Hoping that will change come next PTR --> Live shift ( with the incoming "buffs" ).
Or at least become more "up in the air" like before ...

Obviously not sure if this will make it to live or not - but effects your whole basis for Reforging quite a bit :

What is the hit cap that I'm going for? Is it the 8% melee hit rating, or the 17% spell hit rating (for diseases, DC and what not)?

The main post just says we should go for the hit cap, and it doesn't specify which one. Thanks
I initially (and admittedly) rolled my eyes at this a bit because I know at one point the information was in there (under "Basic Combat Mechanics" with a blurb about @ 85 and @ 80). However, it's since been removed and is, in fact, buried and only mentioned in passing in the "Best in Slot" section.

Speaking of, as I'm sure it will come up - Yes, this set is hit capped. Remember that hit conversion ratio changed in the patch, meaning you only need 246 rating. Between Precision to gloves, which is the best enchant budget wise for the slot, and Icewalker, which one may as well take since runspeed is compeltely unnecessary seeing as how our main dps presence is now Unholy, you're good to go.
Since 4.0.1 changed the way in which ratings are converted to a raw percentage, you want 246 hit to be melee (normal/white & crit) capped and 17% spell hit cap. Same as always, just the number value itself has changed.

Also, expertise 'cap' is now 23 @ 80 until you hit 85, where it once again returns to 26.

@Consider - perhaps this information could once again return to the OP, given its heavy (current) focus on 4.0.1 & pre-Cata mechanics, until Dec 07? A simple suggestion since, now being the time for re-rolls/etc., there is likely to be a greater influx of questions that could be addressed clearly.

I would think is melee hit cap, 8%. Staking spell hit all the way to 17% (I think that’s the spell hit cap) would take a lot from other, better, stats.

Speaking of caps, I know that the haste cap depends on the fights, but right now I’m up to 33.97% haste. Is there a point I should stop staking haste and go straight strength? Right now I have a couple of Haste/Strength gems on my gear but I not sure if I should switch them with strength ones, the strength ones switch them to Haste/Str or stay how I am.
Any thoughts?

Any chance of getting most of this thread split off and archived since the better part of 116 pages is now completely outdated.

lvl 80 stat caps

Generic 80 Suggestion

At 80 it is recommended to Hit Cap, then Expertise Cap, then aim for the Haste soft cap. Haste beyond this soft cap will only affect autoattack and becomes less valuable than Crit.

Thus Hit > Exp > Str > Haste/Crit > Mastery under hit/exp cap.
Str > Haste/Crit > Mastery above hit/exp cap.
First off great work in generating all this info but can someone please provide me with providing some stat cap values for level 80?

thanks

CL: 4544 dmg/1.07 sec cast = 4247 dps

But I'm reading all over the place that CL should not be used for single target DPS. Elemental focus (+10% spell damage procs) should affect both these spells at the same rate. But, after trying this myself and other shamans trying a LB + CL rotation on a training dummy, it results in lower DPS than CL spam.

What mechanic am I missing that makes LB better than CL? I saw a post in my research saying that Elemental overload chance for CL is less, is this what I'm missing?

The Chain Lightning cooldown is at least one thing missing from your thinking as it is written above. Also, on a target dummy, you will almost certainly get jumps which wouldn't occur if there was only one target.

Is there a new BiS list out for Mutilate? I've seen speculation about dropping Ikfirus' because of the stam, but without a Mut spreadsheet it's a lot more work to check combinations. Was wondering if anyone had taken it on yet.

This might have been asked and answered but with the new race combinations for warlocks in Cataclysm which Horde race would be the optimal one to be for raiding?

This happens with a premade char full 359 items. Combat reforged crit to haste and hit, Mutilate reforged crit to haste and mastery.
I was under the impression this thread was about the current build that is live, not Cata. This is probably more of something you want to post in the Cata thread, not here.

So here I was, brand new to the 4.0 patch and loggin in to my bear druid. With the new change to armor pen and defence I was anxious to see what it did to my char. I'll pass the comments on the health because that is really trival this late in the expansion but I'll try to focus a bit more on our (bear druid) avoidance.

So I was trying to calculate how much this savage defence really helps me avoid stuff. And it got me thinking, how do we really get savage defence? It is only from (latest ingame patch) non-periodical crits and only from 50% of those. So basicly, to avoid more we need to crit more!

There I went with the auto-attack table to try to see how we get some more of those delicous crits and then it hit me.
With the new change to most pieces of armor, it having the same stamina as tank gear. We were just degraded...
As a special tanking class, a druid with a mix/match of tank and feral gear. To a "rogue" (feral cat)..
Because all the stats we want now are basicly dps stats, Hit / Expertise / Agi.
Keeping in mind the reply a bit earlyer in this post we are supposed to wear agi jewels in our slots. I feel like our special place as a Tank has been compromised. We are now a feral cat/rogue that is able to tank.

Don't get me wrong it is a great change for the game. But for me as player if feel a bit degraded, put to the side, im just now a physical dps no longer a tank..

Have the scale factors been looked at if you are lower than the 1406 haste soft cap point?
The scale factors at 1413 haste are listed as crit and mastery having significantly higher value than haste. I would like to know if the only reason for that is because you're 1406+ haste.
Basically, Is haste's value higher than mastery and crit before 1406.

I'm levelling a Holy paladin. Should I stick with plate (to get the bonus) or stick with the superior Intellect items? (I'm level 65 currently.

Thank you.
