My wife is rolling up a new hunter, and I've yet to find any information on what's better regarding choices in ranged weapons.

I know for melee weapons, certain classes want faster weapons for various reasons, and certain classes want as slow a weapon as possible, to increase PPM, get humongous crits, etc. So for a ranged weapon, what is better, a faster weapon, a slower weapon, or one that provides more tooltip DPS? (this is not taking into account any addition to stats, I know those open up a whole new can of worms.)
