Has anyone done any testing to see if the AI on searing totem has been improved with the range changes? If so, can you articulate your observations?
It also seems to me that gemming for all spellpower bonuses now makes sense. For example, I gemmed +20 spirit on T10 shoulders for +5 sp bonus. That allows me to reforge 20 spirit less, which will now be reforged mastery. So all things being equal to the hit cap, I end up with 20 mastery for a 15 spellpower tradeoff, which seems like a good idea given we have no itemized mastery on any of our gear at the moment. At 85, it will be a question of what sp is worth in relation to mastery. It would have to be 33% better in order to make sense gemming intellect instead in that case.
Also, maybe a word on theorycrafting in cata. To my way of thinking, when you had a finite number of choices with respect to gear, particularly about what could even be considered BIS, it was almost a binary decision. It's this or that. I have seen many instances when using the spreadsheets that when adding a new, clearly better item actually resulted in one of the stat's weight going down. So when this happened, it obviously occured as a result of a stat weight being pushed to a level where marginally, it was worth less. Kind of a diminishing return. Sometimes, the stat weight would go back up after hitting a higher threshold in that stat, and almost always, the stat increased in value in terms of dps as your other stats increased.
With the reforging option, there are now an infinite number of combinations with respect to gemming and reforging your gear. Has anyone put any thought into a spreadsheet that helps in optimizing stats? Not one that just tells you what x or y stat is worth in this setup, but one that helps optimize your choices? Of course, I would be happy with one that merely replaced what we had. Any sense of when there might be another model in the community?
