All you need to do is cast FoL on the SS'd target to proc a HoT. The only thing a crit does for you in relation to the HoT is increase the power of each tick due to the increased healing of that particular FoL, up until another FoL lands in which case the HoT is recalculated. This ability does not work like an Ignite where you can create rolling damage (or heals in this case) to increase the effect by proccing it more than once while the buff is still active. If it did, that would make it way too powerful, considering by the time your first HoT timer ran out, you would basically be rolling a 5500HP+ HoT on the target, just by spamming FoL for those 12 seconds (assuming ~1.1s FoL cast time and 500pt avg HoT ticks).

woops my bad, somehow i always had the impression that it only triggers from FoL crit =.=, sorry for the confusion that i've caused.

How is Tier 9 aff lock set better than Tier 8???
Well got the new rawr (equipment analizer), and according to it's calculations, I will do far less dps with the new tier 9 set than my current tier 8! I double checked it by theorycraft as best as i could as well and again came to the same conclusion which is our new tier 9 set is weaker than our tier 8 (at least for aff locks). Other classes are ranting and raving about their sets and the bonuses that go with them, and we got something that is going to drop our dps? Why did blizz do this?
I mean our new 2 set bonus: increasing our pets crit strike chance by only 10%?! Our pets do hardly any dps anyway, why increase that?! Even if we had a doomguard out, it's still very little dps and would only increase our dps very, VERY marginally to the point where it won't even be noticed. I would love to see the amount that blizz predicts this would affect our dps in any noticeable way?
Our 4 set bonus (for us aff locks): increasing our damage from corr and UA by 10%. Well our old set increased UA by 20%, and it only took 2 pieces from our set to get that!!! Now it's split up into 2 spells, meaning it's less worthwhile as we need to have both up on targets to get the same we did from our old tier 8 set, and again it takes 4 out of our set just to get this! I know corr does more damage than UA, but again I don't believe this would be too much of a dps jump at all.
Comparing our tier 8 set bonuses to our tier 9 alone shows a huge drop in what they offered us. I mean losing a 5% increase in crit for our SB which as aff contributes to about 30% of our dmg, and instead getting a 10% increased crit for our pet who contributes at best 5% of our damage? Then losing 20% damage of UA to get 10% split into 2 spells, making it take longer to get them up on the target?! Where was their reasoning here?!
So, it seems pretty apparent that the set bonus isn't any better. As far as the stats themselves, we're looking at for the most part only a very slight increase in spellpower and an increase in crit, which is a very weak stat for aff locks. Last I saw destro locks certainly weren't at any disadvantage at all compared to aff, so not sure why they helped them at the aff locks expense? Did they just not calculate all of this right?
I just need to know why this was done? Why is our set bonuses less than what they had been? Why is our dps going to drop with the new tier 9 set? Most people already choose destro over aff in raids, and now they're going to bring that number up even more with the increased crit chance that would benefit them far more than us from most of the set. If someone could please explain to me why this was done to us I'd love to know???

This may have been mentioned but I literally just got home from vacation and wasn't prepared for 3.2 to hit this week. I'm a JC and wondering if it's worth it to gem for socket bonuses (SP +7/9 for example) now that prismatics are no longer prismatics?.. or is it still worth it to ignore socket bonuses and gem purely INT?

Meta Gem
So I been using the +21 crit rating, +3 CSD (chaotic skyflare diamond) forever now and just began to question continued use of it. The 25 spellpower, 2% intel (ember skyflare diamond) seems pretty good for an arcane mage. 25 spellpower outweighs 21 crit rating (especially for an arcane mage), and 2% intel gives more crit % and spellpower with arcane talents. ALSO the ember skyflare diamond works with 3 red gems, so this allows one to drop purified dreadstones (spellpower/spirit) gems and add more runed cardinal rubies (you gain 22 more spellpower!). So does the 3% critical strike damage bonus outweigh the benefits of the ember skyflare? I would love to see some math done on this or if there is, send me a link! Thanks!

I agree that +spell power outweights +crit. That is hands down for arcane.
However, the second part is what makes CSD superior, not only because +3% crit dmg stacks with talents (+50% dmg) and AM glyph, but also, in order to make +2% int outweight the sustained dmg requires far more int than we can gather (some math made at the general mage thread indicated +4000 int)

Agreed. HS is ok before 20%.....but it simply works off an auto attack...whereas spamming execute gives you an instant attack..And if you're geared enough to do enough damage....well then you can spam to your heart's content.

Okay.. couple of questions here.
1) EPs.. im confused and it looks like theory crafting is out of date? Im gonna be honest and just say it - im lost after running numerous sims. cant get a consistent feel.
2) gemming priorities. right now im AP > haste >anything else and specifically gemming for AP and stacking haste.
3) is there a haste cap/is there a way to know if you are gemming too much haste. is there a goal at which there is negative returns?
4) crit. my crit is just over 30%, can go under a tad with cloak i switch out of tank and spank fights. how important is crit? Should I be stacking more crit until about 32% or so?
thanks in advance.

new MM hunter
Guys.....I am very sorry if I sound like I do not know much about hunter spec....I do...just confused on some aspects of raiding (new to me )
I am new to raiding and I do not undestand the following: or i am looking for help
1. I dont undestand the rotation on MM build I am currently 7/57/7
2. The rotation calls for Serpent, Silence, Rapid, Chimera, Kill, Aimed, Berserker, readiness, steady
3. Is the above rotation correct? does it make sense?
4. if the rotation is correct how do I implemented into a boss fight? macros? do I have to wait for the last tick on any particular shot?
I need all the help that you are willing to offer me....
Thank you in advance ...........................
I was looking at Zeel post and his macros.....................are they correct?
how do you use those macros in a boss fight/
which build is better since I do not have top gear yet....mostly my gear is from 10 man naxx.
I am very new to raiding...so anything on how to start to what do to in the middle until the boss dies to keep and max my dps will help
including macros or rotation
thank so you much guys

Ok so now ive socketed a bit of Armorpen. With the new Trinket i come around 440. Which is fine by me. Now unfortunatly last night this dropped for me in the new 10-man instance.
Item: Girdle of the Impaler :: World of Warcraft :: Allakhazam.com
If i would use it my expertise would drop from 21 to 16. Furthermore i lose a lot of crit. Positive thing is I get a bit of hast and a lot of Armorpen, which means I can socket 3x 20 Strength again and maybe another one in the new girdle. I know it sais that expertise is never as worthy as strenght. But I am a little bit afraight. So does one of you guys really raid with expertise below 20?
Did it worked out for you? Or are there too many dodges?
Moreover i couldnt find if expertise acts like hit. I mean before you are hit capped hit is > strength. Does this apply for expertise either?

Honestly, the only thing I think exp is good for is just keeping your rotation in a nice and neat order (but even this goes out the window in high movement fights). Right now I'm rolling with a grand total of 12 exp (had 10 not too long ago) and when I did try to boost my exp through gems up to 21 all I saw was a little smoother rotation with a little dps loss. Sure RNG can be a bitch sometimes but I believe the STR I gain from not gemming exp outweighs the loss of a GCD. And 25 exp reduces dodge by 6.5%? Ok, so that means I have a whopping 3.5% chance of being dodged, so it's never not that many dodges that I think you're scared of seeing. Now it's not like exp is a bad thing, I believe it's still given a decent stat weight (the next best thing after STR and ArP and the hit cap) and I would love more exp gear to drop for me, but if it's not there I wouldn't gem for it.

Considering that 1) ArPen is already easy to cap without gemming, and 2) ArPen doesn't affect your AoE damage which can be quite useful on some fights, it's still arguably better overall to gem for Str.
|
Where can i find a sim?
Also, should i be shooting for 100% ArP with a proc or...?
Currently i have 46.77% ArP unbuffed, 18% of that being gemmed for. With grim toll proc and food buff, i have 99.71% ArP, and easily at 6200 AP in raids.
If i regem everything to Str, i have an extra 641 AP
Also, where does Blood Gorged, and abilities such as Sunder Armor/Faerie Fire play into it
