Testing on a dummy on the PTR is not enough. We have to test the new specs in real raid environments and that will likely not be done until 4.0.1 finally hit live servers (next week normally).
If you want you can still check this thread : http://elitistjerks.com/f78/t105387-...sheet_4_0_1_a/
However, for now, combat and assassination seem to be pretty much *equal* (thanks to my own experience on the beta server).

I just logged onto the PTR to check that, yes it seems like it's only the PVP Gem Vendor, the one in Dalaran is selling pure color gems for 220JP and mixed color for 110JP.

Since we have so many cooldowns, do you think we should use a cooldown rotation so we almost always have one up?

Proper DPS start off for shadow priest
So my guild mates and I were discussing the proper start off rotation. Which one do you think is correct?
#1) MFx2 (get shadow weaving to 5 stacks), VT, DP, SW:P, spam MF while keeping DoTs up
#2) VT, DP, SW:P (you'll have 3 stacks of shadow weaving) spam MF while keeping DoTs up
or is there one which is betterer?
Thanks so much.

My theory as far as stats are concerned there will only be two usable playstyles;
Crit, Spirit
versus
healing mastery, spirit
i noticed many arguments stating that healing mastery will be the stat to use, but from what i can tell this is all prior to hots being able to crit, and the removal of all crit talents from the resto tree
as im not on the ptr there isnt much i can do besides ask the opinion of others on this forum and to test it out themselves in the lvl 85 raiding world as well as in pvp circumstances, people tend to devalue crit becuase there is already so much of it given now, but i believe that through A.A procs and mana regen and the fact that our crit rating will be extremely low in cat. that crit may be more important than healing mastery which only works through direct heals.

After spending bout an hour on the test dummy, I feel I have a good handle on the rotation. I how was using just lvl 85 premade gear with no glyphs and was sitting around 8.6k for the entire time. I had a few questions about the priority rotation that you have used in EJ post.My damage break down was 26 percent SS, 24 percent melee, and 17 percent death coil. I figured this must be wrong as you had pointed out that ghoul should be number 2 damage source, I then looked, and yes 25 percent of dmg was from ghould. Does this break down with what you were expecting ? It would appear the for all intents and purposes blood strike is useless for us? Another question would be should we horde RP when Dark Transforamation is about to run out so as to try and get about 3 dcs of quicly and maximize its up time. Another question I had would be conerning buffs and festering strike when we add time to current diseases with Festering Strike do they recieve new buff perhaps from 4 piece t11 or any other proced buff we may have recieved? Also had question on Dark Sac, can we use it on friendly players or only hostile entities, this of course harks back to stealing say shadow aura or windfury? And lastly does Dark Transformation ghoul gain stats if applied, for instance is it better to use unholy frenzy then dark trans and then garg or would unholy frenzy carry over from lil ghoul?

This is more of a 4.0 and leveling thing, but has anyone done any calculation on what the Heroic Twilight Scale will be in terms of dps once armor pen is removed?

Speaking of items, as somebody who wasn't lucky enough to get into the beta, how're they doing on itemizing all of the dungeons/heroics? Has anybody compiled all of the goodies into a complete list so we can see what we're looking at in terms of pre-raid gear? I know cata.wowhead and db.mmo-champion have some of the items but they're not complete. MMO had the Justice gear listed on their main page a while ago, and I was thinking it'd be nice to have an idea of what to aim for first (which heroics are most beneficial to be run, what's worthwhile to craft first and spend our banked JP on, things of that nature).

VT DP MF SW:P will get you a 5 stack shadow-weaving SW:P. There's no reason to ever SW:P before a MF when you don't have 5 SW.

2) Ideal rotation (like:
1) Critical mass maintenance (Via Scorch if required)

4) FFB DoT stacking to 3 and refreshing if casting a Fireball would cause it to drop off
5) Fireball
from Zaldinar's post)
3) Glyphs to look out for, what will change, what will stay?
4) Will reforging matter? Do we want mastery stat more than crit/haste pre-85?
These are the ones that I could think of right now but if we can add something like this to the OP it would be amazing.

Sinless, I wholeheartedly concur with this idea. There are several mages I know who are currently extremely worried about the upcoming patch. For me, it opens the door to prepare for new content, but I would also appreciate some clarification on the relative benefits of mastery pre-85.

Multispec in 4.0.1 and beyond -
Currently I run with Mutilate for Instance/Raids and Shadowdance for PVP/dailies.
I also use my Mutilate spec for prolonged fight scenarios (e.g. grinding rep in ZG or seeking that elusive deathcharger in Stratholm-undead).
Both specs based on daggers since best non-daggers I have are iLvl 232.
Reviewing the commentary in EJ, am I correct that we're about to see an inversion in DPS between Subt & Assassin?
In 3.3.5, Subt is great for burst/control but pretty terrible when it comes to prolonged fights - and beyond terrible if you have to fight enemies facing you.
Am I right that with current numbers I'd be smart to switch up my current practice?
Run with Subt for instances/raids, but do PVP/dailies with Mutilate?
BTW - is the smart money on Combat? (i.e. should I be aggressively chasing Axes/Swords/Maces?) or is Combat going to be the new red-headed stepchild spec?
