I think honorable mention should go to Blackheart the Inciter. At least the first time you are there, it's a gas when you try and figure out why every one is beating the snot out of each other. The best is when whatever mechanism decides who attacks who makes 4 members of the party focus on one guy, even if it does cause a wipe.

The Karazhan Chess encounter is quite unique. While not really a challenge, it wins by being a fun way to unwind in a dungeon.

I really enjoyed the trampoline quest (Jump-a-tron) in Nagrand as a rather unique and entertaining quest. Nothing like a pile of skeletons under a bird's nest and a trampoline on a hill to set you up for an entertaining few minutes...

While not technically an 'encounter' figuring out what triggers Aran's flamewreath has been a source both of huge amusement and frustration for our guild. Among the many triggers include accepting a battleres into a flamewreath (boom), letting divine shield drop while in a flame wreath (boom). And the lowly snaketrap in a flamewreath will forever be a source of amusement for us (in addition to spawning endless SoaP references).

Generally I think Karazhan is a really nicely done dungeon. The boss encounters are all quite different, and there's a fair amount of lore quests for the junkies . I quite liked the scripted event where Medivh fights the dragon off his balcony. Really my only complaint is I think the trash respawn rate should be toned down a lot. The trash before the Curator should repop every time the raid wipes (it's a gauntlet encounter after all), and the rest should be on a 4hour timer like heroics.

[edit] Oh, I missed one of my favorites: both the Dragon-ride down to CoT dungeons and the Netherdrake flight in Nagrand - big fan of riding a dragon :P

No doubt. The netherdrake looks particularly epic when in shadowform.

I've really gotten some laughs out of Grand Warlock Nethekurse, and Warbringer O'mrogg in Shattered Halls.

The Warlock is a pretty basic encounter, but listening to him belittle his servants is pretty funny. O'mrogg is just hilarious though; the fighting heads brings back one of my favorite click-soundbites from old Warcraft.

I'm sitting in my first Mechanar run at the moment, waiting to see if a GM will unbug our lift. Clearing through the instance, knowing that we're about to tangle with Pathaleon, who I've been thwarting on and off since I arrived in Outland, is pretty cool.

However, the best quest-line - hands down - has to be the Thrall arc in Nagrand. More than anything else in the game, it's felt as though I really achieved something that mattered.

Ah, I was just about to hit 70 when doing that, wasn't really paying attention to the quests that closely.

I felt really let down by him. Build him up and then he's just this piss easy guy in Mechanar. Meanwhile bosses we've never heard about before we enter their room have interesting emotes and mechanics, and a setting that makes the fight feel meaningful.

The Calculator is just in this meaningless room at the end of some bridge.

Shade of Aran as the best encounter.

Toshley Station quests (alliance) are goofy and pretty cool even if somewhat annoying at times. Cipher of Damnation questline is very well done.

Aside from the actual mob/boss mechanics, encounters with quality voice acting I find very enjoyable. Aran, Moroes, the Oz and Wolf plays, and Malchezaar all delight me. Though the fights are relatively simple in some of the following bosses, their voice acting add so much: Kalithresh sounds like one bad dude, Shaffar is so polite while creating chaos, and Steamrigger makes me smile. I still laugh every time I hear "Pretty trinkets!" and "I'm not DONE yet, you idiot!".

Same goes for scripted mob encounters. Legionnaires and the archer hall really give Shattered Halls a "storming the castle" feeling. Fighting to Murmur is intimidating. Freeing Thrall and onward in Old Hillsbrad. They've come such a long way from Deadmines and Scarlet Monastary.

If I had to pick a least favorite though, it'd be Gruul. He's a strategic letdown after Maulgar, doesn't have much character or any voice acting, and doesn't really do much that makes you say "whoa, neat!".

Ugh, we suffered so many wipes to flame wreath that we couldn't explain before we finally figured this one out...we thought somebody was being a dumbass and moving over and over, or maybe a pet was causing it, but we just couldn't seem to pin it down.

...Turns out, that god damned Woeful Healer from Redemption of the Fallen was what was triggering it. I thought those books were SO cool when I first saw them, too =/

We also experienced a Snake Trap wipe, and the last charge of my Mechanical Yeti.

I liked fighting as Teron Gorefiend.
The Cipher of Damnation was a lot of fun.
Blowing up the infernals was a good time as well.
I also really enjoyed the event at the top of the Path of Conquest (Its name escapes me at the moment.) It's not too often 5 people from different places all across NA all say "Oh fuck" at exactly the same time.

I think a lot of the quests in Shadowmoon are really well throught out, and deliver a lot more variety than most other zones, both in lore and in mechanical content.

Battle of the Crimson Watch

The "Suggested Players [4]" is something of a running joke in guild chat at this point. That's the quest that everyone who's running a random group of 3-4 people plowing through Shadowmoon group quests runs into and has a very unpleasant surprise.

Battle of the Crimson watch took us 5 players with one extra warlock outside the group, a battle rez, an ankh, both of my elemental totem cooldowns, and bloodlust and we still barely made it through - and that was with a good group composition with 2 healers and a prot tank.

Edit - my favorite quest though is the aforementioned trampoline quest in Nagrand.
I actually thought Moroes was a pretty fun fight when we killed him last night, very hectic, reminded me of the first time you step in to do razorgore and everyone is running around screaming like a little girl.

Well then, I'm slightly proud that I did it with a 5-man party (granted it was our guild's best). Basically, I woke up from a nap, joined Vent, heard lots of swearing, said "What's up?" and they made me log in and catch them up on the quest. The first attempt when I joined - we beat it. Quite humbling!

Heroic Capacitus in Mechanar has to be my favorite single 5-man fight in the game. He's not "hard," but it's just really fun.

As stated, not much is going to top the Thrall line in Nagrand in terms of lore and an epic feel -- Nagrand is such a huge zone, and they managed to tie everything together in a really satisfying manner.

The Wizard of Oz is probably my favorite raid encounter just in terms of pure fun. It's not "hard" as such, but I love how chaotic it can be, yet controlled, all at once, and the voice-acting is spot-on and just hilarious.
