Simple Death Knight Tank Question! (spec)

I am new to this forum and I have been reading around. I have looked at the tank thread. My spec question is this.
IT Threat Spec
This is my spec. I like it because you get..
1. 2% more mitigation.
2. Increased auto attack speed for Rune Strike.
3. A massive amount of threat from critical ITs.
Is this spec good or no? Am i just gimping myself?

That's interesting. I wish i'd gotten into the beta so i could try out the mana thing myself. I find that i can quite easily OOM just now if i dont have a decent group. So it would have been nice to see how awkward healing would be while having to concentrate on my mana at all times. I conserve my mana at the best of times !

As I am levelling a prot warrior I decided to check this thread out. I think it would be beneficial to also include some sort of "levelling as a tank" guide. This could show people what is vital to tanking as they go through the stages of levelling. Obviously not everyone looking at this thread will have all of the abilities stated depending on what stage of levelling they are at.

When WG'ing the raid before a pull, it definitely never goes on the tank I target unless he's missing health.

What are peoples thoughts on Fire for Halion?

On our Heroic Halion attempts I found myself doing more overall damage as arcane, but needed to be a lot closer to the boss at the same time which can cause problems with meteor crashes. AoE damage for adds was low as well since they dont live long enough for a full LB and Fire doesnt buff Blizzard as much as Arcane would. Also my gear as Arcane is better than my Fire set, even though I changed all gems of shared pieces to 12SP+10Crit or 12SP+1-Spirit.

I haven't checked to see if any of the adds or boss himself have any fire resistance, but I highly doubt they do.

Wondering if anyone else is having trouble building up some good numbers on Halion Heroic.

Went Fire on normal mode and did much better without having to AoE down adds and without staying inside the portal in phase 3.

There is always two sides to this story.
Let's say I have 10,000hp and I get hit for 2000 per hit with a 6000 crit.
If I get critted first and then hit twice I am dead.
Let's now say i have 8,000hp with same rules but better avoidance.
If I get critted, avoid the second hit and take the third i am dead.

I lasted the same length of time but being able to avoid a strike means i don't need as much health.

Obviously this is only basic math but it gets the point across.

Made a similar post in the Fire post, but what are peoples' thoughts, spec-wise for Halion in Ruby Sanctum.

If we consider overall dps as top priority rather than dps strictly on Halion, I would say Arcane is better just because Blizzard hits harder with Arcane. During phase 1 when adds need to be AoE'd down, I find spamming Blizzard once or twice will produce more overall damage then Fire spec can. Also, Arcanes shorter range does make Firey Combustion easier to place as you should be closer to the bosses tail than a Fire mage.

Phase 2 I found that Arcane was penalized heavily while avoiding the giant X of laser beams and produced very little, however if you save Presence of Mind and maybe a haste CD you should be able to get a couple casts off everytime you stop.

Phase 3 is what makes or breaks your overall dps in my opinion. Range should always go out, while melee stays in, which allows range to cast freely and not worry about lasers. As I have not seen phase 3 on Heroic I can't comment on my dps...

Overall I would say Arcane for heroic mode for quick burst dps and AoE, but 100% Fire for normal mode, as there are no adds, and a lot more moving.

What are others' thoughts?

"The Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) macros in this workbook are corrupted and have been deleted. The macro corruption most likely exists in the current file. To recover the macros, open a backup copy of this file if you have one."

When I open WarriorDPS2.602cExcel97.xls, I'm told "This workbook has lost its VBA project, ActiveX controls and any other programmability-related features."
It looks like the problem was that I didn't have "Visual Basic for Applications" installed with my copy of Excel. Getting that component installed has allowed me to open the 07 spreadsheet successfully.

BiS trinkets?

I've been reading a lot on this thread and I don't think that I've seen this said, for the trinkets and bis, is that only for a blood sub spec, i.e., does Herkmul War Token have more value then DBW and Sharpened Twilight's Scale if you're sub spec is frost since haste has such a greater value then arp? So, if I were to get Sharpened Twilight Scale, what would be the best combo of trinkets to use of the three?

The proc is what gives DBW and Sharpened Scale its value the base stat has lower value. So I would not think Herkmul war token will outvalue it. You will have to run your own numbers on a simulator but I highly doubt it.

The random rune which comes of CD by the talent Runic Empowerement doesn't really help that much.
I have to say without the "home" of my default UI with all addons, it was really hard to tank blackrock caverns.

Icy Touch says in the description that it does a very hight amount of threat in Frost Presence, dunno if that is only a typo, but it didn't feel like the aggro machine like it is on the live servers.

I definetily will need some time to get to used to the rune system, especially if you want to keep up bone shield as much as you can.
Honestly in my personal opinion DnD just flat out has too long a cooldown. The uptime isn't the problem, but the cooldown is, and in light of the change they made to consecrate I'm hoping they intend to bring DnD's uptime up to where you don't have a massive period of minimal aoe threat if you ever have to move after dropping DnD.

It'd be nice if DnD was a 15 second cooldown baseline, but it'd be even nicer if it was at least 10 dur 10 cd for the sake of fights where you have a continual stream of adds. Similarly to how warriors have issues because thunderclap has a cooldown. Although TC's cooldown is at least very very short.

I love how no one talks on this thread anymore :P

Do we not have questions about the DPSWarr model?

You should all know that the next version of Rawr3 posted here on EJ is going to have SIGNIFICANT improvements in both the base UI of Rawr3 and DPSWarr itself, we even have full control over the Boss Handler now!

Come see the Rawr Project for all World of Warcraft Classes and Specs!
