With the nerfing of caster weapons, FT damage, and FT scaling, the value of Mastery looks to be ready to tank. Previously the Mastery was affecting about 65% of my dps (because of the number of spells and strength of FT). When I stop using a caster MH and FT on the MH I suspect to lose close to 2500-3k spell power.

Should we after the patch go for a full reversal and reforge all mastery into crit/hit?

With WF hitting 3x now, might we even try WF/WF again?

I have try combat on PTR with premade char (better gear than my) but i didint get better numbers than my assa on live.
Q: Will combat beat asaa in 4.0.6? (overall) or not?

• Fiery Apocalypse (Mastery) benefit from mastery increased by approximately 8%.

be a big enough bump to take a look at the haste>crit>mastery decision for gemming and reforging? And does the 8% refer to uptime or damage?

I also would suspect the value of mastery to drop some with these changes to FT but we probably will have to wait for a sim update to know for sure if reforging crit>mastery is really worth it.

As for going WF/WF wouldn't the WF proc from the OH be less dmg cause of the OH penalty? I read earlier that FT now hits for the same amount in either MH or OH but I have not seen nor tested if WF does/doesn't on the PTR or live.

Mastery was simming as the best stat for me even when I was using WF/ft at the beginning of cata, so I doubt that will change. I imagine the only significant gearing difference will be that there will no longer be gear levels where it is best to leave expertise uncapped and reforge to mastery instead due to the windfury on mainhand which will be a large portion of our damage. Also, I highly highly doubt we will ever return to WF/WF because of lava lash. As of right now it hits like an absolute truck for me, and I find it hard to believe it will be worth it to switch from flametongue on offhand for that reason. As with everything, it will need to be simmed once it is ready, those are just my educated guesses.

I'm curious if I am the only boomkin having mana issues in mostly heroic level gear (non-AoE fights)? I'm using the standard rotation, glyphs and talent spec on EJ but it just seems like I blow through my mana so much faster than most other classes. Anything obvious I could be missing? Does just having better gear make it a non-issue?

You can't just simply do 5 minute dps trials with the same behavior but different gear and compare them. To be able to make any conclusions about something as marginal as secondary stat selection you must do at least dozens of these tests with extremely controlled behavior, and record them with miscellaneous notes such as: "rotation felt very smooth and correct and was consistent throughout the entirety of the test. Was able to stack X and Y cooldown at time Z for about T seconds." Each trial can be worlds different. Only certain trials are fair to be compared with each other. There are so many variables that throw off readable correlation. For example: different rage lulls at different times, different enrage and flurry uptimes, different positioning of enrage effects with relaiton to the RB cooldown, varying periods of rage surplus with relation to the CS cooldown and random trinket procs and landslide etc, noticable variance of successes of crits on varying abilities, and the list goes on.

A conclusion is only as good as the experiment performed to reach that conclusion.
While this is all true, I should at least be able to pull off higher dps on PTR vs Live using the same gear/stats given the buffs/nerfs we receive, shouldn't I?

Since there is nothing added for BEST NON HEROIC EPIC Gear....

Can someone say what it is?? I can figure out is the same but non heroic xD.... Still, if someone can tell us would be very nice

I do not think this will be the case for a while, due to the fact that at this gear level 2H Unholy will not favor that much expertise. I could be mistaken of course due to reforging and such but I imagine there will be some different choices between the two specs until expertise catches up in importance w Unholy.

Assuming you are Hit Capd what are the two best trinkets for a fire mage? The link of the first page seems to be a little out of whack considering it has heroic trinkets ranked lower than non heroic.

Hi Mozark.

I took a look at your gear and spec today. Here are some things you need to change:

1) take the cloth gear off and replace with leather. You're missing 5% int bonus from leather specialization.
2) you need to reforge
3) Most of your gear doesn't have spirit
4) your balance spec is missing "earth and moon"
5) you'd probably be better off switching out the star surge glyph for insect swarm

I would highly recommend that you review this in detail to get back on the right track.
