Poor wording on my part to say "exponential" since they don't scale with themselves. I did mention that them being percentage-based was one of the reasons they gain ground, but in retrospect that's also poor wording since they're still linear too. The reason they gain value is because of raising other stats, just as you mentioned.
One could say that raising two or more stats at once would cause "exponential" scaling relative to only increasing one stat because the overall effect is greater and gets increasingly larger the more stats are increased. In practice it doesn't always work out like that because some stats just aren't as valuable as others. 200 Strength most definitely beats 100 Strength and 100 Haste right now. 200 Haste may or may not beat 100 Haste and 100 Mastery though. It all depends on how much more valuable each stat makes the others.
