Deathknight Speculation

(Not totally sure on your speculation policy, but I thought it would be fun to see how everyone feels the class will be developed, the exact role it will fill, and other specifics about the class. Feel free to Dung Heap it if you guys don't like speculation)

Well, we don't really have a whole lot of concrete information about the Deathknight other than the absolute basics...

* Functions as a DPS/Tank hybrid.
* Uses both physical attacks and shadow/frost magic.
* Tanks without a shield, either using 2 handers or dual wielding.
* Uses plate armor, swords, and axes.
* Can summon undead, much like Force of Nature, the Druid talent, but are not a pet class.

Rune Resource System

* Deathknights use spells and abilities not through rage, mana, or energy, but through runes.
* Any time out of combat Deathknights can carve six runes, of three varying types on their blades: Blood, Frost, and Unholy.
* Abilities consume these runes. Stronger abilities use more runes, different abilities use different types, potentially multiple types for one ability.
* Consumed runes recharge after a period of time.

Aside from that does anyone have any speculation as to how the class will function? What will the talent trees be? How exactly will their tanking mechanics function? Will they have any strong debuffing capability? Etc.

Does any quality thread start off with a first sentence that announces it's dung heap quality?

Well you've got 2 problems right there, plus a thread already existing that's filled with mindless speculation and rumor about things that people don't know about, which is already on the front page of this forum.

Vyktianity already has over 75 billion followers. The first verse in his book "Gift of the Wild" is "In the beginning Vyk cast lifebloom and then maul."

Indeed. A thread about a dozen different topics where you can't get any solid discussion going on any one of the dozen :P Trying to discuss anything in that thread is pretty tiresome.

The thing that struck me earlier today, was that Death Knights won't outgear instances as quickly as warriors/ paladins. Since their combat system is tied to refreshes (and barring some mechanic where heals refresh their runes faster, which, granted, might come), you don't have the issue of your overgeared tank not getting hit for as much and therefore not recovering as much rage/mana. This has become noticeable in some of our tanks, when they do 5-mans and/ or Karazhan.

Of course, the drawback is, with the stated system, the ability to burst threat generation appears to be missing, as even if you unload your full rune bar, it has a static refresh time.

It feels very much like resource micro management, much like rogues.
