I managed to get well over 1500 AP and 25% crit with five pieces of Wrath and a few pieces of NR. :o I think a lot of our ease had to do with the buffs, but the extra bit of tuning since Tuesday night certainly helped too. I'd like to see the current incarnation of him when we're not quite as overpowered.

I hit up to 1850 ap at times with 3 pieces of wrath and a piece of nr. ~26% crit.

I was at like 1654ap or something with around 27% crit.

And I still got owned on the DMs. (Damn tentacles were getting killed before I even got in range. :()

How can you help?
I can shoot things and then make my pet move toward them.

Blizzard recently said they are re-evaluating all buffs & consumables in the game - possibly they are going to reduce the stacking power of a lot of this stuff, as I would think that balancing raid content is going to be more and more impossible when such vast power levels exist depending upon what potions & buffs your using.

EDIT: Apologies, I'm being ignorant... :)

Big congrats guys!

I disagree - these buffs are never going to win an encounter for you. Using them to learn every fight would probably save you some time, but it would also require a guild to devote a lot of time to farming and/or pour an enormous amount of gold into the economy

P.S. I still think C'Thun should've had a guaranteed drop of Regalia + Armaments, or at least one of them.

If you aren't a goblin, why not?
If you are a goblin you rule

I'd be curious to hear from guilds that are just seeing C'Thun now about how they find the fight.
We are on like our 6th or 7th dedicated night of Cthun I think, I'll have to check, and not using very many "extreme" buffs at all, no flasks I think. We've been "up to" cthun for about a month though, but raid attendance and interest to keep doing attempts when we knew already of the roadblock the more hardcore guilds were running into, was not good. Last night we got to stage 2 for our 2nd time, early in the evening, ending at a stage 2 low of 82% before end of evening. At first glance I'd say the progress seems similar to nef, maybe a bit harder. You have to realize though with all the hype surrounding Cthun we had a lot more information to go on without learning it ourselves. It's a very fun fight though I think, and at first glance, seems reasonably balanced. Once we've killed him I'll say again whether I think it should be harder, as I am one who likes the idea of some things being out of reach for guilds, and not turned into ultra farm mode like nef is now. However, with no expensive buffs going, this is def doable for us in another week or so, and then that'll only have been a total of 10-15 total raid days(evenings) dedicated to the encounter, so draw your conclusions from that I guess.

We kindof counted on blizzard not fixing the fight so soon and didn't do a single try before the fixes (focused on viscidus but had problems getting more than 4 shamans).
So far we've done:
1 full night of cthun: got him to a heartbeaking 1% in phase 1 as our best try.

3 tries after killing trash with a raid of 35 people: some people that weren't there day 1 got some experience but didn't get him down to less than 15% phase 1.

1 full night with a well prepared and buffed raid last night: I was beeing foolish thinking we would bring him down yesturday but I was overeager. eye tentacles didn't go down fast enough on some of the sides and the problem really didn't sort itself. Managed to bring him down to phase 2 with 35ish people alive after the first few tries every try. Managed a total of 1 weakened state and got him to 83% (pretty weak) that try, what owns us more than anything is still small eye tentacles not dying fast enough.

We know what to do for the most part, need better dps prioritizing in phase2 especially and find a good balance for how much dps we keep in the stomach but hopefully in a raid or two we'll get him/it down.

Might aswell ask something while I'm at it. class setup. our standard one in aq/bwl is:
4xdruid,4xhunter,5xmage,6xpriest,6xrogue,5xshaman,4xwarlock,6xwarrior.

thinking about bringing 2 extra mages and one less priest and warrior. sounds like a doable setup?

edit: btw went in with close to zero knowledge about phase 0 but did pick up some things about phase2 (like the weakend state beeing triggered by killing the claws in the stomach)

Interesting, thanks for the feedback. That's certainly a reasonable learning curve.

As for raid composition, that's damn near the exact raid composition of a typical EJ raid, so no complaints from me. Dropping one priest wouldn't be the worst thing in the world for C'Thun while you're learning the fight -- phase 2 is all about DPS. If you have enough it, you don't really require much healing.

I wonder how possible the fight would be with 32 rogues and 8 druids.

It wouldn't work. Out of the 8 druids scheduled to show up, 5 would be feral, 2 would be late or inexcusably absent, and one would be in the middle of a 1 week "retirement."
