Honestly the only reason I'm posting here is because I'm trying to figure out how you claim to clock a 1s CGD with 678 haste.
Anyway, it's verifiable for every spell with every class that a haste factor of X modifies the duration of spells and attack cooldowns by 1/(1+X), not by (1-X).
e: never mind, your edit shows 1.044 in the screenshot, not "1.002" as you said pre-edit, and this is exactly correct for 658 haste. So you were just posting stuff you hadn't yet tested for no reason.

Didn't I just prove that?
I proved that to get to 1 sec gcd (which is 1.044) you need 678 haste. THAT is the CAP.
Nevermind, keep your extra .02 sec of gcd (cause wow, you will know the difference) and way more haste.

Hey all, first time posting on elitist. I had one question after reading over some of the threads posted here, and thought may be someone could help me in some form or another. I just started raiding, and I went combat, right now I'm looking at how to 'properly' gem my gear. I've been looking at a couple of armories as well, and I see a lot of rogues going full into ArPen. I have a friend saying that I should exceed soft cap (720).. not saying I'm not taking his advice just in need of more of a second opinion. Most of the rogues on armory are well above 1k ArPen, and I was wondering if I should be doing the same thing? Or, not to go above 720 (I'm not sure if buffs are saved within the armory, and if thats why there ArPen is so high). Should I be aiming for more exp and hit rating? Right now I'm very new to the combat tree for the rogues, I'm finding it some what more enjoyable then being mutilate, would love to know how I should gem my gear properly. Thanks for any advice you may provide.
EDIT: Also I just changed my t9 BP into Knightbane's Carapace which has 3 sockets (red, blue, yellow) this is the main reason I am asking this specific question cause this alone puts me at 717 ArPen without buffs.

Hi all.
My hunter reached 80. 2 weeks ago now and have been specced SV for the whole time. I have taken a lot of time reading the forums, and using the web based spreadsheet, and there´s something that I don´t understand.
By switching from SV to MM having only 22% ArPen, I gain 3xx DPS on the worst case. I was under the impression that
SV should be pulling ahead for an entry lvl gear (2850 score) and given the low ArPen I have. Could this be due to piercing shots? having such a high crit rate on MM (56.29 unbuffed, >57% as soon as I get DMC:G) + T9x2 (**EDIT: found the answer on a post above** "PS is just a straight 30% bonus damage on every steady/chimera/aimed that crits") makes it the only reason I can find myself for this DPS increase from switching.

Well min maxing is good, but you can also carry it to far, if you start worrying about 1/10 of a seconds (latency of 100ms / or dipping below gcd) then I find its going to far. You have latency on all your spells not only on the 1second ones.
Dipping below 1second cast isn't that bad if its for a small portion of the fight.
Ok you'll do less dps then what your actually capable of, but it wont break you or kill you.
If the boss survives and kills you all on the bit of dmg that you missed those 20 seconds well thats just freaking bad luck, but generally wont really happen you know.
Normally 1-2 big nukes will be the same as that 0.1 or 0.2 per second you loose that you could be dpsing for like 20 seconds -> 20 times 0.2 = 4 seconds = 2 spells and a tad under normal conditions.
ok lets consider something that will never happen, 25 mages on a boss with all a 0.1 sec under gcd cap = 25 spells that could be casted -> lets say they would have all been 20k dmg thats 500k dmg your missing thats like 1/100th of a bosses health that has 50kk health which isn't uncommon in icc.
The only bad thing about beeing under 1sec cast is that its harder to keep chain casting, cause the sweet spot to press your button gets really narrow but with practice and playing this game for a few months (or 4-5 years if you started in vanilla) you should really not have a problem with that.
Don't get me wrong min maxing is good and trying to get better and do more dmg is cool, but the topic of gcd lockout or not has been milked, drank, milked again, recycled and then milked again, while its such a small dps boost your missing, all the thinking and writing about it isn't compared to the effect dipping below gcd cap actually has.
The thought process about it is also interesting, but our nifty little brain cells could be used on better things I think, can't come up with anything atm, but there wil be something out there.
ps: I need something to do while working and while I was reading I thought MMM why care about 0.1 seconds thats silly, so thats why I replied in this way, I do love EJ for all the insights I got in playing my mage and getting better by tips and programs (rawr / addons) I found on here, so keep up the good work, but on less sillier things then 0.1 gcd lockout / ms or what not ^^

Well, Deep Wounds relies on how much you crit and how these crits are spread over time. The only way to have any kind of control over this is to have 100% crit rate, otherwise it is purely based on luck.

It seem that while most of the quests require 25 player mode, the Feast of a Thousand Souls specifies that kills on both 10 and 25 player will count, and there doesn't seem to be a specification at all for The Lich King's Last Stand. This is supported by many claiming to have received credit on 10 player difficulty.
My question is: Does the Sealed Chest itself drop from LK 10 if you have the quest active, or will only a 25 player kill yield the flavor items? Are those receiving credit on 10man ticketing GM's for their Sealed Chest?

So yeah I'm a mutilate rogue, my gears pretty decent.. But I'm having a hard time doing the same dps that my spreadsheets say I should be doing... I think this is a problem with my rotation, so I'd like to ask some situational questions.. Actually, I'll post what I use, and feel free to correct me
How I usually open-
garrote- hunger for blood - slice and dice - mutilate - envenom
I do this regardless of if there's a bleed on the target or not
How I vanish for overkill -
I energy pool till I'm at nearly capped energy
vanish- ambush- mutilate - tricks of the trade - envenom
I have these moves set in a sequence on my bar so this is done pretty quickly
My normal rotation -
Mutilate - If I have 3 combo points + I'll envenom
- if I have 2 combo points I'll mutilate again and coldblood/envenom or I'll rupture and hunger for blood if its starting to get low
if I'm at 5 stacks of DP I energy pool
also here's my gear - The World of Warcraft Armory - Gonnamurk @ Andorhal - Profile
Let me know if there's anything drastically wrong

The "size" of your deep wounds ticks are not directly indicative of doing more damage. If say over a 30 second period you land 5 crits in the first 10 seconds and none for the remaining 20 seconds, your ticks are going to be large because consecutive crits roll back any remaining damage from the previous crit into the next one. However, the total damage done would be exactly the same if you had landed those 5 crits at 6 second intervals over the 30 second period.
So say your first DW procs for 3000 total damage. The first tick happens and it hits for 500. You then crit again and the second proc is added to the first, and the timer resets. So now you have 5500 total bleed damage remaining, and your first tick would hit for ~920. Then you crit again and the third proc is added. You know have ~7600 bleed damage remaining, and the first tick will land for ~1250. The ticks will continue to build as long as you continue to land critical strikes before the DW proc runs its full course.

Sorry if this is already answered, but I'm not gonna sift through 111 pages to see.
So for the 4 piece tier 9 bonus, the one that allows blood plague to now crit, does it inherit your spell crit chance or melee crit chance? I'm thinking spell but I want to double check.

Hi, I have a question and possible theory for players wanting to maximise DPS, particularly in hard modes.
As many of you are already aware; most hard-modes contain a lot of movement (Festergut comes to mind and Marrowgar etc). I was wondering if anyone has yet tested the possibility of switiching between Bizuri's Totem of Shattered Ice and Totem of Hex midfight.
Firstly, I am aware that switching between relics causes players to get a 1 second GCD. Secondly, I am also aware that the haste buff from the 264 relic grants 220 haste for 30 seconds.
Now, 30 seconds is a long time, and considering our flame shock is ticking faster than ever it seems that some serious testing should be done for the possible DPS benefits of maximising Lightning Bolt damage in that 24-26 second window where a switch back to the 264 relic would be necessary in order to maintain the haste buff.
Considering the 1 second GCD, it would seem natural to change relic while moving. Bonestorm and other such abilities would provide the window in order to try this method.
So here are my main questions to amateur and serious spreadsheet users/theorycrafters/general Elemental shamans.
1. Has anyone reading this tested this method?
2. Does the 264 relic buff overwrite any other relic that is being used by the Shaman regardless of the buff that relic offers?
3. Is the 2 seconds lost through totem switching regained from the 165 damage increase to Lightning bolts - particularly on stand alone fights?

A couple of days ago, I was Swapping some gear around in Landsouls Spreadsheet
and noticed something. My theoretical dps actually went up with dual mongoose on
both my weapons, instead of the dual berserking i have now. It went up by around 50dps,
so that got me thinking if anyone else has seen such an observation and when mongoose
can rate higher than berserking. I was considering swtiching to dual mongoose but
was curious if anyone else has tried it first.
