18/51/2

Hi, Currently running 15/51/5 rupture-less build, I was playing around with the spec a bit to identify which yielded the most DPS. It seems that 18/51/2 came on top of 15/51/5 by about 60 DPS but i haven't seen any other rogues with similar gear spec this (other than for anub). So anyway.. i went and tried it out one night. One thing i did notice is the rotation was definitely more difficult to sustain with 2/5 Relentless Strikes. Is this the reason 15/51/5 is preferred over 18/51/2 even though the spreadsheet reads it as a DPS increase?

Hey guys this is the first time i am posting in EJ, although i am reading all the WL - Forums for years
So i'm sorry if this is the worn position for this question so please move it to the right place

The Question is about Dots does the damage of Dots only goes for the spellpower you got when you cast them or will the dot tick higher if a spellpower trinket procs after the second tick and same goes for haste, if corruption is up (with Quick Decay Glyph) and after some ticks my trinket procs that gives tons of haste will this effect the next ticks of corruption or should i try to stack as much haste as possible before casting corruption to get insane fast ticks ?

i hope everyone understands what i mean and sorry again for noobshit question and thanks for answers

Rogue DPS problems

Hello everyone,

i am a bit new to this Forum, scrolled around for some time and it helped me much, but there are details that i would like to hear from others too.

I run a Mutilate Raiding spec just like on the Pocket guide forum. My problem is that for some time i feel like i don`t do as much DPS as i should with my gear and my spec. I follow every Pocket Guide for Mutilate, but there are things that i am in doubt with.

1st of all my gear: The World of Warcraft Armory (Rikk - Kazzak)

I have 4/5 t8.5 set with 196dps daggers from ToC and ToGC, other items are Ulduar lvl (226-232) or crafted except ring and neck is 245. Trinkets are a shame... Mirror of trooth(x2, one brewfest edition) and Pyrate infuser...

I am much overcapped with HIT (477) but expertise is on 23 (with 5 gems +8exp+8hit).
I realy dont know if i should wait to switch the gems with +20 agility now or wait till i get 5x 245 items... any clues?

My rotation:

If there is a warrior or druid that can put a bleed effect on the Boss i go: Mut, SnD, HfB, Mut (3+), Cold Blood, Envenom (to refresh SnD to max) than 1x-2x Mut (4+) to put Rupture up then i just follow the Pocket Guide tutorial, hold SnD and rupture up and 4+ envenom when i have a chance.

If there is no one that can put a bleed i just start with a Garrot, and the rest is like above.

Some experiences:

Yestorday we were in ToGC. I was testing my starting DPS on Lord Jaraxxus and overall.
From the start till the 1st portal i was doing arround 5.8k dps in average, which i know it is a shame... Some whipes later i saw once or twice that my DPS rised to 6.8k till the 1st portal, where all 3 partner rogues were at every start, some of them were doing even 7.2 (but they have many 245 lvl items).

Ok, maybe some trinkets proced and so on that my dps rised that much, but i still think that with my PvE gear i can do
better.

Some times i even get a report "invalid target" in the middle of the fight and i cant envenom the target... (100% i had insta on MH and deadly on OH)...

In the 3.1 patch (secrets of ulduar) i was following my partner rogue preety close, even over them at some fights (allways mutilate). Now i am at least 1k - 1.5k dps lower...

If i ask some question in short:

- Will it be good to try Combat with my gear?
- Ok if i go Combat with the trinkets that i have is it a good or bad idea? i know that a good thing would be an ArP trinket.
- Should i stay Muti and wait till i get 4/5 T9.25 and see what happends then make a mass change to my gear?
- Change all gems to +20 agility even if i`ll have only 15 exp rating?
- does 15fps affect rotation fight that much that i cant do more DPS?

If you have any tips for me ill be glad to read them. What i want is to be equal or even better then my partners at raiding.

Thank you!

Nope but if you really want to try DW blood give this spec a shot. World of Warcraft Europe -> Info -> Classes -> Death Knight -> Talents

I fixed the UH side and changed you points in rune tap to spell deflection seeing as when you are blood spec you have a significant amount of parry from the amount of Str you get from Vet. of the 3rd war, Abom. Might and Rav. dead(UH).

Give it a shot and let us know how it does.

spellpower for dots is 'locked' into place when you finish the cast. Any buffs you gain or loose after that do not affect the strength of the dot.

debuffs on the mob on the other hand, are dynamic and will affect dot ticks. (a mob gaining CoE will make existing dots / remaining dot ticks hit harder)

The locking effect you can test for yourself also if you are so inclined. Just use a clickable spellpower trinket of some type. Throw a dot on one creature, wait for the first tick, click trinket, throw the same dot on another. Exluding the crits, you will see the difference.

Talent builds and upcoming patch

i was looking at the talent builds and in teh next patch, improved fellhunter talent will now, decrease the cooldown on shadow bite and shadow mastery, will also increase teh fell hunrets damage 15% whith full points, and ruin will now increase the crit damage of the imp by 100% also, im curious if this may affect which pet we should have out as far as felhunter vs succubus,

Just wanted to get some thoughts on my build as I noticed it was said in the beginning that the 44/27 build is experimental and its not been seen on top of the DPS charts but from what I've seen with my setup, it has been. Gear wise, most of my gear sucks (compared to the new tier gear of course, only just recently got my first piece of T8) - WoW Heroes - World of Warcraft PvE character info & ratings. I've never been much for "cookie cutter" builds as I usually don't have luck with them so have been doing my own builds lately. I'm doing a 44/0/27 (The World of Warcraft Armory - 2nd talent tree) build mainly for UB and perma-ghoul. After testing DRW I noticed perma-ghoul does nearly the same DPS as my DRW. Since the ghoul is out permanently, he'll do more total damage than DRW.

For glyphs I use: Glyph of Death Strike, Glyph of the Ghoul, and Glyph of Dark Death. The last I chose over the UB glyph because I found that it actually will do more damage than the extra 40% UB glyph. Say for instance DC deals out 1k damage, UB should do 200 dmg. With the UB glyph it should have done 280 dmg whereas the DD glyph would have caused DC to do 1150 damage then causing UB to do 230 damage giving you 100 more damage per hit overall.

As far as DPS charts go, so far most of the boss fights I've been in with other blood DK's in the group, I'm usually able to top the ones with gear scores around mine (one of them for instance had a GS right over 300 points higher than mine yet I was able to do at least 400 dps more than them, sometimes even higher. They had the normal blood spec with DRW and, like I mentioned above, their GS was right over 300 points higher than mine. I still have the Titansteel Destroyer and they either had the Edge of Ruin or Ironsoul, can't remember off hand.

Basically I guess what I'm just trying to find out is: is what I'm doing only going to work well with my crap gear or will it do just as well as the normal specs with better gear? Will DRW eventually out perform the perma-ghoul with better gear? That is one of my big questions.

As far as rotation goes, I keep it very short and simple as I never have had luck with what seems to be the normal rotations (stuffing some extra HS's and DS's in the end of the rotation). Start off with IT, PS, DS, should be able to hit DC by now, HS, HS then repeat. I'll hit DC almost every time it is up, unless it will drop my RP below 25 for the DS buff. If I'm at 45 RP when it starts over again at IT I'll hit DC then go through the rotation and have 25 RP by DS, then of course after that DS I'll hit DC again.

With that quick rotation, I always have diseases up, always have UB up, and besides the very first run through never have any moment that I'm not using an ability off the GCD. With the very first run through the rotation you'll only get one DC off which means by the time IT comes around you'll have to wait very shortly for the frost rune to come up then its just constant attacks after that.

If its a boss battle I'll usually immediately start off with a macro to use my engineering gloves (haste) and Hysteria at the same time (and currently included in the macro is my HH helmet to do the laugh for extra effect haha). After that I'll use my gloves every minute that its up and once Hysteria is up again I'll try to time it to use them both again.

As far as numbers go, DC is usually in the top 3 so far always above DS. For normal hits DC hits quite a bit harder than DS on the practice dummy with normal hits. DS will out damage DC on crits but they're still pretty close. With UB mixed in DC crits are about the same or slightly better than DS (this is all using the Sigil of the Vengeful Heart for extra DC damage). Overall damage wise, DC always outperforms DS due to getting to use it twice almost every rotation. HS and melee always kind of trade around spots but is always in the top 4 places, where it should be of course.

On boss fights, I've been able to spike as high as 5k dps and have been able to sustain around 4k before. More often than not I can sustain around 3500 dps in 10 man raids, and in 5 man (depending on buffs) I can keep it around 2600 to 2800 dps.

Sorry for the long post, just wanted to post my experience with my particular build and maybe get some ideas. Thanks all!

Hello, I'm looking for help/suggestions on why I'm not doing the DPS I think I should be doing. With my gear as is I think should be doing respectable DPS but I'm finding I'm having a hard time hitting 3.5k in boss fights. Based on what I'm seeing from other people around the web I think I should be hitting 4k easy, maybe even 4.5k.

My Armory

My usual rotation is:

Charge -> Rend -> MS -> Slam and then mixing in OP when TfB procs or spamming Execute when Sudden Death procs. If neither are up then then I'll spam Slam until TfB or SD proc. I refresh Rend and MS as they fall off, if OP or Execute are not available. If there are other mobs around that need some AoE I'll pop Cleave or Sweeping Strikes.

My guild is 10-man with Ulduar (5 or 6 HM done) and ToC farming. I'm 5 triumph badges from the t9 chest piece so I should have that tomorrow night.

Is my rotation wonky? Are my gems/enchants wrong? I have a lot of +hit (left over from being fury) but it's all in my gear, except for the boot enchant. What am I doing wrong?

thanks!

Greetings,

Part I

I had recently moved and lost internet connection and was unable to play WoW for 3 months so my gear is a bit behind, but no worries, I'm confident I'll be caught up soon. Until the next raid I find myself farming reg ToC for the Abyssal Rune trinket to replace Eye of the Broodmother which apparently with the new content has a higher dps rating according to RAWR. (I find it an absolute shame that a 5m reg trinket is superior to a 10m Uld trinket, but I digress).

After studying the patch notes and reading up on the raid encounters I decided to change my 57/3/11 spec. I got rid of Arcane Barrage and Magic Attunement in preference of Incanter's Absorption. I have found that it performs spectacularly.

Here is what I've been doing and have successfully managed to reach and sometimes surpass my theoretical Rawr dps (when Incanter's is kick'n).

If you're in similar gear to me, maybe these tips can help you.

1. Before the pull, I stack Illustration & Eye of the Broodmother using Arcane Explosion while cycling my struddles to keep my mana topped off right before the pull.

1.5... Universal Technique: PoM AB and spam it.... use MBAR at 3 or 4 AB stacks if available.

2. I just started playing again so have only been fortunate enough to go 2pc T8 + 2pc T9. With my trinkets fully buffed I'll fish for Praxis before using my IWIN macro.

3. Instead of Arcane Barrage, I will fire a single Arcane Missile to dump the Arcane Blast debuff if necessary, I will clip the rest of the cast by quickly recasting AB.

4. By the time Bloodlust is popped, my CDs are usually available again. I hold for the IWIN macro until Praxis procs and this time use my IWIN+Potion of Speed macro.

Incanter's Absorption has been working wonderfully and I highly suggest others who haven't managed 4pc T9 to remember to conserve your IWIN macros for when your procs are available. I have found many mages who seem to randomly blow a huge amount of potential dps by misuse of their cooldowns & procs.

I know other better geared mages out there who might provide other advice, but for those who are currently in my situation these tips should help you reach your full potential.

Would appreciate any feedback for improving this technique or if this post helped anyone.

Part II

I have been looking at this "Fetish of Volatile Power" trinket. I find it amazing that despite being such a high item level that it seems to have a very low dps score. The only way I can think of maximizing its usage is to only pop it right before using a Missile Barrage. I'm a busy person with a job and was hoping someone could maybe possibly do the calculation on this?

I'm sure there's valid reasons for this, but I'm very curious on some of the talents on the 'base' dw tanking build, primarily the choices in the blood tree.

Wouldn't it be preferrable to dump bladed armor and fill out scent for blood and pickup subversion for higher threat from obliterate?

To be specific, I'm talking about something like this versus the normal build.

any thoughts or schooling? :P

I tried searching on any posts in regarding to the above but couldn't really find much relating to subversion in a dw frost build, only being used for some sort of esoteric dw blood build.

thanks!
That might just be on player preference - many people probably want that bladed armour cuz when having about 24-25k armor (frost presence bonus of course) gives you much more of a bonus than a 9% of crit'ing obliterate. Especially becuase the 9% crit affect ONLY OBLITERATE - whereas the ~600-700 attack power effects EVERY damage you do (weapon damage, all strike -including obliterate).

The extra 700 AP is just gonna have a much higher impact on ur threat than the less than 1/10 chance of crit obliterate. Even using deathchill can give you maybe a sure crit on obliterate every 2mins anyways - although i like to use it on huge mobs (howling blast), cuz that just brings me sometimes to the top dps and your aggro just goes through the roof.

This also just might be my view cuz i have spent so much time/money on my dw tank set/spec that im too stubborn to change it?? A question i have though is would spending the money to gimp your expertise up so u become undodge/parryable worth the stam trade-off?

btw heres this if you would like to see the set i have put together - manage to keep about 31k unbuffed hp (with frost presence) and get my expertise to 40 - was only 27 before i traded all my gems for expertise - and keep over 50% avoidance (i have basically constant 136 dodge rating bonus from that sigil from rune strikes...never beeing dodged/parried returns a lot more constant rp to fuel a rune strike almost every 5secs.

Fetish of Volatile Power is a completely horrific trinket, confirmed by Rawr and every other sim out there. Even the heroic version is worse than the ilvl 200 badge one (Sundial).

Why in Thrall's name would they put such a horrific trinket in the game at such a high iLevel? Like, are they planning on buffing it in a future patch perhaps? Better as an abyss crystal from the looks of it or just using it when I'm in a vehicle...

'sigh.

maybe its meant for use with Blizzard aoe meh

When to stop using 4piece tier8?

Hello all

I was just looking for some input on when to break up four piece tier8? Until about a week ago my main spec was Elemental, however as we haven't had a Resto Shaman. My guild has requested that I go Resto and one of our Warlocks go Demo.

Armory: The World of Warcraft Armory

Right now I feel I have a good healing setup. I dont run out of mana and I usually place 2 or 3 on the healing meter (behind the Resto Druid(s). Some of the gear needs to be upgraded badly but I love the amount of haste I have and the cast time of my chain heal. Since I was Elemental, I have the two Elemental pieces which are recommended for Resto. I'm just lacking some badges to purchase two tier9 Resto pieces.

Anyways, back to the main question. When do you feel is the best time to stop using 4piece tier8? I'm guessing after I obtain two piece tier9 Resto... but I was also curious about fights like 25man Heroic Twins where we're non-stop spamming chain heal. Has anyone run any numbers to see if we pump out more HPS using 4piece tier8 over 2piece tier9 Resto/Ele if we are chain heal spamming?

Here is a link to my Armory. It is shown as my Affliction spec, but I raid with 03/13/55 spec. I know it has been written that Life Tap glyph is better than Immolate glyph, is this always the case, what if your Spell Damage is high and your Spirit is low, where is the sweet spot?

The World of Warcraft Armory

Any suggestions would help. This is the best gear I have on hand. Going to pick up the Triumph Shoulders tonight to complet 2pc9 set. Have a ton of other emblems, but do not see an upgrade to purchase besides Triumph gear.

A constant reminder that item level is not a basis for gear upgrades. You have to evaluate the actual stat bonuses given. Rawr is your friend.
Once you have the Abyssal Rune, you will find that it's proc is not only higher sp, but that it also comes more frequently than Praxis.

AM is the better option to break the stack. I'm not sure if clipping it after the first missile is ideal, though, and have never considered that myself. Being somewhat similarly geared, I may have to give this a try .... if I find some free time to play with a target dummy.

Once again, see comments above about item level. Using optimizer and/or "evaluate upgrade" features in Rawr would give you a better idea of the value of a particular piece of gear vs. your current gear.

RAWR Gem Suggestions

Another question - are RAWR's gem suggestions right?

I mean, everything I've read is, once you reach the hit cap, stack spellpower, crit, haste yadda yadda. So I had SP gems all over the place, outside of my two blue gems, but RAWR suggestions the sp/crit ones for yellow, the sp/spirit ones, etc.... and basically get all the gem bonuses.

How accurate is this?

Rawr is CLEAN.
At the moment of this writing, I can guarantee that the code is clean. I just downloaded the version of Rawr 2.2.24 posted on the web site. Your guildy may be right that he was keylogged, but it was NOT from Rawr.

Please tell your guildies to get some security software on their machines. I personally don't care who you choose, but I prefer NIS 2010.

Also, when you find VERY serious issues like this, don't post it here, or some other random place. Post it on the Rawr forums or Issue tracker. That's VERY closely monitored and we can deal with any potential issues right away.
