I've just started tanking in my offspec and one of the first things I've noticed is that I'm having ugly mana issues. I've just added the Divine Plea glyph to my set after reading here, so I'll see how that works out, but still...are there other considerations regarding mana regen outside of that one glyph, using BoS, and using JoW?

Also, the one thing that I haven't seen in this discussion is basic technique besides "rotation." There has to be more to pally tanking than just running into a mob and spamming your rotation. What are you looking for during the fight? What considerations have to be made to maintain threat outside of just gear and powers? What's the quickest thing to do if you lose threat and control of your mob to keep from wiping the party?

Perhaps I missed something and if I did, if somebody would be so kind to link me the answer, I'd appreciate it. Especially if it's a "tanking for noobs" post.

Greetings, since this is my first time to post i just wanna say thanks to all the rogue players for giving there best on giving us resources.. I read up most of your post and builds for combat arp rogue with 20/51/0 talents and i followed but unfotunately im sad to say that my dps failed. I was really embarrassed when assasinn dagger rogues have overpowered me when they have lower GS than me. I was doing alot of expirement but i havent maximized out my dps.. My rotations are 5ss>Snd>5ss>Evis>5ss>evis and then return to the beginning once snd is down.. i really havent figured out the problem with my dps.. =(

Lockout extension system

We've been discussing the posibility of extending the lockout this week. We're trying LK10 heroic and have some people unable to attend untill thursday so we were wondering how the extension works with limited tries.

If we extend the lockout, go on thursday with the extended lockout, not kill the LK and use our tries, will we be able to close the extension and do a fresh run on the same day? Has anyone tryed anything of the sort.

Glyphs?

So I am a level 80 lock that has switched specs alot. and I finally decided that I am going to stick with Demonology spec. My main question is what are good glyphs to have. I have been told serveral different things, I am about to pull out my hair. Do you have any info that you can share with me on this?

Kragshot - what kind of content are you tanking with your offset?
When I hit the daily random heroic in my ICC tanky gear I also have mana issues as I'm just not taking enough damage for Spiritual Attunement to top me up. (I'm only specced 1/2 in it which doesn't help). That's with using BoSanc and judging Wisdom too.
A couple of things to make life easier - if your other spec is Ret, use a set for heroics where your arse is just barely scraping along uncrittable. Throw up Ret aura rather than Devo too. Your healer will have to work a bit more (IE actually do some work rather than sleeping or throwing DPS) but you won't have mana issues. If you do, just drop Consecrate out of the rotation.

If a mob somehow comes off you, you have two taunts, a stun (two if it's undead) and a snare working for you.

It might sound like a 'nowhere' answer but I find threat really isn't much of an issue. Once I whack something a couple of times, get my stacks up if I'm using SoV, that boss is stuck to me like glue. My main focus tends to be on raid awareness and survivability most of the time - is there a tank switch coming up? Have several healers just got taken out of the fight prompting a cooldown use? Does anyone need cleansing or a Hand spell for whatever reason? Are my melee pack stood in DnD? For easier content - if I have this pack firmly on me, can I get the next one to speed things along?
And of course, at the same time as thinking all of that plus keeping the basic rotation going - can I abuse any death knights over TeamSpeak for any reason? This is the mark of a great pally tank

So, wait a minute...you're telling me that the problem is that I'm too well-geared on my offspec? LOL...that's interesting (as I do have some items of higher-end gear from ICC and ToC). So, what you are saying is that I should scale down the gear I'm wearing seeing as I'm not doing any major tanking at this point (trying out regulars and low-end heroics), until I'm ready to start running with the big dogs.

Beyond the above valuable advice, is the only thing left is to just get out there and do it? I'll be honest. I've tried twice so far. The first time ended in a total wipe which got me kicked and the second time, while some of the people in the group were understanding about me being new to tanking, others just kept quitting, which ended with the dungeon run taking forever. I'm not too chickenshit to not try again; I just want to try to stack the deck in my favor, so I can get better with each run.

Being well-geared shouldn't be a problem. Sure it reduces the amount of healing you need, which again reduces spiritual attunement mana gains, but better gear (ie. higher avoidance and block) also increases your mana gains from BoSanc, and lets you pull more trash. Unless you're already dying to packs of mobs regularly, one of the easiest ways to deal with mana issues is getting more angry NPCs to beat on, and hopefully miss you.

That, judging wisdom and trying to keep divine plea ticking (ie. push forward so you can attack something new before DP wears off, or wait with a new pull until it's close to cool down) should take care of your mana, if you still run out, drop consecrate from your rotation temporarily. I also carry mana potions, they're not necessary but can save your rear if you screwed up and end up OOM and with DP on cooldown in the middle of a freshly spawned pack of mobs.

To stack the deck in your favour, read and understand the resources available here and on Maintankadin, gear accordingly, set up your UI so you can easily do your 969 rotation and reach utility spells, practice rotations on a dummy, and learn or review tactics for bosses and trash. But to learn "tank awareness" you'll have to go out and do it, even if it means you wipe due to tank errors a few times, or people die during the first runs because you're still getting the hang of helping your party with taunts, salv or HoP.

Everyone always coming to Zathras with problems. Great responsibilities. But Zathras does not mind. Zathras trained in crisis management.

But that's all moot since Evis rotations and ArP stacking are obsolete since 3.3.3... You want to replace Glyph of Evis with Glyph of Rupture and move your Imp Evis points into 3/3 Ruthlessness and 2/2 Blood Spatter. Your new rotation should be: Start SnD quickly however/5pt Rupture/3pt SnD/5pt Rupt/3pt SnD/etc..... as you can, work in 3 or 4pt Evis for extra dps (procs from Glyph of SS will sometimes make this possible).

With your current gear, your best bet is to regem Agi and Agi/Haste rather than AP. And if you're going to use a Nightmare Tear, put it in your boots so you get that extra 2 agi.

Also, you're losing a lot of dps with those professions. Herbing does absolutely nothing for you and Alch isn't as good as JC, Eng, or BS for rogues. At least replace Herbing with JC, if not Alch with Eng or BS.

And you can do better than that Banner trinket. You look capable of getting badge gear; get the Mark of Supremacy or run FoS for Needle trink . . . ultimately you should go for better ones of course, but those are fast fixes.

All that said, if you armory me, you'll see I'm not practicing the gemming I'm preaching, but I'm also teaching full-time, so the overhaul I need is still in progress.

ok ill try to restack my gems and talents... ill let you know if this will work out... thanks =)

So I see at the later end of T10 gear haste is more dps per stat point than spell power... I'm curious as to at approximately what point is it more beneficial to begin gemming pure haste if that is even the case.

Combat - ruprure?

Hey JERKS! hehehe
i was just wondering why ppl now days use rupture as a part of their rotation!
ive seen members of paragon use it + glyphing + speccing in it.
Can anyone tell me why, and how i should use it in my rotation, like if i should use that as finishing move, or i should always make it be up etc!
How will my rotation look if i use rupture in it??

If you are running out of mana in 5man content, you are not pulling fast enough. Plain and simple. Keep DP up and you will have no issues. If there is a long run between pulls, whack a roach or rat to keep it up. Trying to increase the damage you take to get more from SA is a foolish thing to do and slows you down (making the healer spend more mana) which is the opposite of what you want. If you want to change gear for 5mans, shift to a more Str and BV heavy set which gives you more damage and more snap agro, but never get rid of mitigation and avoidance for the purpose of taking more damage.
