First off, apologies because this is my first post and I can not create another thread as I had hoped. If this should be moved, please feel free to do so.
Referenced for your pleasure (via Filefront hosting), is yet another Shaman spreadsheet, but this one with a different flavor that others I have seen.
Why did I do this?
Originally, this spreadsheet consisted of only tab 2, “Gear Upgrades.” In my guild, after a piece of loot is linked, I have 5 seconds to decide whether I should roll or not – no exceptions. Therefore, I needed a quick and easy way to know whether or not I wanted something or not. Additionally, I don’t like rolling on gear others could use which are not, or only a minor, upgrade for me. This spreadsheet helped me make those decisions immediately. However, I was having a difficult time balancing my gear with having different slots with both hit and non-hit pieces. I added the other two tabs with an eye towards allowing me to identify which are the “cheapest hit” items I have available. Keep in mind that I do not have easy access to the top notch gear because our raiding progress is on and off.
How do you use this?
a) You can use this, as I do, to filter and sort on “Gear Upgrades” and identify which gear in which raids (from which bosses) are upgrades, so that you have a gear list for each raid.
b) After “Gear Upgrades” is updated with your own gear, you can use the next two tabs (“Item Comparison” & “Recommended Gear”) to evaluate the value of hit on your gear – and decide which items YOU should use to get to the hit cap.
DISCLAIMER: I am sure RAWR or other spreadsheets do this much more elegantly. This is a “beta” version with some known gaps – e.g. I have not coded any logic for trinkets yet – this is a huge gap (but selfishly, Dying Curse, Living Flame, etc. have all eluded me so I have not even bothered – yet.). I am not an Excel wiz, so there are likely many better methods to perform the logic I used – but, I did what I knew how. I have done very little testing on this, so some calcs may still be off and some values may produce boundary errors, etc. Lastly, updating the Gear tab is a very manual (and time-consuming) process, but I do not know a better way of doing this auto-magically.
I am going to pause on development, and see if people find this a useful addition to the other Shaman tools already available. If some people respond and do find this a tool worthy of continuing, I will continue adding features and functionality. I would be eager to hear your thoughts. Thanks.
