The Metaphysics of Jumping

OK, sorry for asking the LEAST essential question ever, but has anyone ever done research into what causes the Night Elf flippy jump or the Blood Elf spinny jump to "proc"?

Is it a random % chance? Is it based on timing? Is it based on your character's animation at the time you press the spacebar?

I believe it is random.

Once, when we were standing outside C'thun's room getting ready to mount up and move inside, a Night Elf Rogue buddy of mine managed to do 8 flips in a row. Needless to say, it was pretty amazing. The next day, I made a Night Elf alt and spent the majority of the afternoon trying to flip. I think I managed 3 in a row.

I'm also inclined to assume its random but, its pretty funny when you get several flips in a row.

I once had 10 clearcasts in a row.

But how do you know for sure? I think you need at least a sample size of 5000+ jumps in each direction with each race and gender combination. Then you need to compare it against each other for consistency's sake and write a couple pages about the fairness of certain races having special jump animations. Maybe we can have some theorycraft as to the "metaphysical advantages" of having a special jump animation.

It's random on the client, I think. I've done some testing (shoot me, I was bored) and you don't always see someone flip when they see themselves flip; also vice versa.

Shit heap, here we come!

Actually, that is pretty interesting. I had assumed this off hand but never actually tested it. It seemed pretty obvious that all animations are client-side when people would comment on the Bog Lords in Underbog and their obsessive compuslve arm-pit sniffing. I would just see them standing there while people on vent went crazy over it.

Now you know why my guild isn't through Kara yet.

We didn't get any hunter legs from Ragnaros for well over a year... But you never know, a night elfs jumps *could* be based on the normal of the poly the elf is standing on... Or maybe they only flip when Hogger is killed. This thread is dumb.

My record is 6 back to back flips. I alway tap forward a tiny bit riiiiight before the jump in hopes of proccing it. It almost seems to work.... kinda... some of the time. Most likely it is my own little superstition.

I'm kinda sad to hear that not everyone sees you flip when you do... I've busted out some nice on-the-go jump off a cliff twist flip PW:Shield combos that looked pretty ninjaly on my client.

There is a direct correlation between the maximum number of flips your Night Elves can perform in a given MC run, and the amount of Lawbringer that drops.

There's always free cheese in the mouse traps, but the mice there ain't happy.

And here I thought there'd be something about bunnyhopping or using weird physics to gain momentum through abuse of jumping mechanics.

Perhaps, one day, the conc jump will be re-discovered into WoW terms.

This could've been a bad thread, but all the startlingly incisive witticisms from the peanut gallery made it much more worthwhile and a better use of my reading time!

Or not.
