Not displaying a visible map

Tidied up a bit recently. I found that I could fix a lot of long-time problems with my interface by not displaying my minimap - however the fading feature on SexyMap appears to be slightly buggy, in that when you tell it to fade to transparent, it only fades out the actual "map" and the UI around it, while leaving the dots of things you're tracking still visible (until you mouseover).

This is amazing!

There's almost no circumstance where I care about anything other than where and what tracked dots are, the background map doesn't actually matter. And when I really care about the map I'll use a fullscreen overlay centred on myself anyway (again with just the dots, no actual map textures), for instance when I'm mining.

I just hit 80 on my Shadown Priest and have read a lot in this thread. One thing I noticed is that it says not to use SWP until several debuffs are on the boss. This supposes that SWP uses the debuffs that are active when it is cast rather then the debuffs that are active when it ticks. Are we sure it doesn't do the latter?

The biggest mistake you made is to test on a dummy. Please use either the sims or provide some real-raid test instead.

Second point is, 3 points in Blood Caked Blade is better put in Subversion, given that you are using as much OB, BS as possible. It's what I found out in the sims. Since you're using 2x Slow each point in BCB gives a little bit over 0.8% dps per point, while 1 point in Subversion gives a bit over 1% dps per point (this is a special talent that favors fast weapons). The sims will show this clearly, and even though the difference in dps won't be that big, Subversion will win out because of its utility (-25% threat will help you a lot in practice).

Since this is all about dps theory crafting and such I was wanting to ask if someone had ever conducted tests threat-wise/Mana wise.

Without the use of Soulshatter which build builds threat faster?
Without the use of Life Tap which Spec is more mana efficient before having to life tap?

I ask these questions because it can help in hardmodes such as general vezzax.

I always wondered if there was a certain build that could last longer without mana regen even if it's just a few thousand while mainting dps.

Please give me some tips or insight with personal experiences or testing?

Maybe we should test these factors besides dps because some fights require a differnet strategy.

so is there something im missing here? i have 22 dodge 20 parry 542 def 25k armro 23k hp. im frost atm. i burn the cool downs at the right times and yet i still seem to take a shit ton of dmg healer is pretty damn good, but why am i taking so much dmg :-/

As unlikely as it is for this to happen, perhaps Blizz can make specialized servers where there is 100% Horde/Alliance interaction, where PvP is restricted to Arena and Battlegrounds. I have no idea how it would work exactly, but then again, the same goes with faction changes themselves. This method would prevent the need to switch factions, because you would be able to raid, quest, PvP, or do whatever with members of the opposite faction. This would prevent people from having to lose rep, vanity items, etc. while at the same time being able to interact with freinds who are of the opposite faction. The main problem I could forsee with this is obviously that you would end up most likely leaving friends behind on previous servers, but not all plans are flawless I suppose.

I generall dont have TOO terribly much trouble with almost all PvE gear, all I have is a PvP neck piece, and i still can do some serious damage, as long as i have at least a little bit of room to cast. Also, i generall dont have problems with healing classes other than priests. That penance is a bitch, and a lot of the time my CS is down, so i cant do anything about it. Other than that (and OP ret pallies), i generally can do fairly well in BGs, and usually come 1st place in HKs, KBs, and damage done.

Big thanks for info. Since i payed 400g to regem I will test this setup anyway
Anyway with 5 stacks of sunden armor on boss it gives 62%+ armor reduction which is quite a lot...

The disadvantages of SBV in current 3.1 Ulduar tanking has thoroughly been gone through in some older posts in the 3.0 Prot Pala thread. You can find all the numbers there; it is hardly anything that the tanks on EJ have decided not to dig in to.

However, come 3.2 and the buff to SBV it once again might become a viable alternative tanking stat.
If you are interested in reading about 3.2 SBV you can read the first page in this thread, I recall a few posts on the subject there.

Not being an ass, but it comes from people who have actually done hard modes. Or with full ulduar experience.

Nearly all sbv gear in ulduar has block rating on it, which is a stat with a net effect of.. nothing, considering you can press your holy shield button in time.
When bosses do normal hits of 25k+, sbv devalues and avoidance inflates.

first off sry for my bad english


well i think the main problem with the mana regen in WotlK is the same as in TBC. on low tier raid instances the dmg the MT take is realy low compared to later. you could heal the tank realy easy and there are no real probloems. nnow in the next raiding tier the tank have more equip and some awsome avoidance. the only way to solve the problem that it should be challenging ist to let the boss to hit harder.
And ich think personaly exactly now is the difference between WotlK and TBC becouse of the abilytis of the bosses. aloste every heavy healing fight in ulduar alredy got a "i kill your tank without CD style". so they cant let the bosses hit hardy becouse it would be an instant death without a chance of survive it. so blizzard just cant make the upcomming bosses just more challenging becouse he hits for more. so the only way to improve the challange is over manaregneration.

almoste all paladins say we need to spamm HL becouse the tanks need it.. well yes your right.. so you cant keep up the tank so you need DP rotations.. maybe healers switching to the tank in some moments and so on.


i think bliizard doesnt want us to be tank only healer anymore.. i personaly think they want: 1disziplin prist on the tank and 1-2 holy paladins with beacon on the tank but 100% rnd healing.. maybe 1 druidid rolling hots on the tank. that would be 2 support healers, 1 rolling hots on him for steady healing and massiv amounts of shields on him. ithink this is the way it is going.. maybe im right maybe not but is see it that way...

Can someone check my gemming? Im right now at 39% passive arp would u gem for more ARP? or full STR? can someone give me some advise !

Btw i have noticed that the t8 gear is somehow worse than the non set piece like some nax 25 items??!????

Is the 4 set boni of the t8 any worth it i would loose at lot of AP !

A few minutes of effort with the spreadsheet and you can provide all of these answers for yourself. Swap in gems or "inferior" T8 gear. If your DPS goes up, it's better. If it goes down, it's worse. Good luck.
