Amazing.... Patch 4.0 live and this forum still hasn't got it's shit together. I'm not surprised at all since most of the decent posts here seem to get deleted, censured or suppressed including the most absurd threats and allegations to do so by PM.
It has been predicted and now it's a reallity: RIP Elitist Jerks is to Elite for itself.
PD: you can ban my account you little fucknuts and stick it up your moms ass as far as I'm concerned.
After doing rot/fester through sindra tonight I'm a little frustrated with the new spec. It's a lot of fun on trash spreading dots but impact seems like it's always up when I don't need it and never up when I do. Since they've based so much of the spec around DOTs I find it pretty frustrating that such a fundamental aoe damage ability depends on RNG.
The new LB is very frustrating. I clipped most of my casts tonight, partly just from not being used to it and partly from an unfamiliar mod setup. The spell queueing mechanic also seems different or broken making it really hard to pull off a HS pyro if you're a little laggy at the time. And HS pyro is broken in that you can't cast it while moving. All of this added up to a very frustrating night with me sitting around where I was before in DPS on the single target fights while moonkins seemed to be consistently ~6k dps higher than prepatch.
Looking at what I can change, I think my crit took too big of a dip from the spirit and molten armor changes. The mages I've seen on WoL had pyroblast as their second highest damage spell while mine was consistently LB. But with the extra hit that's now needed it's not obvious how to increase my crit percentage through gemming and reforging.
I think this will be an interesting time as more testing and more math comes together. The potential for this tree is pretty high depending on how encounters in Cata are designed, but for the fights I did tonight where there is not much AOE I'm a little disappointed.

This is the beginning of the 4.0.1 will be updated when cata hits.
Your filler points are the three in Enveloping Shadows. They could go in cheat death if it is not still affected by resilience. The way it is worded I do not think it is. Either way cheat death happens every minute. Where Enveloping shadows makes feint last 9 seconds on a 10 second cool down which reduces all AoE by 50%, to me that sounds like better survival. Players call on that one.
Correction on Enveloping Shadows, IT is not a filler. Diffinately get that. 30% normal AoE reduction toped with feint 50% AoE reduction. Provides the best survivability from AoE dmg. On Heroic Rotface I stood in the middle of falling oozes popped feint and took almost no damage from it. Couple people in raid asked me how I lived through that and standing in fires on Morragar and Blood Queen tonight.
Energy Regeneration right now is Relentless Strikes and Energetic Recovery. If you have done ICC enough to get a Heartpierce that is also your main hand weapon of choice for the energy regen proc.
Heartpierce = 4 energy per 2 seconds for 12 seconds (heroic)
Energetic Recovery = 12 energy per 3 seconds
Relentless Strikes = 25 energy on a 20% chance per combo point
Rotation will be to keep up Slice n Dice, Recuperate, and Eviscerate. Don’t forget to throw up hemorrhage, which is now on a 1 minute cool down. Glyphed it also adds its own bleed effect.
Rupture needs to be applied once and then it should be refreshed by doing Eviscerates.
(Like how Slice and Dice works for mutilate)
Do not use an ability once you hit 4 combo points go ahead and use your finishing move to dump those. You do not want waste combo points, you may even luck out and have a Honor Among Thieves proc just before giving you 5 combo points for that finisher. Reason you should hit the finisher at 4 points is also because of that you do not want Honor Among Thieves to proc and also have wasted energy on using your ability and not get the combo point from it.
Side notes – Glyphing for Hemorrhage for the bleed is a good way to also have a back up bleed on target incase for some reason you let rupture fall off. This allows you to keep the Sanguinary Vein 10% damage buff up. Course by the way it reads if you are in a raid and any bleed works this is a moot point due to most melee having bleed effects.
Honor among thieves gives the raid 5% critical chance. For you it also acts as a Seal Fate every 2 seconds….. From anyone in your party/raid critical strikes (not just your own). Soloing this does work off your own critical strikes as well.
Use Shadow dance every minute and vanish when you can to take advantage of the Find Weakness from your ambushes and garrotes.
At the moment I did not put points in to the Premeditation or Preparation talents. I see these as pvp talents. But that extra point from the spec above may be best in Premeditation
An idea for glyphs to use for Sub PvE Spec
Hemorrhage – Adds a bleed dealing 40% of the that direct strike’s damage over 24 seconds. This means you should hemorrhage at every 24 seconds to keep this glyph bleed and refresh the minute effect of hemorrhage up at all times.
Backstab – your back stab critical hits return 5 energy, making this 40 energy move a 35 energy making this your main spam attack. This also gets better once you reach level 85 when you can spec down into Puncturing Wounds that adds 30% chance to crit on backstab.
Rupture – Increase rupture time by 4 seconds. I tried SnD and ran into trouble keeping up rupture in the rotation. Use this glyph to have some extra time to refresh it with eviscerate when you are trying to refresh recup and SnD around the same time. Helps a lot.
CANCELLED Slice N Dice – 3 seconds to SnD. I am using this one for the moment to give a little room for keeping up eviscerates and recuperate.
Fan of Knives – extend FoK by 5 yards. Good for trash, spread those poisons farther.
Cloak of shadows – reduce physical damage by 40%. INCASE YOU DO PULL AGGRO. Seems like a nice save from targets that don’t just use magic.
Blind – Removes all damage over time effects. Incase we do have to CC mobs in the expansion, unlike Naxx.
Minor – your choice. Best three are blurred speed, poisons, safe fall.
After the first Night
After the first night of real raid testing here are some things I learned.
Glyph of Hemorrhage – I got around an 8k hit and it said it was ticking for 360 damage per tick, remember that is the number before all of your dps modifiers. In raid fully buffed normal tick for around 800 crit around 1600.
This buff on target will change each time you hit Hemorrhage. So if you got a good crit on mob don’t spam it again. And do not focus on spam it till you do get a good one that would be a waste. The glyph is there for a little something extra.
Remember to read all your skills since patch. I noticed tonight that Shadow Step only affects your NEXT AMBUSH. Not your next offensive special like it use to.
Rotation and Open. Still in question at the moment.
First finisher should be recuperate. More energy uptime faster you get out the rest of your moves.
To work in Shadow dance. Make sure you have 2 or less combo points and enough energy/ energy regen to go into it 60%+ should be good.
2 combo points shadow dance, shadow step, Ambush, Evis, ambushx2, Evis/maybe a garrote in there for more bleed dmg.(still looking at numbers for this) this allows you to go into shadow dance and not waste a combo point from your Honor Among Thieves proc every 2 seconds.
This may be due to the learning curve of using this spec, but I noticed the dmg started out slow, but once you get a good rhythm going the damage starts rolling out. In raid I was 8th on dps meter and rose to second place when I didn’t miss a beat.
BUGS – In a fight with more than one boss there is a chance that your combo points may drop off your current target and end up on a different one. This can really cut into your dps. Lets hope blizzard fix this soon.
More details the more I play with it…… The Spec I mean
i must say that at first i was fearful that druid tanks were still in the toilet. but after i got my addons back in business i found that swipe, even though now with a cooldown is OP. the dmg is at leas 3x what it used to be. my aoe tanking even without thorns is second to none. even with my mediocre 5300 gs i still have 51k health unbuffed and plenty of mitigation with savage defense procing all the time. Druid tanks are back in business!!!
my rotation that seems to be working is FFF, mangle, (wait for all mobs to be in range of swipe) swipe, macroed lacerate with maulx3, mangle, swipe
you can tab between targets to apply more lacerates if needed but with glyphed maul you shouldnt need to as often as before. Use swipe every cooldown on aoe pulls (duh!!)
the suggestion was to simply reforge the highest stat, since you will get more mastery out of the highest stat.
For me this was pretty much always crit, since a lot of items that used to be arp+crit now have heaps of crit on them.
When I was playing last night, before the suggestions were posted here, I stopped reforging crit after it dropped below 50% and started just doing haste, but I guess I'll go back and reforge again (I still have a few more agi+crit and agi+haste gems to replace yet too).
Lets say your Player A, and one of your party members is Player B. Both of you have Different targets. Player A gets 4 points on lets say the Boss, and Player B crits on his different target, which then puts a Combo point onto that target instead of yours. Which then erases Player A's target points.
Been playing WoW for awile now and I still dont understand why Blizz doesnt add Combo points onto YOU, not adds. This would also get rid of having to use the skill Redirect.
Becuase rogues have stuns, therefore Blizzard will not allow us the same simplicity and smoothness all other classes enjoy in both pvp and pve. Planned switching with burst or control(aka depth) is only an option for non rogues, nevermind the fact that it unjustly handicaps pve rogues. It's an outdated concept from back when top geared clothies ran around in 2-2k5 hp. The fact that many other classes burst more then rogues, and several classes have comparable control is willfully ignored.
Needed Improved Howl of Terror to move down the tree- if Soul Burn SoC were available at that level I would've taken it. Like I notced however, optional talents are optional, feel free to move those around.
@ Vo1os: I never considered that, and am also on a EU server- so I can't test it. Interesting question however.
I would move those points into Jinx instead, mass CoE on all targets
Let's say you are still below the hit cap.
With the current "alpha"(because not enough data is available yet) guide here -
Would you sacrifice 2x 20 Agi gems for 1x 10agi/10hit and 1x 10agi/10crit only to get the 8 agi socket bonus.
Do you think it is worth it?
What if you are already hitcapped?
Second tough decision, and I guess this information will be available soon, but I'd appreciate any suggestions -
It is unclear if mastery is quite as viable as, say, crit and haste. But - Which of the latter two stats do you prefer to Reforge into Mastery?
Crit, because of the insane amounts we got on because after the arp -> crit conversion?
Or haste, because it is not as highly valued as crit, as suggested by the OP?
You gain some crit back from all the agi gems you will be socketing now. Based on the RSV of Mastery vs Crit and Haste and the fact that you can reach crit soft cap, I'd say it is safe to reforge all crit you have to mastery. Maybe reforge haste rating on few items if it is significantly higher than crit on that item.
