Whenever I fly to a flying-only area to explore or herbalize, I find elites that no one ever talks about, with no drop tables listed on thottbot, and no quests I've ever seen to kill, but they look like they should be there for a reason. There's a skyscraper-sized demon in far western Nagrand. There's an elite tiger in a cave in Skettis, as well as a giant water elemental under the lake there. I'm sure there's many more I haven't even seen yet. I assume all these things can't be raid bosses with phat l3wts or I'd have heard about them. I also figure they can't be party bosses with worthwhile blues either or they'd probably have drop tables on thott. Are they just for flavor?

If the Nagrand elite you're talking about is Durn <Son of Gruul>, he's a quest mob.

The Cat in the skettis cave drops no loot whatsoever, not even vendor items. I assumed it's a flavor-of-the-month pet for hunters to tame. It's got a god awful large amount of hit points.

I believe the demon he's speaking of is at Twilight Ridge behind the Forge camps. I can only speculate that they are either flavor mobs or for quests that have not been implemented yet.

nah, I killed him for that quest - this guy is in a flying-only area farther west. I wish I remembered his name but I'm not at home and can't load up the game.

It feels like the flying-only areas didn't get done in time for release. I tried mining some of the elite Vortex Giants at Vortex Pinnacle in Blade's, didn't get anyhing but vendor trash.

I discovered a beholder-type named elite in Shadowmoon in a flying only area. Tried to duo it with a rogue (me mage) and failed utterly. Definitely a 5-man mob. No recorded loot at the time either.

e: This guy: Collidus the Warp-Watcher

That's Reth'hedron the Subduer, a 73 elite eredar who doesn't seem to be part of any currently available quest lines.

There are flying mobs as well that seem hard to pull. I was flying over the bone wastes the other day and saw a level 65 eilite dragon. He was flying far to high for anyone level 65 to be able to pull him and short of a dismount/slow fall pull I can't see how you would get him down.

The bone dragon is for a quest... you summon him to land, then you fight him. He patrols up in the air until someone calls him.

As for the water elemental, I duo'd him with a paladin (go go frost resist gear) and got nothing for it... no idea what the mob's there for.

He's a quest mob. It's the same for the elite bird that flies over the Bone Wastes. I think it's pretty neat they took the time to code this in.

I've seen a level 71 Rare Elite dragon spawn (the name fails me at the moment) in Blade's Edge Mountains in the western "fly-only" zone. Anyone killed him at all (he's in the area between the Burning Legion areas with the level 71 Fel Sworns/scorpions/lizards)?

The flying dragon is a quest mob. This thread is about elite mobs in flying only areas, talking about quest mobs that every level 67 and his brother has seen is not the topic of discussion.

There seems to be quite a few loose ends, both in strangely hard mobs with seemingly no purpose and quests and NPCs that clearly should lead to something. My guess is that they are quest lines for instances or future server events that were originally planned for release (ie the Demon could be a mob you must kill in the quest line for the Black Temple key or something like that) that didnt make it into the final release and will be patched later.

That's generally my experience with mining mob corpses. I get mostly vendor trash, but an occasional gem. the drop rate of non-trash has been low.

Could it have been Teribus? He's summoned as part of a quest, but spends some time in the air. When we summoned him, he actually ran off for a bit before coming back to fight.

See you, auntie.

Hemathion is the rare elite dragon that paths in the Western Blade's Edge area. He's not too bad with a good tank a 4-5 people. Drops random suffix chestpieces. We got a plate "of Arcane Resistance" the one time we killed him.
