

This page covers quite alot of references. It was a fun read the first time through although I probably missed out on quite a few easter eggs because I am not much of a movie watcher myself. :(

Not really a movie reference but in front of the Mana Tombs entrance we see "Slim, shady dealer"... will the real Eminem now please stand up?

Dr. Frederick Frankenstein: Igor, help me with the bags.
Igor: Soitenly. You take the blonde, I'll take the one in the turban.
Dr. Frederick Frankenstein: I was talking about the luggage.

There are about a million and a half Dune references.

The newest one I've seen is an elite sandworm in Terokkar Forest in the Bone Wastes named Shai'Halud or something like that.

There is a goblin in Netherstorm (Midrealm Post) called "Shauly Pore" - presumably a reference to Pauly Shore

Not a movie reference (unless you count the Pick of Destiny), but the Tenacious Defender incription says "It has the power...to move you".

Yes, Harris Pilton is the Scryrs bar.

Millions of words are written annually purporting to tell how to beat the races, whereas the best possible advice on the subject is found in the three monosyllables: 'Do not try.'

Incredibly obvious but amusing nonetheless, the Sporegar Underbog quest Bring Me A Shrubbery! and the follow-up Bring Me Another Shrubbery! Ripped straight from Monty Python and the Holy Grail.

Pretty sure the engineering grandmaster, K. Lee Smallfry, in Zangarmarsh is a Firefly shoutout. (Kaylee Fry is the mechanic on the show.)

Edit: Confirmed. I was a little hesitant because, well, I see Firefly shoutouts everywhere. But she's wearing coveralls, her quest text uses "shiny" to mean "satisfactory" twice, she says she loves strawberries, and she has a compression coil to fix. (Which is the part that broke in "Out of Gas.") It's her.

Not only is there Shauly Pore, but he is in the dome.

If you don't understand this reference, it is imperative that you go and rend Biodome immediately. This is a gem of a film.

Not movie references either but from games:

- Broggok in the Blood Furnace seems to have a very close resemblance to a Cacodemon from the Doom series
- The entrance to Terokkar forest from Hellfire Peninsula has a very close resemblance to the entrance to the petrified forest in Grim Fandango
- Upon entering any Veil in Terokkar forest a small part of the Diablo song is played
- The music in the tombs in the bone wastes have parts of the Diablo 1 dungeon music woven into it.

There's a scripted event in Toshley's Station involving Razak Ironsides killing 'bugs' which is straight out of Starship Troopers. This character is a reference to Lieutenant Jean Rasczak played by Michael Ironside. Including commanding gnomes wielding huge guns in a defense of the base against the 'bugs'. The dialog among the NPCs is also inspired by the movie. For example - his interact dialog reads:

"Young lady, I'm not going to lie to you; things aren't pretty around here. We're under constant assault by the bugs and our very way of life, our freedom, is at stake! Are you going to be a responsible citizen and help out?"

The quest "Needs more Cowbell" deserves honorable mention (Netherstorm).

edit: oh, and in Manaforge Coruu, I noticed a floating mop and a bucket. The mop is busy washing the floor endlessly by itself. Could only be a Fantasia reference.

There is a subtle movie reference at the Nessingwary camp in Nagrand.
Next time your there, check out the crashed plane, and what is sitting on it. It made me chuckle at least :P

Not a referrence or obscure on this forum, but do most servers have a constant mob of people in nagrand spam-clicking Gurgthock to make him shout their names?

Kinda creepy :S

While not a movie reference, whoever designed the trash mobs before the first boss of Arcatraz was definetely a Final Fantasy fan, as they use abilites that mimic Ahrimans and Malboros.

I thought that was more like a general saying, not actually coined by fight club?

s/Terokkar/Vegas/ would be a more accurate reference, I think.

Is a reference to a film "Short Circuit", the line "Number 5 is alive" was a tag-line for main character (robot)
