I was talking about end game BiS set. Apart from heroic 372 gear it appears the PvP 365 gear outpaces all dropped 359 epics.

Thanks for the guide, a lot of good information here but I still question the spec used here as well as on SimCraft. Sure the spec generates more DPS through a Patchwerk style fight where you would gain mana back through Mana Feed and allowing you to tap less, but every single fight so far in Cata has not been a Patchwerk style iteration and tapping to get mana while moving, etc is a lot better and easier than to spend points in worthless talents such as Fel Synergy (though admittedly nice on fights where the pet takes a decent amount of damage) and Mana Feed, plus shooting off Fel Flames to refresh Immolate.
A spec like this: WoW Talent Calculator - Sigrie. seems like it would be more beneficial, no?

That's exactly what is available. Power Torrent > Hurricane > old enchant in order of cost and power.

Cooldowns are nonexistant. Combustion is unfortunately a joke in it its current state. Granted there are some things that you can do to try and guarantee your target is "combustion ready" and that impact is up at the same time, but it is still too much RNG.
Overall there needs to be more control. Gear may help with this issue as we all get better stats and crit percentage in general, but for now it is an issue.

With cataclysm fire spec I had a lot of crying at nights. I am serios. I've been playing mage since vanilla till now. 4.0.1 was a joke to us. OP Arc mage, blizz said it will scale with level 85 well when we all hit the level. We all did hit the level, gear up a bit and all I see topping meters are warlocks with hunters (hunters, omg! Weren't they only for MD back in the day?).
I compared my stats to the very different people from worldoflogs. On many fights i was doing really low dps. Yesterday on Al'akir 25m i was doing from 10 to 12k dps at the end of p1 as frost and fire in some tries. This lack of HS procs makes me just wants to kill myself. The worst thing is people starting to point out how mages were op in 4.0.1 with 1 button and totally forgetting how it was BEFORE that patch. I compared some chars with mine that did a lot more dps on other figts and their gear is worst than mine at that point. I don't think i'm doing anything wrong with my play style(I think at least). Crit dependency is really, really bad. As other classes can easily sit on flat stats. Also, many other class on aoe encoutners don't end it with almost being oom as we mages now. The only good solution is also switching armors for each single or aoe targets but thats still now how it should be.
This is not QQ post, but just a statement that mage is truly broken in cata and this scaling as blues said didn't happen well for us. Frost is nice but it's still far from the other classes. On that Al'akir fight once on 1 try i was in frost. Crited a lot, even was in top5-8 for at least 40s and they just going down, and down... but still dpsing as i was before. (no bloodlust or any other thing at those first 40s). Mage now is like.. You crit, you win. You don't you're tank dps.. :/

Using Exemplar's stat weights, would it be safe to say that the 359 plate tank boots from WildHammer rep provide better DPS than any 346 DPS boots?
[Gryphon Rider's Boots]
as compared to
[Waywatcher's Boots]
my rough math says that the difference in value of the gear with relative to str, and assuming hit and exp cap has been met is:
48 + (159 * .06) + (139 * .4 * .12) - (150 * .12) - (130 * .11) = +31.912
so the Gryphon Rider's are a DPS gain equivalent to 31 more str. even if my math is off by a bit, these boots should be a DPS increase, and are much easier upgrade to get than any 359 plate DPS boots. Also, i believe that they will still be better if compared to [Greaves of Wu the Elder]

My impressions as a very new mage:
Killing two sets of Magmaw's ads takes half of my mana bar and just when he's down and taking more damage and I'm supposed to burn, I have to scorch in order to be ready for the next wave of ads. That truly is frustrating. However, I don't feel the class is broken or anything like that. It's true that we're doing less dps than some others, especially hunters and warlocks, but I happen to top the meters every once in a while too.
Seriously, I played a warrior (several warriors, actually) for four years and went through exactly this problem many times. Gear difference between having no rage for a heroic strike and filling all your main hand attacks with heroic strikes was about one tier. Rage was worse, with mana I can at least plan ahead.

Still happening! It's possible there's some random factor unintentionally granting the 11th tick, but if so, I certainly can't narrow it down. Whenever I specifically test it, I get 11 (or 16 glyphed). Who knows. I would be quite interested in any logs to the contrary.

Odd. I tested it yesterday, and I saw 10 ticks. I tested it 5 times just now and saw 11.

Regarding the usefulness of the talent "On a a pale Horse": From what i understood, any riding speed talents any class can spec into do not stack with the guild bonus everyone should have by now. So it's only 10%. I prefer the free interrupt by far (maybe because i'm only doing heroic dungeons at the moment and there's lots to kick). And that's not only because of not wanting to lose the 20 RP that could be spent on dps, but because of the times when i had to kick some ability but didn't have the 20 RP. - Which of cause could have been avoided if i had payed attention and saved the 20 RP all the time - but you started the "for convenience reasons" thing.

Just throwing this out there, but, in testing on the dummy in pre-raid gear...there was about a 1200 dps difference in using the succubus vs. felhunter in favor of the succubus. Granted, this is sbolt spec, but, fel hunter was landing me 7100dps and succubus was landing 8300 dps. Will this change as i get into raid gear? I'd be interested to know what other people are seeing.
