Thanks for the quick reply!
I was not aware that EnhSim had issues for lower lvl characters.
I know neither weapon is great - I currently have the Nail and was looking to replace it when I saw the Slice and its rating on the AH and got confused =)

Mutilate vs. Combat
Here's probably the simplest question possible... I recently took a 4 month hiatus from the game, but now that I'm coming back, I'm hearing rumors that combat is the top spec these days. This true? Not looking for anything in depth, I'll do the rest of the research on my own once I have the time. Thanks

This is fully buffed, and seems weird because the upgrade from t7 to t8 was huge, over 300dps unbuffed for me (that's on dummy, i believe it was almost 1k in raids).
Even if 2 months later i have the 258 ilevel 4 set, i ll get probably 300dps increase, and I never run such a perfect raid composition which lowers this increase further.
Is it worth getting?

That's entirely up to you.
Personally, I've chosen to grab the 245ilvl ring, and pass on trophies for the next few weeks, especially dependent on how many tokens we see per boss in the heroic instance. I've managed to grab a nice neck, ranged and offhand dagger though, all of which were nice boosts to my DPS.
The 4pc T8 bonus was most of that 300DPS upgrade (for my gear at the time, the rupture bonus alone was worth 350DPS).
If, for example, Blizzard were to decide "Fuck it, Glyph of Living Bomb is worth 300DPS too, let's just give Glyph of Rupture the same thing so people like our T9 set better, and give 4pc T8 some stupid slightly-less impressive bonus", it could help a great deal with making 4t9 more palatable, provide a boost to Mutilate (and combat) DPS, which is falling behind Fury Warriors and Hunters at the theorycrafted BIS level, and make 4t8 less "essential".
This is almost wishlisting though, so I'm going to stop here before I get an infraction.

when there was a mistake in the calculation of the 51/7/13 Spec, does it mean 51/13/7 is still the better spec now?
And what about combat? I always read about a combat-spec buff with 3.2 but couldn't find anything in the patchnotes.

Sup all
Iam currently using the combat tree 15/51/5 having Greed (MH Fist) and Avool's Sword of Jin (OH Sword) been using it for a while. Yesterday Aledar's Battlestar (MH Mace) dropped from heroic Toc. Is there any mace /sword build that I can use? Is it even worth it equipping the mace with a sword?
Thanks guys

Hey sorry if this was asked on this thread elsewhere, I really don't want to read over 100 pages.
At any point will Potent Ametrine's be better then Reckless Ametrine for FFB or FB specs. I know 1 crit rating is worth .8 spell dmg for FFB, and .7 spell dmg for FB. Truth is i don't know exactly what 1 haste rating is = to spell damage wise. Could someone clerify this please. Thanks.

After searching and scanning the last few pages I don't think this question is a repeat, but forgive me if it is. In light of the new Engineering changes I've been considering swapping professions, along with others I'm sure.
I'm currently LW/Enchant, and would be looking to lose LW for Engineering. I've done some basic math to compare the two using the stat weights given my gear, and it seems like a no-brainer loss. Below are my findings, and I'm really asking for verification/scrutiny on my math.
Assumptions
I'm able to get the full benefit of Icewalker.
Hyperspeed Accelerators are used on CD.
LW Benefit
+80 AP(compared to +50AP wrist enchant) x1.1(HotW) x 1.1(+10% AP raid buff) = 96.8 AP
96.8AP x.61(AP:DPS ratio) = 59.05 DPS
Engineering Benefit/Loss
Gloves
Hyperspeed Accelerators = 340/5(12s duration on 1m CD) = 68 Haste x1.18(Haste:DPS ratio) = 80.24 DPS
-44AP(Crusher) = -32.48 DPS
Net = +47.76 DPS
Cloak
+1 Agi(vs +22 enchant) x 1.51(Agi:DPS ratio)= 1.51 DPS
Boots
+24 Crit(Nitro Boosts) x 1.2(Crit:DPS ratio) = 28.2 DPS
-12 Crit(Icewalker) x1.2 = 14.1 DPS
-12 Hit(Icewalker) x1.29(Hit:DPS ratio) = 15.48 DPS
Net = -1.38 DPS
Grand Total
47.76 + 1.51 - 1.38 = +47.89 DPS Engineering Gain
Net Loss/Gain = 59.05 - 47.89 = 11.16 loss
Of course you can't place a value on the tools/toys you gain with Engineering, which may be enough considering the above to convince me to change. Since I did the work I thought I'd share, but again please correct me on any glaring math errors or faulty assumptions. My calculations were done after subtracting current enchants for the stat weights.

I too have had a hard time figuring out the dps spreadsheet but while reading the forums I have found Zeherah's Hunter DPS Analyzer to be quite user friendly. Check it out and see if that helps

but yes with it comes trouble, the durability problem, and no scope... but in general could it be useful if youre ranged weapon isnt a 200 dps monster... or am i overlooking something... ?

I actually went and purchased a cheap thrown weapon to see how it works for hunters. I equipped the weapon without any bullets, the way i figured it would work similar to rogues and only received an error message "Must have Ranged Weapon Equipped."
If there was some way to get it to work I ran some trials through Shandara's DPS Spreadsheet and here were my results.
[Nerubian Conquerer]w/ [Heartseeker Scope] & [Mammoth Cutters] = 9516.62
[Crimson Star] = 9724.39
Now I tried with and without bullets and received the same error message. So if there is something I am missing and you can get Thrown Weapons to work for a hunter your numbers would be higher. However I wouldn't suggest turning to a thrown weapon as your ranged weapons especially since there are better weapons that you can get.

You have an ability called "Throw" in your spellbook. It's a terrible ability for a hunter. At the moment, mine has a 0.416 sec cast, and a 2.33 sec cooldown. That's why you were getting the errors.

What's the earliest point that a MM Hunter can spec out of imp arcane shot, spec into imp steady shot and then drop arcane shot from the rotation. I was under the impression you'd at least need to be Arp softcapped with a runestone, but just changing those talents and altering the shot rotation it seems I get a slight dps boost even with my current gear/gemming. At least according to Zeherah's Hunter DPS Analyzer
Does that seem about right? Would be kinda nice to drop to an easier rotation that uses less mana if possible.

Total noob question but I was just wondering how viable using 1.4 speed daggers are for mut spec. I currently have Webbed Death and Dirk of the Night Watch. I'm just really sick of using my Wodin's Second Best Shanker
Also, I was wondering ( and I know it's very rare) if one of your 2 mutilates doesn't crit and you're left with 4 CPs, is it best to finish right then, or waste 1/2 more CPs by using another mutilate?
One final thing, I was also wondering if it's commonplace to swap to a slow offhand for KS, then swap back, I always thought that was a good idea but I never hear anything about it.

Depends on the meta you're trying to activate.
For Relentless Earthsiege, just the 10 Stats, and you're set. You can then ignore all socket colors, unless the socket bonus is killer (a net increase to match the color, as happens occassionally with yellow sockets.)
For Chaotic Skyflare, it depends on what stat you're stacking at the time, your second blue gem will be either +10Str/+15Stam, or +10ArP/+15Stam. But there's the answer to your question - it won't be +6 Stats.
In the future, that would be a question to ask the spreadsheet or Rawr.

Wheyyaat: The pocket guide answers most questions regarding the mut rotations, but yes you would use a finisher at 4cp's so as to avoid wasting any.
As for KS, I'll leave that for an experienced combat rogue to answer.
