It seems that there are two major issues with fire in cataclysm, which are currently discussed:

1. The mana issue
2. That it's much less fun to play than fire at 80

The first point can be simply addressed by changing the manacost of Fireball or by changing MoE, as has been mentioned in previous posts. The second point is strongly related to low combat ratings at 85 entry level gear, especially crit rating. In such a world, crit based proc mechanics seem outdated anyway. A big part of why frost is by many beta players regarded as "more fun" is that it's procs are based on fixed percent, so it will feel the same on all levels of gear. The numbers will just grow.

In the following I want to make suggestions how important fire talents could be changed to drop the crit dependence of fire:

Ignite:

15% chance for all fire spells (direct damage that is) to leave a dot on the target doing 100% of the spells damage over 6 secs. Proc chance is low enough to prevent constant overwriting from multiple procs. Damage gained would be similar to current ignite with 37.5% (0.4*0.375=0.15) crit.

Hot streak:

Flat X% chance to proc on any direct fire damage, similar to fingers of frost.

Master of elements:

Y% chance on any non periodic fire damage to restore Z% of maximum mana.

Additional suggestions not directly related to the issues mentioned above:

- Buff Fireblast damage to make Impact impact procc really useful on single targets

Pyromaniac:

In addition to its current effect it also grants the haste buff after the use of Pyroblast!, similar to t10 setbonus. If the numbers of hot streak and pyromaniac are adjusted properly, fishing for HS procs using scorch and casting FB during haste buff would provide us with a straight forward way to incorporate scorch into our rotation in case the mana issue isn't fixed otherwise.

little help

as this thread has the label surviving and I`m currentlly dying I`ve come here for some help as there may be intelligent folk around who could assist me in a small problem, Currently healing LK Heroic as a Holy Priest with a disc priest (the other team is disc and druid) I`ve streamlined my healing and worked on it to conserve Mana and have finally got to the stage where going into stage 3 I have around 25k mana, This will allow me some flexibility in healing the throne room, I`m currently using chakra renews, CoH, PoM and oly Nova in a sometimes frantic way as Im not used to avoiding AOE and moving whilst healing. The tactic we use is to group up and move as a group in a circle around avoiding the bombs, can anyone suggest a more efficient way to heal this room? as by this point my shadowfiend, both of our prayers (both types) and my Bloodelf racial and my trinket are used up. so yes any thoughts?

I have 36k mana raid buffed, 1101 haste, 3/3 darkness.

metrik on EU khagdar is my char if looking at that could assist you.

Was considering regemming a touch for more int as we generally have the 5% buff, yet I`d want to keep 6 ticks on my renews.

Reforging

My personal general observations about the secondary stats and some synergies:

1) Haste increases throughput but decreases mana efficiency. Haste has litte affect when paired with Mastery since the shields rewrite if new one is bigger and don't stack. Haste paired with crit will cause more crits since you're casting more spells. Haste paired with Spirit will offset some of the mana inefficiency.

2) Crit increases throughput but since it is random and uncontrollable it might increase overheal. Crit has no effect on mana in Cataclysm. So Crit and Spirit don't really synergize with each other. Crit paired with haste will cause more crits due to more spells. Crit seems most powerful paired with Mastery, causing bigger shields and absorbing noticeable amounts. Assuming 15% shield (7 pts of mastery) a 7k heal will leave a 1050 damage shield which isn't much with 150k health pools. But a 30k crit will leave a 4500 damage shield, which can be a decent chunk of a melee hit on a tank.

3) Spirit is our one and only mana regen stat now, but I haven't seen too much math on how much spirit a pally will reasonably need at 85. Spirit is more of a stand alone stat, helping offset Haste inefficiency but having no direct effect on Crit or Mastery.

4) Mastery is a nice little perk but not something that will make me change how I heal just to benefit from it since the shields overwrite and don't stack. (ie I will not stop casting just to let the shield be taken off by damage before casting another heal.) As mentioned in the previous points, it has no direct connection to Spirit, is ok with Haste if damage is quick coming, and can make significant shields if stacked with Crit.

So with that basic breakdown, what should we be reforging to? Most if not all of our gear is going to come with Spirit now, but how much is too much Spirit? Will be typically reforge Spirit to something else? Are we going to be stumbling over that much mana? At first glimpse, Crit paired with Mastery looks to cause noticeable damage reduction on top of our strong single target HPS. I personally think that Spirit remains the unknown unproven stat that we might underestimate since we haven't had to use it at all until this point. So my initial plan is to leave Spirit as it is and reforge Haste to Crit until 25-30% Crit before shifting to Mastery. As soon as I see I have no mana issues when paired with Replinishment and buffs/flasks/food then I won't hesitate to send Spirit to the wind as well.

My first signifcant post here so any feedback, thoughts, flaws in my logic are much appreciated.

1, 2 & 4) Read the first post much ?

3) No. Spirit is not the only regen stat. It's in fact the secondary regen stat.
The most amount of regen will come from stacking int, and getting the replenishment effect. This is 'active' regen, Since it will only happen while combat is ongoing and the replenishment effect is being applied.

Spirit is passive regen and is combined with your intellect to determine how much regen you get:
Spirit Regen = Sqrt(Intellect) * Spirit *.016725 (I might be off on the ratio there, haven't brushed up on holy since a few weeks).

From an iLevel perspective, there is an optimum between int and spi to get the most out of spirit regen, but intel is still king because of replenishment effects and divine plea and because more intel gives you a higher initial manapool (and some crit).

Need Some Guidance for Warrior Tanking in 4.x

Hello, I play a fury warrior, and am very pleased with my DPS numbers, and (in the past) I've found myself to be very good at Single-Target Tanking. However, in the interest of improving my usefulness to my guild, I would like to improve my Multi-Target tanking.

The information that I'm mainly looking for would be:

Talents and Glyphs - I think that what I've got set up is workable, but any advice would be helpful

Dodge and Parry - Where should these numbers be?

Gemming - Assuming that my dodge and parry are in a proper range, should I continue to gem for stamina?

Enchants - I've gotten a lot of conflicting information as to what works best.

And Rotation - I've always used Shield Slam, Cleave, Thunderclap and Shockwave as my primary attacks, and Taunt, Mocking Blow and Challenging Shout to help keep threat.

If anyone could give me some feedback it would be greatly appreciated.

I know this will be irrelevant in a few weeks but I would appreciate it if someone could confirm or deny this for me. My guild is 12/12 icc10hm and I will not being running 25's anymore. I went mutilate with 4.0.1 with 264 heartpierce and 264 Lungbreaker at my disposal. Since 4.0.1 hit and the EP values of AGI and AP changed, im guessing Heartpierce is no longer my best option and that H bloodsipper or H Stormfury would be substantial upgrades as opposed to the comparable "side"grades they were before 4.0.1 according to my spreadsheet math. Does this seem accurate, or is proc/energy regen of the heartpierce still worth that much?

Some people keep saying it's a dps loss to cast chaosbolt during backdraft. But is that actually true? They claim that hasted incinerates have a higher DPCT therefore you have to use the 3x backdraft procs for incinerate and cast chaosbolt afterwards.

This doesn't make any sense to me. Does anyone have a clear explenation on this matter?

Altar of Storms
The best investment I can offer, to all yall not up in the realm I am, that being altar of storms... (don't want any new competitors now ). Is to get the addon Auctioneer, and get a large data of scans of the auctionhouse associated to your characters personal data, i do beleive infact thereare ways uploading data if you dont have the time to get in 3-5 scans in aweek.. I personally scan every day and can proudly say that I have the abillity to not only mouseover any object in the game, white, green, blue or purple... and within that mousover i can read the calculated average being that it has been (seen sold) on the auctionhouse in a TOOLTIP but also I am able to compare my calculated price to that of the going "wowhead" price however relavent that may be.. I am an accountant in real life and I have to admit my addiction to the return of playing this game was slightly correlated to the accessabillity of all the gold that has been created within the game w/in the later expansions... I still remember lvl 60 back in the day yo, when it cost 1000g to have an epic 100% mount... that was "cool" back in the day... now... the economy varies from server to server but is obviously FLOODED with the shine of gold... (Being that this is my second post, i would really appreciate yall not dinging my points this time) Since hell.. im here to socialize amongst yall wow buds not be dinged fora floggin, <3... but for all yall who want to make money... to supply your stock of whatever it is for this upcoming season/expansion to the game.. work that Apraisor tab, u will love the abillity to search "resale" for items being sold on the auctionhouse daily, items being sold by infact the very ignorent players who dont know how valuable some of the shit they sell is! Every 12 hour period that goes by, for instance when i log in upon home from the college to see my guild... I pull about 10 pages of them symbolized "Scroll icon" each containg some odd amount of gold from 0-300 and I tuck that away witha good smile.. resale baby.. U aint needing anything but that appraisor and the data from da scans inorder to be receiving accurate prices.. Another tequnique, upon making upwards of 40k, (I play on a small server so i pretty much control at least 1/4 of my servers AH, its only 1800 accounts on the alliance and horde) another tequnique is search resale by highest price to lowest and look at the profit associated to the items listen for <20 gold, if u starting out try <5g buy everythink, with the EASY of the appraisor tab u can just go down the list of whats in your bags going post post post post... ect ect and its all imput within the AH.. easy 5 minutes to empty all 22 slot bags and YA DUN SUN! make thaat money, stack them billz, do ya thang pimpin, i see over 70k gold a week, I am the leader of probably one of the first economic interest guilds created, i teach all my guildmates how to be rich, and my alt guildbank has ... capppppp gold send me a mail for more tips ingame on Altar of Storms -Wardawg or my username on this site u can send a message to the handy little in box... again admin, please DONT FLAG ME, i want to be apart of yalls community, I REMEMBER when this guild firsst started! I played with yall! Be EZ -nate

What about this talent build and incinerate filler instead of SB for demo ?

So if we take in condition, that immo is refreshed with HoG and inci is filler - we release 3 talents from "bane". We have less damage from the filler itself, but:
1. Inci cast -0.25
2. => more Impending doom procs
3. 20% Immo
4. 4% corruption damage
5. More benefit from inci glyph
^ Will these have a chance to beat the difference between SB and icni DPCT at high amounts of sp ?

Disadvantages:
1. Manacost
2. In case when immo is not refreshed by HoG - 2 sec immo cast
3. Less benefit from SP than SB

If you read the first post of the thread it shows that DV >= HWT. That's in a fight with 100% uptime for Herkuml. If you're doing a fight like Putricide, Sindy or LK where your HWT stack can fall off DV will be miles ahead.
