Take a look at the Shaman: Restoration article in the TTT. It should answer most of your questions.

Already got it, and it says that with my current gear ArP gemmed, I should stay ArP gemmed, I was just looking for a little clarification on whether or not having over 50% ArP w/ a GT or Mjolniir is effective.

Hmm boots enchant question : minor speed or 12hit 12 crit?
There are many encounter in ulduar (especcially hard modes) where running is important.
What do u think?

Didn't see this question in the pages I went through, because Corr. and UA crit now does that make crit more important than haste for an Affliction spec?

Battleground PVP

how about this for a battlegroud pvp spec

Talent Calculator - World of Warcraft (37/34/0)

using cast sequence of IT or CoI, PS, BS, BS, Hysteria, Deathchill, OB.

i think this is good spec as it includes great survivability and large burst damage

If the Algalon helm is 219.37 but is intended to be 239, then it's underbudget by 19.62 ilevels. Sure, we don't know how much a meta socket is worth, but if we look at other helms, we should get a pattern of how underbudget they all are, right?

Conqueror's Scourgestalker Headpiece: actual ilevel 222.79, 3.20 ilevels underbudget
Conqueror's Worldbreaker Faceguard: actual ilevel 220.25, 5.74 ilevels underbudget
Helm of the Furnace Master: actual ilevel 220.22, 5.77 ilevels underbudget
Blue Aspect Helm from Heroic Eye of Eternity: actual ilevel 216.13, 9.86 ilevels underbudget

All of these 4 helms that are intended to be ilevel 226 are all underbudget by 3-9 ilevels, much larger than the 19 of the Algalon helm, which means it's definitely lacking some stats even if we're missing the meta socket value.
Are you trying to suggest these items might be usable and still get the He Feeds on Your Tears achievement if one watches how it is gemmed, or in this case not gemmed?

Elemental Shaman gear question

I have recently acquired some tier 8 for my Ele Shaman, and i'm wondering which is better, the 4 piece tier 7 bonus or the two piece tier 7 and two piece tier 8 from a dps perspective? Any help would be appreciated.

Hi this is all great, useful information but im wondering how old the talent build is that you put up? One of the ones from WoW Insider told me to put 5 points in restoration tree for healing wave even though im goin elemental. Your tree looks alot better but i was wondering when you had created it. I apologize if there was a time stamp but I cant find one. Thanks in advance!

That's about right, because I was DW Unholy for a while...then ulduar came out and I was able to replace that titansteel destroyer i used to have and went back to 2h dps and my dps increase about 300...

This is for builds 0/13/58 DW and 0/10/61 2H because they have almost the exact play style and rotation, plus their spells, diseases, gargoyle, ghoul and AoE capabilities are almost the same (we'll look at those in details later on). The idea is to use 2 of those as representative builds, then compare those builds with other builds using same weapons respectively, to see where we are compared to 2 handers.

Note: The results are calculated based on average. Because of assumptions, the results shown are only approximation.

Comparison between 2H and DW first step: Scourge Strike:

Assumption:
  • Hit capped & Expertise capped.
  • 7000 AP. Quite achievable raid buffed.
  • DW use 2.6spd 178.8 DPS on main hand, 2H use 3.6spd 232.6 DPS (Both iLevel 232).
  • Sigil of Awareness.
  • Crit chance assumed to be 50%. In real life you can attain close to that rate raid buffed.
  • Rotation used: (20s cycle) PS - IT - SS - BS - BS - RP - SS - SS - SS - RP - repeat: 4 SS per 20s.
  • Boss resistance 5%

Formulae used:

This formula is used in courtesy of Orlgin, who did the math in the other thread. I simply recycle this formula seeing as there is no problem with it.
  1. Average_Damage (including crit modifier) = (Weapon_DPS * Speed + Normalized_Speed * AP / 14 + SS_Bonus + Sigil_Bonus) * 0.45 (SS modifier) * 1.2 (Outbreak) * 1.15 (Blood Presence) * 1.396 (Diseases) * 1.1 (Rage of Rivendare) * 1.1 (Black Ice) * 1.05 (Desecration) * 1.02 (Bone Shield) * 1.15 (Crit chance 50%, Vicious Strike) * 1.13 (Ebon Plaguebringer) * 1.5 (50% critical chance) * 1.06 (metagem) *0.95% (resist)

Where: Weapon_DPS = 178.8 for DW, 232.6 for 2H; Normalized_Speed = 2.4 for 1h, 3.3 for 2h; SS_Bonus = 357.188; Sigil Bonus = 189

Results

DW SS Average Damage = 4876
2H SS Average Damage = 6690
Difference = 1814 damages per SS

Because there are 4 SS per 20s rotation therefore:

DPS difference = 1814 * 4 / 20 = 363 dps

Conclusions

2H SS pulls ahead by about 363 DPS.

If DW wants to stay competitive, they have to make up this DPS loss by using their strength in:
  • White damages, Necrosis & BCB
  • Superior scaling with certain stats (any stats which boost white damages like haste)
  • Slightly higher Rune of FC uptime - but not by much due to overwriting effects.
However DW still suffers from other weaknesses:
  • High base miss chance with white damages.
  • Due to spec, DC lose 10% damages (2 points in Morbidity).
  • Loss in PS and BS damages, although they only make up for a small amount of % dps.

I will be looking at those numbers and post more analysis on DW vs. 2H. I think it's fair to analyze white damages next, since it is a large portion of DW dps, which makes DW unique.

If anyone has time please look at these maths closely to see if anything's wrong. I don't expect my math to be 100% correct. I used Excel to plug in the values to ensure the accurate results (better than using a calculator).

I have been browsing this thread for a while now and I've came to my own conclusions about how I'm gearing myself and I thought I had it right. From what I've gathered as fury, you gem Arp, Hit cap is assumed, Crit at about 35% or more and exp cap. However my recent performances in ulduar give me a slight hint I could be wrong, either that or my 'priority' is plagued. Some input would be much appreciated.

The World of Warcraft Armory is my armor for those who wish to delve farther into how I gear.
