Picture of the day.

I've tried to get up there a few times in my wow career with some good SS's. Can't believe I originally started on that server back in Nov 2004 and was in some mass invite guild at the time that I'm not entirely 100% on but I think was the goon squad.

And this is a topic because..?

ps:
Elitist Jerks is a guild on the US-Mal'Ganis server, Horde side. They were formed as a splinter guild from the beta Goon Squad, after a number of members decided that they wanted to pursue end-game content in a more organized, "hardcore" fashion than the rest of the guild.

The guild currently known as Elitist Jerks, with more or less the same leadership, etc., was called "Goon Squad" in the closed beta in mid-2004. The closed beta was obviously smaller, and when retail arrived, since Goon Squad was the "official" SomethingAwful Forums guild, an influx of 700+ new players was expected. The closed beta folks enjoyed playing together, and realized that they'd be swallowed up in the surge of new players and lose the sense of community they'd enjoyed, and so they started a separate guild when retail hit. This guild was called "Hooligan Syndicate" (a synonym for Goon Squad... get it??).

Now, obviously, the people who had been in the closed beta and had done all the leveling content already raced through it again, and a large number of the first level 60s on the server were from HS. As such, they were the ones who took the lead in organizing the first actual raids in Jan/Feb 2005. Around this time a number of the more "hardcore" people left GS to join HS, since anyone in GS who hit 60 within a month or so was inevitably spending most of their time running instances with other level 60s in HS. This caused some hard feelings for some. Anyway, as we started to get into raiding, we (HS) proposed a basic DKP system to allocate the loot, and the leadership of Goon Squad was vehemently opposed to using DKP. Some of them were assholes about it. (Some of us were assholes about it too.) The phrase "elitist jerks" got thrown around a bit. Our leadership (I wasn't an officer at the time, fwiw) decided to rename the guild Elitist Jerks as a parody of the whole thing, and to go about our business on our own. So, yes, EJ "split" from Goon Squad in a sense, but is in no way a splinter guild and in fact existed entirely before the guild now known as GS came into being.

Also I'm /gkicking Gonktarget when I get home tonight for consorting with the enemy.

(Also, yes, I'll Heap this thread in a bit.)

Fun fact: it took me months of being a GM to finally realize that /gkick is not a real WoW function. Man was I emberrassed when after I said "THIS IS SPARTA!!!!!" the member in question was forced to /gquit.

Pity, I was just going to post my picture of yesterday, where our GM and holy paladin single-handedly downed an enraged Karathress while in a bubble.

Well actually the pic doesn't show this (was so stunned seeing Karathress go down that I forgot to take a screenshot in time), but you can see that the boss is down and he still has his raidbuffs and the 12 seconds where noone died.

way back in pre-tbc days we had actually captured a fraps of a shaman ankhing and killing Ouro with a frost shock. It was gold. =( my first dung heap I don't make a habit of these things. I just thought it was odd to see that on the WoW frontpage.
