Yeah that's great, time to level some other class I guess. Looks like they've decided if you want to raid as a rogue you have to do so as assassination or do quite a bit less damage. Some choice. I hate assassination. Ugh! So much for brining us up to par with assassination single target dps.
What do you consider "up to par"? What, for you, is an acceptable level of DPS difference on single-target fights between the specs?
We're already in a situation where all three specs, if played optimally, are close enough to one another in single-target damage that the vast majority of players will perform similarly well regardless of the spec they choose. That doesn't appear to be changing much in 5.2 -- if anything, the DPS tweaks being implemented are geared specifically toward keeping them close.
If you're a highly competitive raider or in a bleeding-edge progression group in which everyone is squeezing DPS from a stone, there will almost inevitably be a "best" spec for a given encounter. "On par" is irrelevant in that scenario; you're either playing the best spec for that fight or you aren't (depending on variables such as fight strategy).
The extent to which one spec is "close enough" to another in terms of DPS potential is entirely subjective, and as likely as anything to be based on what type of end-game PvE a person playing a rogue is involved in.
Absolutely ridiculous. They have effectively pigeonholed us back into assassination for another tier. I play assassination atm and I was really excited to go Sub once my gear had gotten better "lolnope" -Ghostcrawler
Well now that our class has been buffed up to a reasonable level compared to other DPS classes for one single spec only, I am off to sleep, hopefully this gets resolved by raid night, cause I'll be upset if I have to play Assassination for another 4-6 months
Is that a straight 10% damage buff to assa as I fear or 10% to Mutilate/Dispatch/Meleeattacks, because I dont think we need anything close to that, as Assa was already topping dps on most PTR bosses that were not multitarget
- Might of the Frozen Wastes includes melee damage by 20%, up from 15%.
- Icy Talons increases attack speed by 30%, up from 25%.
- Threat of Thassarian now increases Frost Strike damage by 50%, up from 40%.
- Assassin's Resolve now increases damage by 30%, up from 20%.
- Shadow Word: Pain damage increased by 25%.
I had a feeling they might un-nerf those buffs...if that makes any sense
I just tightened up my Unholy performance a bit last night in LFR's in anticipation of 5.2...now they're going to buff Frost at the last minute to make me re-think my decision! At least I don't have to reforge/gem to swap between 2HF and UH.
EDIT: He posted updated numbers on trinket RPPMs and how it is affected by Haste

RealPPM Functionality Changes
We changed RealPPM to use your true melee haste or spell haste (whichever is higher) to scale the proc rate instead of attack speed or casting speed. The difference is that things that buff your attack speed (such as the raid buff or Slice and Dice) do not increase the frequency of RPPM procs. True haste boosts, such as Bloodlust or haste rating on gear will improve proc rate. We felt this change was necessary to balance proc rates among different specs.
I wasn't fully avoidance according to your definition since I had two stamina trinkets in (never got drops) and had capped hit/exp. This worked very well for 10 man normals as the lower total damage helped us 2 heal fights more often and the occasional spikes in 10 man aren't all that dangerous. We only had time for a few heroic attempts this tier but it did work well on Stone Guards and Feng (our 2 kills) and was surprisingly good on Gara'jal (a few attempts last night) since the Shadowy Attack can be dodged/parried. Obviously I ended up using Shield Block on Gara'jal instead of barrier since the Shadowy Attack can't be absorbed but there was nice synergy there considering the point of that mechanic is to take as little damage as possible to avoid voodoo dolls dying.
Unsure if this is a widespread issue, or if it's related to the heavy server load slow-down, but it is no longer displaying my DPS (gains, loss or graph). If I click "Auto Reforge" it says "parsererror" in the upper right.
Edit: Disregard. It appears to be going through now.
