Hi guys, i just respecced Unholy from Frost tank spec, Currently just in a 10man raiding guild and pretty casual -- We have started putting together some 25man Naxx/OS just for abit of fun on the weekends. i understand that the single target threat is lower then frost and just have a couple of questions about the general rules of tanking:

First about my character:
Blightt Armory Link As of Tuesday 7th of April
Glyphs - Major - SS, bone Shield, dnd -- Minor - Horn, Pest, Raise dead
FROST PRES w/ Horn:
31500 HP
560 DEF
28k Armor or 65% Migration
56.61 Avoidance.
27.54 % Dodge
18.66% Parry

194 Hit or 5.92%
14 Expertise or 3.50%

Generally i get up to about 38k-40k HP buffed in a 10man and about 68-70% Avoid with Blade Bar etc.

Questions:
1. How much is to much avoidance, Currently i have just been aiming for solid Avoidance, is it time to tone it down abit an go for straight stam gems?
2. Should i change my spec around abit, atm I am currently OTing, however the MT is wanting to go Ret when Ulduar comes out in which case I will be replacing him. Is there a better spec for MTing?
3. Currently i am only pulling about 1.8-2k DPS, this is doing about 4k-5k TPS depending on when rune strike is going off (Spikes when it hits) Current Rotation is Dnd, IT, PS, Pest. SS SS SS Pest whenever needed for AOE. -- IT, PS, SS, BS BS, SS SS replacing diseases when needed. (Have SS glyph) -- Should i be doing more and is there a better rotation or both single and aoe tanking.
4. Unholy or Frost tanking. Both before and after patch.

I don't know if im doing it wrong or not but ive been trying to model short dps times like 90 seconds of DPS then a break for either moving or new target or what have you because that's what usually happens in an actual fight and i think it would play more in the favor of deep destro.
The problem im having though is i change the max_time in the batch file and it doesn't change it properly on the end .txt file but some specs do have lower dps times. Its odd

I've been playing my healing priestress for more than 3 years as my main character, through all PvE content in BC and WotLK. I'm also usually "healers leader" and always participating to the loot assignement decisions. Here is my personal point of view concerning the comparison between "needs" on this BiS trinket both for dps and healers.

Yes it hurts for a healer to pass for a dps, but yes I really think it is the best option for the guild to give this trinket to a dps instead of a healer (assuming the dps player is not a casual player). Why ? Because of overhealing. Having more spellpower for a healer can both be a really good thing or nearly useless depending on the situation: useful when your healing target is taking really heavy damage (MT in Sartha3D-10 is the only case I can think about in WotLK before Ulduar), useless for many fights since when your are geared appropriately your heals nearly always top your target's hp with a little overhealing. Whereas for a dps caster class, more spellpower is never a waste, since there is no "overdps" (until the boss is dead obviously). For this reason I really think that the Illustration of the Dragonsoul should be given in priority to a faithful dps of a PvE guild.

My priestress is disc-specced which means before patch 3.1 that spellpower is really really important for me, but I've passed on this BiS for 2 SP and a Warlock.
So I agree with Viper, and the reason is that item is a 100%BiS for a dps, and a <100%BiS for healers. Maybe we should create a new term instead of BiS ? cBiS for conditionnal BiS or casual BiS ?

(just to clarify, for healer readers: I am NOT saying that it should never fall into the hands of a healer. I just gave some hints to choose. Maybe in Ulduar you will need a single healer with an incredible powerheal, you never know... oh and yes I do know that overhealing is somewhat useful for some healing class since it can give some extra buffs to the caster, but I think that these buffs are not so good -they exist just to prevent the overhealing to be a total waste-, and more importantly that a decently well geared healer is already overhealing)

Curious...

I noticed in the sim that both 41/30 and 40/31 specs have Fel Armor but show the same SP as affliction. Is imp. Fel Armor being included in this sim, and if so, is it scaling the way it should with the FG?

Then how would one take these numbers as being an accurate calculation of actual dps? I question this because of the boost the imp and FG get from improved Fel Armor itself. It's a fairly decent amount, compared to that of 53/0/18 which does not have this taken into account.

Sorry if I am out of line here, but I'm new to the whole "SIMCRAFT" deal and am just trying to understand exactly what I am seeing before I start running SIMS of my own.

It tells you "this is the gear that was used for this simulation", it does not say "these were the full talented and buffed stats the player had during the simulation". All buffs and talents are accounted for.

We have begun 3- and 4-manning heroics in Northrend with Brew Meisters. It is certainly difficult to 3-man the upper dungeons (Occulus, Utgarde Pinnacle, Halls of Stone, etc). To be technically correct, we still have 5 guys in the battle, but we take 3 or 4 well-geared members in, and the 1 or 2 poorly geared guys are alts of guild members. This way, we are able to gear up our alts easier than setting up full runs and progression. I suppose it is similar to using 80s to run low-level alts through low-level instances. It has certainly helped us gear up secondary healers and tanks, which can be a pain to gear.

For those twink lovers. Checkout the timbermaw herbpouch offhand thingy. Doesnt have levelrequirement but does heal quite a nice amount. Great for a priest twink in example. Ask a friend's help and you can get it done.

HIT RATING - Under or over Max

I am under the 17% cap and Recount tells me that I am not missing any targets.

Is there any point in maxing Hit when you are not missing targets?

My affl mate insists his DPS has gone up since going over the Hit Cap.

Is increasing Hit over the cap of any benefit - I'm guessing NO

Hello guys. First time poster here but I've been following this thread for several months. I'm just curious as too what off set pieces we might want to pick up and swap stuff around too keep the 4pc T7. I know up above Method mentioned that using the Plated Leggings of Ruination since they were BiS. But until we can get those is there anything worth getting too swap out gloves,chest,etc. Any info would be great. Thanks guys.

I seem to remember reading a thread about "PTR Class DPS", linking logs and all sorts of charts with regards to current PTR dps, on Uludar encounters. I can't seem to remember where I read it though, it was either here or on the WoW US forums somewhere... anyone know what I'm talking about?

I recently switched to 0/55/16, and can't seem to find a rotation better than any other.. i seem to do the same dps wether i use CoD/coor/imm/spam SB, or if i use SB all the time(going meta before both). which is about 3400dps or so with my currentgear..

could someone look at my character and my gear and give me some tips on what gear to look out for,and what is better then what i have now??

Alright well I am pretty new to elemental shaman and dont really know how to gem/enchant my items. I am a JCer so I have access to the JCers gems I am assuming i should use all 3 SP ones? I am also stuck on waht to do about a meta gem what do most of you guys use? And then for the rest of my Red/blue slots.

As for enchanting should I be getting some haste enchants as well as spell power? Seems to me like that would be the best is. I appreate any help.

Your meta should be Chaotic Skyflare Diamond, there is NO other option, end of story. Your gems should be 19 spellpower if you're hit capped (263 for your Draenei shaman) or 16 hit if you're not capped. Your JC gems (spellpower ones) should be used in blue slots to get desired gem bonuses, preferably spellpower or hit (and if those aren't available, haste).

So, in essence:

hit until roughly 263 > spellpower > haste. Ignore crit, you don't need anymore than you'll easily get anyway.

In other news: drop your totem. Seriously, my heart pains when I see people use that piece of crap. Go to Venture Bay (grizzly hills) and get a blue totem (boost to lava burst) doing the dailies there or at the very least get someone to boost you in Mechanaar. Hell, even the level 70 haste totem is better than what you're currently using. Yes, that item is THAT bad.
