Rogues and Raiding

Recently my guild has been trying to push forth SCC, just started into it. We continue to wipe and wipe on bosses with no progress it seems. Last night we had 6 rogues in the raid. To me it seems like that because we have so many rogues raiding we are gimping our selves in more support classes, such as healing or AE. The problem with this is that we do not have enough replacements to switch the rogues out, so we try and recruit and recruit. How many rogues do other typically take on raids with them. And do you think the success that we are not having is due to the wrong raid make up?

I think the ideal number of rogues is 2-3. 6 is defenitely way too many.

I think bringing 6 of any class would cause problems in terms of raid balancing. Especially when that class' role is a narrow one (e.g. Rogues).

6 rogues does seem a bit high to be honest. We typically run with 2-3, depending on the encounter. Some fights flat-out require AE/ranged DPS, and while rogues still have an important role to play in those fights, having too many can mean you fall behind on adds, etc.

Our typical DPS setup is somewhat flexible, here's roughly what we usually have though:

1 DPS warrior
1 enhancement shaman
1 feral druid
2-3 rogues
2-3 hunters
5-8 mages+warlocks
2 shadow priests

Again, for some fights it's easier to stack AE classes, or healers, or whatever. It's never really a requirement though, unless you are trying to do something like Morogrim or Solarian with 2-3 total AEers.

This was pretty much my views on it also. If only we could get some other classes to app that were not rogues then we would be fine. After the contant frustrations of wiping last night, just looking at the raid make up made me think "I think we are gimping our selves bringing this many rogues". Even though we needed them to fill the raid, I wanted to get a good idea of an ideal number for the future.

6 of any class is too many. Rogues are best if used in groups of 2 or 3, with an Enhancement Shaman, a DPS Warrior and depending on 2 or 3 a Feral Druid. The DPS that group will put out is far more then what 5 rogues will put out alone, and you get a spare emergency healer, and 1-2 off tanks. We tried raiding with 4 rogues for a while, and have recently decided to go back to 3, because the synergies are just that much better.

If you have to bring 6 rogues, make sure they all have a shaman, warrior and or feral druid with them... but generally just don't do it... outside of Aran... I can't see I fight where you wouldn't be better off with something else.
