In response to the title, not understanding the underlined message, I leave my messenger on all the time just in case someone needs to get a hold of me that can not operate a phone. Of course I do not leave it at DND, but rather away or N/A.

Most people know that I keep in regular contact with know that I leave my phone on 24/7, but some are too shy to call or do not have textual messaging so they send me an IM. It really depends on the situation... but I have friends that send IMs as opposed to calling and leaving it on is for them.
