The glyph isn't taken for the duration increase. Its taken because the glyph doesn't change the tick value and just adds an additional 2 ticks to SrS. By that value, SrS is increased in total damage done by 40%. Chimera Shot - Serpent deals 40% of the total damage that SrS does. If your increasing SrS's total damage through the glyph, then your also increasing the total damage that Chimera Shot - Serpent does.
Example:
You apply a 5000 damage Serpent Sting on the target over 15s. This gives you a 5 x 1000 damage per 3 second tick rate. Chimera Shot - Serpent deals 40% of 5000 or 2000 damage.
Take the same serpent sting and add the glyph to it. You now have a 7000 damage Serpent Sting on the target over 21s or a 7 x 1000 damage per 3 seconds tick rate. Chimera Shot - Serpent deals 40% of 7000 or 2800 damage, an increase of 40% damage.
The glyph of SrS increases the damage of Chimera Shot - Serpent by 40%.
