The 3 specs have always been equal (well maybe swords had the edge pre-wotlk). The only thing affecting what combat weapons spec you choose should be what weapons you can get your hands on.
They did slap on some haste but they've removed it again. Maces didn't need a buff, it needed some decent maces.
Combat daggers is lagging way behind other builds. Mainly due to positioning, and the fact that most encounters dont allow you to be behind the boss 100% of the time. Bosses like Thadius , for instance, you're the same charge as the tank and now your forced to use sinister strike to build combo's. Lets face it, SS with a dagger is basicly futile. Durring that time the average combat dagger rogue see's a major drop in dps/damage, untill he can get behind the target once again , backstabing. My thought was to add a talent , deep enough in the combat tree to avoid PVP use, that gives say 10/20 % more damage on SS with a dagger equipped in the MH . SS with a dagger still wouldnt be as powerfull as backstab, but atleast it would close the gap up a bit when a combat dagger rogue is forced into a frontal attack position.
Again , this was just a random idea, any other thoughts on this ?
I am wondering which of those items has the best ratio of materials needed to create it and what you get when disenchanting it, rather creating a rare lvl 75 item vs the lvl 73 one.
Hi guys, I've read a part of this topic, trying to understand how the patch will affect rogues pve dps with talents and glyphs.
Do someone has any suggestion on spec (expecially for assassination builds, but also for combat) and on glyph's set up for the incoming 3.1 patch?
For example, I think that the new "Master poisoner" and the new "Lightining reflex" can change the (optimal since 3.1) 51/13/7 spec, with combat I think we will have no problems, will be enougth using 3/3 Lightining reflex instead of endurace, improved sprint or improved kick.
Another great change will come from glyphs I think: assassination build will probably gain the glyph of mutilate and of hbf, and for combat they will add the killing spree's glyph right? And also blizz will add the fan of knives glyph...
What do you think about it? Whitch do you think will be the best spec/glyphs configuration for pve dps?
Thank you guys, bye.
Anyone who has used squak and awe, disqodice, have seen the potential in a system to queue you into what spell you should be casting in a priority based cast system. Makes it much easier to juggle fluid rotations.
note: Im not the author!
The boots are BiS if you can use the hit rating, and I can use the hit rating since 0/56/15 doesnt have hit talents.
The helm and chest would definitely be a downgrade for demonic pact purposes. Even if those pieces were to prove a DPS increase over 4xT7, they'd be a raid dps decrease.
Cloak, Ring, Trinket and Belt do need upgrades though. However probably more importantly, on PTR I don't have the turning tide or the surplus limb.
[edit]
It's more than that, even the worst totem (Searing totem) does 400 DPS, fire elemental totem does 600+ dps or more (900) when combined with heroism through it's uptime and Magma totem can do ~900 if there is something to be aoe'd.
BiS here really depends on what you're going for. You only NEED (8 or) 9% hit for a Demonic Pact build (this hit caps the felguard). Yes more ups your personal dps but you're already gimping your personal dps by 400 or so speccing Demonic Pact so you may as well push your spell power up as much as possible.
I'm not arguing that Demonic Pact can't push ToW off the board and I'm not arguing the uptime numbers. When full demo specced and not even close to BiS gear (for full Demo or otherwise) I push ToW off when raid buffed once Illustration is fully procced.
But I still don't see how it's scaling with 30% of our spirit. The numbers you pulled from the PTR don't support that (it only supports that 4xt7 based spirit is scaling) and until someone reports otherwise on these boards the spell power gained from the Life Tap Glyph doesn't appear to be scaling either (according to bug reports on the WoW forums).

It does and his numbers DO support this. Try for yourself if you don't believe it, but don't keep on posting what "you think might be true" if it has been proven otherwise.
You're right about the Glyph of Life Tap though, it still doesn't work.
Also do these calculations take into account partial resists from level-based boss resistance? And is Chaos Bolt not affected by level-based resistance?
I have always joked about smite-bots, and have been know to do my fair share of dps whilst healing on my priest. So finally I have decided to take the plunge. I finally thought to give it a try because of all my constant swapping back and forth between shadow and holy has made my gear a mish-mash of both. (pre-wrath it was my understanding that +dmg and mp5 on gear were the road blocks).
These are the specs i'm tossing around, haven't been able to test them yet to see how they fair and which is essentially superior.
Spec two would incorperate more shadow dmg with tossing SW:P and sw into the mix. I haven't actually come upon a rotation for either, though I think the second would be the same as the old standard HF > SW:P > Smite > SW > smite > smite ..... and working devouring plague in there somewhere aswell.
I leveled up enchanting today to 410 to get the 19 SP to rings. As I hit about 375 the thoguht of the epic gems did cross my mind, which made me think that if Blizzard doesn't buff enchants and other professions else then a JC/BS would be the way to go. However, even if they don't buff the other professions, the difference should only be maybe 12 spell power (assuming 25 spellpower gems), and only a gain of 8 spell power with blacksmithing if they go with 23 spell power gems? That is jsut my estimate right now. Personally I don't think it will make too much of a difference as to whether enchanting or blacksmithing paired with jewelcrafting is better except in the wallet. I think blacksmiths can edge out enchanting at being able to make a little more money with less effort.
I decided that I wanted to go unholy for DPS. After reading and talking to many people on spec and gear I finally got into some decent pre raid gear... its still coming along but its okay. And I used the spec given in this thread.. I am using the standard rotation
PS-IT-BS-BS-SS-Dump
SS-SS-SS-Dumb
using IT, SS, and ghoul gylphs along with Horn of winter, raise dead, and pestilence.
if you want to armory me to find more info on gear and what not search MoonieDk on gorg.
on the boss dummy I cant even break 2k dps.... I have no idea why.
my questions are..
What presence should I be in?
Should I use a different rotation?
If you have taken a couple of minutes to read the last few pages you would have realised that this is no place for basic questions. If you need help with basic thing, since you are a new dk, try here: Death Knight: Simple Questions/Simple Answers , you will have more luck there.
Fact is, changing one blue trinket for another is very unlikely to ever do anything substantial to your DPS, and when you are talking about the two best blue trinkets for Ele, then the difference is very small indeed.
I would still use Mark of the War Prisoner, as assuming its on use is worth ~30 spellpower less than the Forge Ember's procc then its still a pretty good deal. Thats without going into the various pros and cons of on-use vs. procc trinkets.
The gain would be minimal. You would probably get more of a stat boost by simply rearranging your gems so you are hitting a better socket bonus than the dreadful one on the T7 chest, and you aren't 11 points over the hit cap.
:P i didint gem the chest to get the socket bonus, it just kinda ended up that way when i was looking for something i could put my 27 hit gem into that i wouldn't replace for a long time. thanks for your response i'll shoot for the war prisoner... i actually had the trinket a few months ago but vendored it =/ not sure why.
Now that we are getting close to the release of 3.1 (assuming that it will be release on the 14th of april), whats the conclusion of all the data gathered so far?
1. Best Combat spec (with best glyphs)?
2. Best Mutilate spec (with glyphs)?
Of course its hard to say what are the BiS items as we still have around 50% of the loot not listed so no point in asking for BiS items for the both specs.
Hi,
did anyone already do some maths on the EP-Values regarding patch 3.1?
Since haste and armor pen rating gets buffed, it would be nice to know if there are some items, which get way better then they are at the moment, e.g. [Boots of the Great Construct] vs [Boots of the Renewed Flight]
